are geared tripods twist/loosen type setups or are they more like a crank to fine tune the setup which has a set amount of friction?

Ahh, the beginning of a new forum adventure! I'm shooting with a canon 5d2 and wanted to experiment with MF lenses since there are so many out there on the market. Looking to expand my horizons! i don't have a website but i am active on other forums.

New to the pentax forums but this is my first foray into manual focuses lenses. Anywho, i'm looking for a 500mm mirror lens made by Tair. also goes by 3m-5a/ MTO 500mm f:8 cadiotrophic mirror lens which has a m42 threaded mount or a T-mount.... most likely the former.
anywho, please send me a pm if you have one. i'm looking to spend $110 shipped to california
on a side note, does anyone know the difference between the MTO version and the russian logo'd tair version with the star?
"ZM-5A (3M-5A) 500mm F/8 Mirror (Catadioptric) lens
Russian made JSC "Lytkarino Optical Glass Factory" LZOS based on Maksutov's design.
This lens succeeded the original MTO-500 lens, which was a heavy, brass unit. "MTO" stands for "Maksutov's Tele Ob'ektiv". ZM stands for Zerkal'nyi (Mirror) Maksutov's.
The later 3M-5CA was redesign from 3M-5A cutting size and weight ( 3M-5A weight = 1.225 kg) to 0,62 kg by removing tripod collar and build in hood." ZM-5A (3M-5A) 500mm F/8 Mirror lens ---------- Post added 08-08-11 at 10:11 AM ---------- Flickriver: Most interesting photos tagged with 3m-5a
