Not sure if people saw it but the K-3 Limited Silver Edition is back in Australia on Pentax online for a short time.

My sister works at a camera store and found out that there are two left in stock in Queensland. Might be more in other states.

Was lucky enough to be able to get one and upgrade from my beautiful K-5.

Just get the K-5. It is still rated as one of the best DSLRs on DxoMark. I recently got to replace a very old K100d. Never been more satisfied. :)

SSD wear out a after longer time than you might think. And if you think read-writes might be an issue just get a OCZ MAX input-outputs edition. SSDs are unbelieveable when you first use them. You wonder how you ever went without that.

By the way I still use tradiional drives in RAID for photos. The speed is not a problem as HDD bandwidth is still 50+mb a second on most PCs.

Good to hear you are happy with them. I had heard reports that they were dodgy... I guess not!

Well that's interesting. Seems to be quite some confusion about warranties here. Maybe we could and a sticky about it?

It would be great if Pentax would incorporate such a feature as part of a new firmware release! Not a bad idea either about using light legbands for your tripod... creative. :)

 My post does look confusing!

Let me explain. When I shoot landscape I am always pushing the minimum focal length (18 mm). I should broaden the minimum to the DA 14mm. The 31mm works out to be about 50mm ideal for my second lens.

Thanks for clarifying that. I can only imagine how many people don't consider the warranty! :(

Looks like my three main focal lengths with roughly the same amount of shots at the 35mm equivalent are:

  1. 27mm = 18mm APS-C

  2. 80mm = 50mm APS-C

  3. 450mm = 300mm APS-C

Based on this it looks like something like the following would be ideal; taking into account the good suggestions above:

  1. 14mm DA Limited

  2. 31mm Limited or Zeiss Distagon 35mm f2

  3. Existing kit Sigma 70-300mm until I can afford the Sigma 50-500mm

Great software really helps you narrow your selection. Thanks again! :)

That program looks awesome! Does not look like it works with RAW though. Maybe if I export my photos as JEPGs first? I use Lightroom and it can filter through focal length but does not produces sexy graphs like this! :)

Yeah, and I hear that the 35mm macro is really nice, with a pretty good bokeh.

Thank you for your suggestions. I like the idea of the DA 15 and FA 31; gives you both landscape work and street. Are you certain that the Zeiss does not have auto aperture, I thought I read that it does?

It is finally time to upgrade. I'll be getting the K-5 and starting my collection of good quality lenses. Would prefer not to get anything "the will do"; would rather invest that money on better gear. I will have about $1500 to spend on lenses:
  1. Either the FA 31mm Limited or the Zeiss Distagon 35mm f2

  2. To accompany one of these the DA 15mm Limited for landscape shooting.

I like shooting landscape and lifestyle.

Your thoughts?

Thanks

I'm going to try the K-5 with the manual lens first and see how it goes. Might not need the Katz.
