Hi guys, I might have missed where it has already been discussed but I understand the image needs to be uploaded to the theta site to produce the panning images as seen in the shots above. Does this then give you a url to embed into a website as you have done? I would LOVE this for my website. Cheers Mike

Bottlenose Dolphins frequently visit my home on the East Coast of Tasmania, an Island state at the southern tip of Australia. I took this photo with my trusty K7.

I didn't do much post processing with this photo. I tweaked the colour saturation a little but that was it. It may come up even nicer using more professional software.

Hope you like it!

Pentax K3 vs Nikon d7100

well i can tell you that the SD Slot cover and battery cover of the d7100 are not rubber sealed. The two biggest compartment covers on the camera would easily leak water. It's goind to take cracking photos, dont get me wrong. Pentax have a niche in the durability of their cameras tho. That much is certain.

I didnt have a look at a d7000. For sure it isnt a metal body camera, but the plastic feels cheap and week. I like to trek with my k7 swinging around my neck. I wouldnt do that with this camera. It will do the job i need for sure. Just wished I had bought a K3 when i was thinking about it a month ago.

Pentax K3 vs Nikon d7100

So i recently posted about using the dual SD card slots for backing up photos from card to card. I was very keen to use this function within my business and needed to get a hold of a k3 last week. The prices had since gone through the roof as the AUS dollar has dropped. I decided to would bite the bullet and buy a Nikon d7100 for the same purpose. On spec, very similar cameras.

I only own a pentax k7, but have trapped off constantly since buying that camera 4 years ago that Pentax has the best camera build quality of any camera dslr.

So what was my reaction when I unboxed the d7100. It felt like a plastic piece of shite compared with my K7. Even the plastic feels weak. It is NOT weather sealed, even though I am sure they state it is (I may be corrected). I hear people say that they will not buy a Pentax K3 because the autofocus is not as good as Canon or Nikon equivalents. Well, after seeing the build quality of an equivalent Nikon, I wouldn't care about such diffences in performance. The durability and quality of the camera body gets my vote now in a big way. I will be keeping the Nikon for work and will be buying a K3 for myself.

Awesome guys, thanks for the heads up. Jup, that is exactly what I want to do, Take a bunch of photos and copy them across to another SD card in the camera. Saves doing this with a laptop I guess. K3 on the way for me :)

The K50 doesn't have dual cards does it?

ah ok ... so what I want to do is this. Have an SD with stock photos in the camera slot2. take a photo saved to slot1. Copy that photo to card2. Take that card out give to a customer and put in another SD card with stock photos. Do the same with maybe 10 SD cards

Guessing its not possible?

Do we REALLY need a mag alloy body?

I definitely wouldn't bother if it only saved $20 or $30 bucks, but if it saved $200 or $300, then I would think about it for sure

plastic doesn't need to look cheap. Agree the alloy body is amazing and its why I choose to stay with Pentax. What would the price difference be if they dropped the alloy from the K3? Would it be insignificant?

Interesting concept coming from me because I chose my k7 to use like a sledge hammer in the field.

The awesome deal on the k50 made me think, how much fat could be shave off the k3 if it did not have a mag alloy body? I am guessing it would be much cheaper and lighter. Is weather sealing better with the mag alloy body? If it only gives it extra strength to the chassis then I would be willing to conceed this in favour of a lighter and more affordable camera.

I am glad people share common thoughts with this. It feels to me when someone describes a camera as "enthusiast", that it cheapens the camera

finally a thread where I agree with all of the comments.

Ricoh have a BIG job ahead of them re-establishing the Pentax brand into the dSLR market. They are continuing to refine products to fit a niche, products that the Pentax brand can become known for. It makes sense to put capitol into this r&d and marketing, rather than blow your budget on competing with the big sellers.

The question is, when Sony is one of the biggest corporations in the world, why do they not swallow everyone up and take over the dSLR market? there is probably more money to be made selling $100 point and shoot cameras than dSLRs.

I couldn't agree more with your comments. For sure there are arms of the professional industry that are better supported by Canon and Nikon. Probably sponsored too. It erks me to go into a camera shop and see them categorized as consumer, sem-pro and pro. Even if they only sell Canon or Nikon.

I do a lot of outdoor photography. I actually own a cruise company where I take photos for our marketing, so my camera is out on the water a lot too. I did a 4 day hike the other month and had the K7 around my neck the whole time (clipped into my pack straps actually). I did this because I wanted to fire off photos quickly, not having to stop and unpack the camera. The Pentax was belted from left to right as I busted through thick bush, scaled down cliffs, & trekked through canyons. It was covered in mud & covered in scratches. The camera never failed. The weather sealing held up as I washed the mud off the camera in creeks. No moisture, condensation, dents or cracks. I kept thinking to myself, "now do I really want that Canon MkIII?". I was seriously thinking about it before I did that walk. I could afford buy one, but can I afford to treat it like I did the K7?

I see the Pentax brand slowly finding its feet. It's is not in a megapixel race. I am actually surprised that the Pentax brand has not been swallowed up in the industry. Maybe Ricoh got to it just in time. In my mind, the K7, K5 & K3 are examples of the company finding a style and build that fits the Pentax brand. The internal components of the camera are forever upgradable once brand recognition is established. For me, the build quality alone of the Pentax K3 suggests that it is a professional camera.

Hey guys & girls, long time Pentax user here, but I haven't been on the forum for a while.

Very excited to hear about the K3, looks like a cracking camera. I wanted to ask you all a question that has been bugging me for a long time.

In the latest review of the K3 on this site, the editor refers to the K3 as possibly the best "enthusiast APSC" camera on the market. I am certainly not being critical of the review, but these descriptions and labels are becoming more and more common.

So what qualifies a camera to be "professional". I take professional photos with my K7 and I know I could take better photos to sell with a point & shoot than some professional photographers out there, as could a lot of you on here I am sure.

Furthermore, why are we constantly differentiating between FF & APSC cameras? I know the benefits that WE as old Pentax users would get out of FF, but take away the sensor size and these cameras compete. The only thing I see that differentiates cameras is price. Why not compare the K3 to a 1Dx? Of course many would consider the the 1Dx is going to be a better camera because it costs $6000. Throw the K3 up against some top of the line cameras and see how it stacks up. In my mind it is every bit "professional" as a 1Dx. If you can cope without a FF sensor and do not want to blow up images to the size of a bus, then this camera should compete with all the others. Price then becomes the biggest variable.
