I thought this was appropriate for Armistice day. A statue commemorating Australian soldiers ignoring British High Command's orders not to rescue wounded fellow soldiers in the aftermath of the battle of Fromelles in WW1.
One of my great uncles was here, of the 887 men in his Battalion who went into battle here, he was one of the 106 who answered roll call the next day.

Favorite film for low light photos with Pentax manual SLRs?

It's easy to say what my favourite films for low light are but they are not so easy to get anymore, fortunately for me I have a large stash on "ice". My go to low light films are Kodak Hawkeye and Maco Eagle AQS both surveillance and traffic camera films, that both have massive latitude and still stay reasonably fine grained even when pushed 3 stops. I bought them from remaining stock left from the change-over to digital traffic cameras, they came in 45.7m (150ft) bulk rolls which I roll onto used cassettes obtained from my friendly local processor. Many of my friends also love this film and have been able to coerce rolls of this film from me ( my brother is a serial pest in this regard), luckily I still have 8 bulk rolls and 25 already loaded 36 exposure rolls left.

My number 1 was easy, my black SV always brings a smile to my face, it's understated and classy and is built and works like a fine watch.
The next 2 were a little more difficult but I went with the LX over the MZ-S just because of its meter.

77mm vs Sigma 85mm

As I posted earlier, I have both lenses, but I may not have elaborated enough on the strengths and weaknesses of each.
First the Sigma. It's much bigger lens as can be seen by the pictures I included in my last post. It's a sharper lens in the centre ,corners and edges especially wide open. It doesn't fringe like the 77ltd and is more flare resistant. It renders very 3D like. It has a very pleasant bokeh when the background is not too busy but when there is a complex background it renders it in a confusing manner that is not very pleasing.
Next the 77ltd. It has the edge in size and portability by a long long way. Yes it is not as sharp especially in the corners wide open but this is not a problem for portraiture. Sharpness isn't everything, just take someones portrait and show all their wrinkles, pimples, pores and blackheads, soft lenses were used in movies for a reason! Yes it can flare, this is easily fixed by re-positioning the subject or camera, it can purple fringe but it has a beautiful creamy bokeh that it always achieves no matter the background.
I always use the Sigma in studio or where I CAN control the background and carrying it is not a problem but for distant locations or where unknown backgrounds may occur I always use the 77ltd for its beautiful creamy backgrounds. All the worry about 85mm v 77mm and f1.4 v f1.8 and DOF is in my opinion inconsequential (who wants to see a subjects eyes in focus and their nose and ears out of focus) as both lenses will produce stunning portraits.

77mm vs Sigma 85mm

I own both and here is the take I have on my copies of these lenses. The Sigma is MUCH larger than the diminutive 77ltd see the attached pictures (the 1st without hoods, the 2nd with the 77ltd's inbuilt hood extended and the Sigma with the FF hood, last with the Sigma's APSC hood). With my copies the Sigma is much sharper, not that the 77ltd is by any means a slouch, but the Sigma is seriously sharp and renders 3D like photos that are extremely pleasing with the right background. The 77ltd on the other hand while not quite as sharp or 3D like, always provides awesome bokeh no matter what the background is.
When I have to travel the 77 is my go to lens but when I have a controlled environment the Sigma can't be beaten.

A Pentax AF540FGZ mark 1 would do everything and more that you are asking as well as being more much powerful. Just make sure it's not a mark 2 as it doesn't have its own auto metering.

Godox 350TT on Pentax MZ-S or MZ-6?

Hello "rollbahn", I'm using Godox's Xpro-P trigger which I believe is using the same protocols as the TT350P. Godox only lists it as being compatible with only a few current cameras, but it works perfectly with all my Pentax P-TTL cameras including my MZ-S, so I can't see why their TT350P wouldn't be the same.

"F03" error in viewfinder of Pentax 645n?

I have this written in ballpoint pen on the back of an old 645n manual that I acquired

Someone was getting an error message on their camera. They did this:

I took the film rewind hole at the bottom and put a pen tip inside to force it to "rewind". After this I put film in, the ERR error went away and I was shooting fine. I've since fixed a friend's camera the same way.

For these types of locations a few steel tent pegs work for me. They are very light and when they are driven in and hooked over your light stand legs nothing moves it.

Godox v860ii - do they work with Pentax cameras?
Posted By G and T

The short of it is Godox v860II's of any camera brand flavour ( Canon, Nikon, Sony etc ) will work off camera with Xpro-P (also called R2 Pro-P) triggers in HSS and TTL but not directly on the cameras hot shoe where they become manual flashes only.
V860II's will need the latest firmware update to do this. There is already a thread about this. Xpro-P TTL Wireless Flash Trigger for Pentax

Xpro-P TTL Wireless Flash Trigger for Pentax

Even more astounding news, I'm able to get TTL and HSS with the Xpro-p on my MZ-S. I don't know of any other film camera that is doing this. I have now been able to confirm reliable operation with the Xpro-p and the K7, K5, K5IIs, K3 and now the MZ-S as well as Godox's listed supported cameras K3II , K1 and K1 II.

Any Pentax camera from The K5II/IIs onward will auto-focus dramatically better in low light than your K5, so there are plenty of budget options. The K1 on the other hand while not the budget option has the brilliant combination of fast reliable auto-focus in low light and a wonderful large bright viewfinder.

Xpro-P TTL Wireless Flash Trigger for Pentax

Firstly are you running firmware version 2.2 on your AD200. This can be checked by holding in the mode button while turning on the AD200. If you are not running v2.2, Inkista gave a detailed description earlier in this thread on updating Godox firmware.
If you are running v2.2 on your AD200 you should be ready to go. Once you have the Xpro on your camera and everything is switched on make sure that flash is enabled on your K5 and not wireless or red-eye reduction etc. (checked by the bottom button of the 4-way controller). The Xpro and your light should be set to the same channel if they are you should be able to select the flash's group with one of the Xpro's 5 side buttons. When you have your flash's group highlighted you can then change its settings,if you push the mode button your Xpro should change from M to TTL etc. with each push, the control wheel can then be used for exposure compensation for TTL or to adjust manual settings. Each time you change one of these settings on the Xpro you should see a corresponding change on your AD200's screen. So TTL will be enabled when you select the flash's channel and group and you use the mode button to select TTL while the group is highlighted and this will be confirmed on the AD200's screen.

I hope this helps,
Glenn

More good news, Godox has released new firmware updates for some more strobes, AD600 strobes, AD400 and now AD200 strobes are now compatible with Pentax X TTL.
I had to try out yesterdays firmware release on my AD200 even though I have always shot manual, but this firmware is a revelation, none of the old TTL inconsistencies and then if you're like me just use the TCM function and convert TTL to manual
settings and adjust to your liking from there with the added bonus of no pre-flash. It gives great baseline exposures, my flash meters aren't going to like this. One more bonus is Godox's Pentax X TTL does work well with manual focus lenses
unlike Cactus triggers.( I've been using Voigtlanders with A contacts, I'll have to test more.)
