Lovely. I use that 35-105 on my ME Super too, it's a bit unbalanced given the weight, but the pictures are so nice.

Which is precisely why I chose the ME Super. Cheap, fairly plentiful, spare parts not hard to find, electronically-controlled mechanisms don't go out of tune for a long time. Handles well and is decently sturdy too. It's like the AK47 of Pentax film bodies. Even if it breaks, I know something probably can be done about it.

If that's the case, frequently-photographed cities would be even more soulless. I'd suggest staying away from New York City and San Francisco, especially the vicinity of Times Square and that orange bridge.

Visit at your own risk.

Damn, that's an amazing deal. I've never seen even that lens alone being sold for that price.
I did get my own ME Super (body only) for $40 though, still not much of a wallet burn :D

Hmm. Reminds me of our own "indestructible K-5" thread here: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-k-5-forum/178068-i-swear-these-thi...tructible.html

Page 4 has a pretty hair-raising frozen K-5 (still worked)..

Where is the option "lenses steal a photographer's soul"? I think a lot of us here would admit to that... LBA to infinity and beyond! :D

As Pentaxian, if you were to jump ship, Nikon, Canon, Sony, or?

Hmm. I'd agree that Nikon has the closest feel to Pentax, in that their cameras tend to have good handling and their higher-end bodies have lens backwards compatibility like we do (both of these points so unlike Canon).

That said, every other company has something attractive to me. Olympus makes some really nice glass, and the compactness of the Micro 4/3 bodies is nice. Also, somehow most Olympus cameras produce really nice color. I used to be an Olympus user (Oly E-520), only switched to Pentax because I decided I wanted them Pentax primes. And the K-5 attracted me too. (Note: the Oly E-520 has dismal dynamic range and high ISOs, which sort of explains why I liked the K-5 so much)

Canon... well I really dislike the handling of Canon cameras, with the possible exception of the X0D series. But I think I like the color of Canon JPEGs (although I shoot mostly raw), and I sometimes like the 'look' produced by Canon glass better than them Nikkors (totally a subjective preference, nothing much to do with IQ).

The new Fujis are very, very tempting to me, especially the X-Pro 1. Very tempting with those primes. However, if I get them (will take a long time to pony up that amount of cash, heh), I wouldn't be jumping ship, rather I'd use the Fujis as a complementary system to my Pentaxes.

Leica, I actually don't like the M9, but the S2 attracts me. Then again our 645D attracts me even more. And in any case I'll have to wait till my next life, if I get reborn as a rich man, before I can even dream about getting one of those. :D

DA35 Macro.

Runners-up would be FA31 Ltd, DA* 60-250, and the elusive K 28mm f/2.

da 15 ltd soft corners ??

I own the DA 21, and I initially felt let down by the seemingly soft corners (they are more or less like the DA15 shot the OP showed here, maybe a touch softer still).

However, when I started making large prints (larger than 20", some up to 25" wide), I immediately shut up and stopped complaining. The amount of corner softness from the lens wasn't even perceptible in the print, even when viewed close up.

We need to stop pixel-peeping, I think. It does not tell us much about how prints will look.

I've had that sort of experience too, although mine were much more touching-- middle-aged folks with graying hair who used to shoot Pentax in the film age spotting my K-5, coming up to me and saying, wow, Pentax is still alive? They always look visibly touched when I tell them that indeed, Pentax is still here.

Always makes my day.

My biggest problem is being too much of a skinflint to spend on a good, proper tripod. Logically I know it's crucial, but when the time comes to lay down the cold hard cash I always pull back.

I do have a tripod, which is decently sturdy, although not sturdy enough to hold the camera with, say, a DA* 50-135 attached. But it has one of those atrocious pan/tilt heads which causes me to waste precious time setting up shots.

Where does one go to find a good but cheap used tripod, I wonder.

Fellow Malaysian here, although I'm currently studying in the US. Seems like Pentax is doing well among Malaysians, I know a couple of other M'sian Pentaxians, one of whom is a working photojournalist. Good times.

Well, an analogous statement might be made thus:

RioRico is a classic case of a Glass Depletion Zone, where so many lenses have been collected that the local lens availability is seriously low. Other such sites are anywhere in the vicinity of those who voted more than 200 at that "how many lenses you own" poll.

Glass depletion raises serious environmental concerns. An anomaly would likely occur if glass ownership levels became too imbalanced, and THEN where would we be? Deep trouble, for sure. (etc etc.)

How to deal with glass depletion? Whenever you see a flea market, or, god forbid, a used photo equipment store, walk the other way. Hide your wallet. Close your eyes. Lay hands on as few lenses as possible. The pocketbook you save might well be your own.

Just kidding, of course! :D

Oh my god, don't tempt me! Those sound tempting indeed, especially if they can still be used on enlargers (I do film/ wet darkroom work from time to time, usually in borrowed darkrooms)

The lenses will probably have to wait though; currently, the thing I'm in most need for is a good tripod. After that I have my eyes on them Helios 44-2s (the swirly bokeh is slowly growing on me...)... for which I will need an M42 adapter, and we all know what a classic gateway drug that adapter is :D

I have seven at the moment, but am almost definitely going to sell off one of them (an M 28/3.5, because I got the K version afterwards and liked it better).

Apart from the M28/3.5, all of my lenses get regular use. I'm actually quite easily tempted by cheap, interesting glass... but the desire to keep my whole kit portable, plus the fact that I have to move often, has been my most powerful anti-LBA talisman so far! :D

The two most important ones for me are:

1. De-cripple the mount, enable Av with pre-A glass
2. Allow user calibration of electronic level (yep, my K-5's level is a bit off..)

"Shtuff People Say to Photographers"

"This lens doesn't zoom?"-- probably one of the most annoying comments that can come our way.

I just recently experienced that while photographing a friend's graduation. While gathering people together for a group photo, some folks noticed me framing with my feet rather than by zooming. That touched off a flurry of remarks in roughly this vein: "wow, your lens is so "high tech" huh, it doesn't even zoom?! What brand is Pentax? Cheap brand!"

(The irony of the "cheap brand" remark comes out when you consider that the lens on my K5 at the time was the 21mm Limited.)

Well, for me, the robbery Limited option seems most tempting. :D

But if we are to keep things strictly on the legal side of the fence, I agree with most everyone above that you should get at least a couple of quality lenses by selling off your least-liked/least-used lenses. You being the RioRico, I suspect there would be a ton of those (maybe even a literal ton?)
