Pentax K-1 wiping the floor with Nikon D810, D850.

In Australia the D850 will be about 2x the price of a K-1, which is utterly ridiculous. I am trying to sell a couple of D800E's (I'll keep my D810) but I can't budge them at A$2,000. In the DPR dynamic range images I felt that at the same ISO and EV vales the Pentax killed the D850, especially in pixelshift mode.

I'm looking to simplify my gear and have been thinking about getting a K-1, but I can't help thinking they'll release another model within the next year.

A few from my trusty K-5 and FA31mm:
This is not a time exposure. The clouds really did look like that.

That's the sun on the right. I await the ridiculous comments about how I should've been able to compensate.

The D850 is almost $5,500 here in Australia (they can forget that), and, based on the performance of the KP, I'm still wondering if Pentax has something up their sleeve. I still have a K5 & K01 and a core of primes.. ;-)

But right now I'm broke and need to move on.

My financial position has changed in the last couple of years and so I have to greatly reduce my gear. Thanks for the advice.

Based on the great results from the KP I suspect that another FF model will be released soon. This will probably be a 54MP model based on the same tech as the 24MP sensor in the KP.

I'm keeping an eye on all of this as I want to sell off most/all of my Nikon gear.

I've just spent 6 months selling off my deceased mother's estate (and moving house) so I've missed an awful lot of everything. And I'm about to sell off a lot of my Nikon cameras and lenses (I still cling to my K-5 and FA lenses though). I'd almost kill for a K-1, but I feel I must have a 645 if I am to go further with my craft - or at least entertain myself some more.

All of the lenses I thought I needed before I now realise that I don't.

Sorry, I shut down the page due to the exhibition being a dismal failure financially. You can see the works here.

I have a soft spot for Port as I played many gigs there over the years and they were very good to me, apart from a few drunken and idiotic players.

On the other hand, I hate Collingwood. ;-)

Anyone tried the DA* 200 f2.8 on K-1 ?

The DA*200 f2.8 is an update of the FA* 200 F/2.8 (it's a full frame lens, despite the name). I still have mine, but I concur with Sandy, there's just too much longitudinal aberration.

When I was a kid living in Melbourne it was Carlton, but I've been a South Aussie for a lifetime, so it's Sturt (Double Blues) and The Crows these days.

Well the exhibition was a financial failure even though I got positive feedback. Here is a link (I have been given permission to post this) to the gallery.

Thanks to all of you for your best wishes.

I'm not sure if I can post further links as I have just heard that Facebook links are against the rules. But the moderators have kindly let me off this time and allowed the link to stay. If you want to follow the show then it's probably best to follow the links above - I suppose now would've been a good time to have a personal website.

Once again, thanks guys.

I've got a D810 and two D800E and yet I still love my K-5. I'm not at all interested in a K-3 though, and would gladly swap a D800E for a K-1.

K-1 with FA31mm or Sigma A 35mm

Agreed. I own both lenses and the FA31 has microcontrast to die for and a much better BOKEH than the Sigma 35. The Sigma reduces specular highlights to circles and the bokeh can be very nervous. I use the Sigma on my D810 though and it is a stellar performer, resolution wise.

OTOH the Sigma 50/1.4 'art' has a little too much purple fringing for my tastes, considering it's a modern lens design.

Aerobright is a nano coating, like the Nikon variant, and, as far as I know, it's nothing like HD.
