What PP program should I use?

I have used a wide range of processing programs over the past few years and no matter which one you use, there will always be another program that has another feature that you need. The final conclusion is that you will usually need to have more than one program to cover all the things you might need (or want) to do with your images. And sometimes you will just want to have fun with your images. With that in mind I highly recommend you check out Smart Photo Editor. This is a really fun program that is extremely powerful, yet easy to use. It only works with JPG or Tiff files, so no RAW feature (at least for now). It takes a while to learn all the ways you can use it, but it is fun to explore the numerous options. Another great thing about it is that it is community based, so new filters are always being added. t's not free, but it costs less than $40. Compared to everything else I have used, this is the best program for the cost. Just Google Smart Photo Editor and check it out.

K50 Sensor Mount Issue/Problem?

OK, now not sure what the original problem was. I reset the K50 and started over and now it seems to be working correctly. Maybe a firmware blimp when I did the firmware upgrade and it self corrected after I reset the defaults and started over. Thanks for all the responses. Here are two photos. One from the KX and one from the K50. Both photos taken with the 18-55 kit lens that came with the camera, both on full auto, and from the same location at the 18mm lens setting.

Now I feel stupid. I never noticed the sensor movement in my previous cameras, so didn't even consider checking my older Pentax to see if it did the same thing. So my next step will be to take a sample photo with the K50 and another one with the Kx and post both for you guys to check and let me know if you think thee is a problem with the K50 or if I am doing something wrong. Will take and post the photos tomorrow. Thanks

K50 Sensor Mount Issue/Problem?

I recently purchased a new K50 to replace my Kx. My first impression on the feel and look of the camera were positive, but once I took the first few test shots I felt there was something wrong. The photos were not as sharp and clear as those on my Kx and had a high amount of fringe and blue color shift, even if I used the same lens and settings. I then noticed that the K50 had an indication that something is moving inside the camera when you turn it from vertical to horizontal and back. You can actually hear and feel that something shifted inside the camera. My belief is that this is related to the sensor mounting and or the SR function. This movement occurs both when the camera is on or off, with or without a lens attached. Has anyone else noticed this with their K50? Sounds like a defect to me and a reason for a warranty replacement.

K10d and the pernennial FLASH question...

The 280T was one of the first Pentax flash made to use the TTL flash control and only worked with the cameras that had the internal TTL sensor (like the Super Program with OTF -Off-the Film flash control). It's a pretty good medium power flash unit. It has TTL, 2 auto ranges, full manual setting, as well as a reduced power setting.

I have both the 280T and the 400T as well as 3 of the older vivitar 285s. I know the 285s I have a trigger voltage of over 100 so I only use these now as remote fill flash. I have heard that the 280T and the 400T are border line safe to use, so I have not tried them on my K100D Super yet. The 400T model I have is the handle Pro flash and not the hot shoe version. The only way I have used the 280 or 400 with my camera so far is with a Wien safe flash adapter. It protects the camera from high voltage but it eliminates any dedicated features, so I have been setting everything manually. It would be great if I could use these two flashes with in the dedicated mode and make using them a little easier/faster.

SMC M lens + K100D = no aperature control?

Yes, you can use the M lens for fast subjects if you are going to pre-focus and already set the lens for the right lighting, but then you can also use the AF lens and turn the AF off and focus yourself and still have the use of the auto metering, which would be faster in most cases than doing everything on your own. Just a matter of what works best for what you are doing at the time.

Using M series lenses has worked fine for me with the 100 Super, once you have the camera set up for the M lens. I also agree with some of the earlier comments that actually having to make the settings will make you feel more involved with the picture taking process. Obviously an M series lens is not your first choice for fast moving subjects.
