Thank you for this tidbit! I did not know this and I will give it a try.
Just looked at my lens and compared it to the lens photographs in the user reviews. I have the SMC Pentax 28mm F3.5.

Since I have a Pentax 28mm that I've not used very much (not even sure which one, and I haven't even listed in my equipment list for the forum) I am interested in this thread. I did a quick "DuckDuckGo" search and found the following opinion in a DPReivew thread ("What is the Best 28mm Lens for Pentax K-Mount - Pentax ME Super") from 2011:
"SMC K 28 f 2 is the best for bokeh and everything.
smc M and A 28 f 2 not so fine, bokeh is pretty terrible in fact.
SMC K 28 f 2.8 is very good.
SMC K 28 f 3.5 very good sharpness but show strong vigneting
smc M f 2.8 - two versions, first very good, second good.
smc M 28 f 3.5 OK
smc A 28 f 2.8 so-so good
smc F 28 f 2.8 good but not mutch
smc FA 28 f 2.8 better then F but not very good, and rectangular lens hood is recomanded, not just for flare resistance, but for contrast too.
Pentax 28 is in fact 29 mm
SMC K 30 f 2.8 is very-very good, but warmer/yellower in rendering.
FA 31 f 1.8 LIMITED show fantastic gradation rendering, but at f 1.8 is too creamy for my taste on full frame 35.
Is very good for APS-C...."

I was tempted earlier this morning to be "impish" with that lens . . . but since I've never shot with it I decided against it. The 31mm is on my wish list, but pricey, and it's not rentable from lensrentals.com to try it that way.

We had lovely weather during the eclipse, which was 80% totality. I took advantage of the slightly cooler temperatures and mowed the lawn for the first time this year.
My favorite part of solar eclipses isn't the sun; it's the crescent shapes on the ground caused by the pinhole effect of the light shining between leaves. I photographed those a lot during the partial eclipse in 2017, and first experienced them during the annular eclipse in Indianapolis in 1994. I'm not sure I even remember my first solar eclipse in 1970 at the age of ten, but I'm sure at the time I was aware of it because I was very much into the lunar missions from 1968 onward.

Guess I need to give up on my hopes for an 8x10 Deardorf scaled down to the size of a Minox. The Age of Miniaturization must be over . . .

Maybe we'll be able to buy from Ricoh a $19 polishing cloth for the wood, too.

Sorry I didn't catch the distinction between black and jet black, plus I could not figure out why the thread kept going on when it had already been pointed out that it was a limited edition. I was trying to re-emphasis the "limited," which seemed to have been overlooked. I was also thinking the jet black version was still available since there is still a live webpage for it.
Mea culpa.

^ My vote is with this. ^
From Ricoh's webpage for this camera: "The K-3 Mark III JET BLACK Edition is a limited-edition, special design model that has all the features and specs of the standard K-3 Mark III in a sleek all-black finish."
The limited edition has reached its limit.

Another leaf shutter option is the SMC 67 LS 165mm f/4 along with the 6x7 (lens) to 645 (camera) adapter. I used this combination with the 645D, but not for portraits.

I do believe the original may be a tintype, but the item shown in the OP's first post does not look like a tintype in any way. If the original is a tintype, then I still believe the item shared by the OP is a copy photograph made around the same time as the original tintype. The surface scratches appear to be on paper, not japanned steel; the upper right corner looks like a typical card mount photograph; and the tonality of the image all say photographic print. I reserve the right to be wrong, but I do not think that I am. If Morgan did go on to other forms of photography than tintypes, then he may well be the person who made the copy (or more likely multiple copies).

The bottom edge looks to be curved, so yes, something had to be added to block off that portion of the frame.

I love the concept of this camera, especially the vertical orientation, vis-a-vis its target market. I hope it is a huge hit.
That said, even if this camera came out in pre-digital film age I would not have been in Pentax's target market . . . even though I was "young" back then . . . because I mostly lived and breathed the 4x5 and 120 formats. As my photography advances, my 35mm shooting became more recreational than creative. Translating that back to today, it's the same reason I am not interested in Micro FourthThirds. It's not that that format is bad, just not my cup of tea.

This is what I do, plus I consult the histograms (I prefer seeing RGB histograms, not the composite) . . with the caveat UncleVanya noted in that they are also derived from a JPEG and not my raw file.

A general guideline to remember when shooting digital is that it is more like shooting color slide film than black-and-white negative film, in that you need to expose for your highlights (i.e, do not overexpose them). An aspect of the Zone System that people tend to forget is that you expose for the shadow and develop for the highlight. In the Zone System, highlight metering determines the degree of adjustment you make to your normal film development time (N-2, N-1, Normal, N+1, N+2) not your exposure settings. To do this, you use a spot meter to isolate the highlight and shadow readings, not a wide-area averaging meter reading.

At work I use the ViewSonic VP2785-4K, a 27" 100% Adobe RGB monitor. They make a VP2756-2K monitor, which can be had for around $300 and covers 100% sRGB. They have a variety of other ColorPro monitors, too, one of which may meet your needs.

I'm by no means an expert, but I think so long as you work only in the sRGB color space (i.,e., I'm assuming you mean you only shoot JPEGs), then an sRGB monitor would suffice. Difficulties and challenges arise, however, when one photographs using the PEF or DNG file format and then wants to print their much larger gamut using the Adobe RGB color space, but views the files on an sRGB monitor that cannot accurately display the wider color gamut—or conversely, needs to reduce the wider color gamut captured in a raw file into the smaller color space of sRGB regardless of the monitor used to view them. Both of these scenarios enter into the realm of color rendering intent settings, which is probably beyond the scope of your questions.

I've been digging into this topic myself lately, but from a Mac perspective where I'm reckoning between Apple's use of the P3 colorspace versus Adobe RGB. (DCI-P3 is better suited for video.)
For your use case ("something to work on a few images, largely for making prints for my own use . . . [and] the occasional photo book") I'd say you would struggle a lot less (and likely use a lot less paper and ink in the process) with a high coverage Adobe RGB monitor than a simple monitor using 100% sRGB color space, but do not need 100% Adobe RGB coverage. (I've seen monitor specs ranging from 89% to 100%.) Seeing on screen an image that looks closer to what's wanted when printing it is, to me, a worthwhile cost. If your usage rate were to be more than a few images, then I'd edge more toward 100 than 89 percent.

Or maybe the users of full frame cameras do not post their photographs on Flickr because they operate in different photographic spheres. I, too, am one of those full frame (and medium format, too) users who do not (and never have) use Flickr.

I'm afraid I would not buy a K-1 III with the now-three-year-old technology from the K-3 III. Apologies for disagreeing, but I do not think that is a reasonable product in the face of the completion. By comparison, nor would I buy a computer with three-year old technology in a new desktop casing or laptop body. I would consider buying a K-1 III with current technology to replace my K-1 II if the new advancements benefit the way I photograph or improve the results I currently obtain. ---------- Post added 01-31-24 at 11:47 AM ----------
I vaguely recall that, but to me that only makes sense if the K-1 III had been issued on the heels of the K-3 III release. Essentially three years have passed, and now they need to showcase even better features and technology.
