Pentax Q adaptor

I should explain, the 1/13s is the flash sync speed using the electronic shutter, NOT the limit of the shutter itself. However, the electronic shutter can seem to emphasize the rolling shutter effect for fast moving subjects (in comparison to the leaf shutter)

The reason I suggest the second method on lenses with an aperture ring isn't accurate is 1) the adapter ring is smooth and clickless 2) I'm not sure the marked numbers are in stops or just a general reference 3) my 50 1.2 won't fully open on this method.

Finally, by "smallest aperture" I meant "minimum" as in the opposite of the largest aperture or "maximum".

Yes, the adapter can take any lens that allows manual focus. I believe you are correct about the contacts. The reason is to use the leaf shutter built in to the adapter. Unfortunately this is probably also the reason the adapter is so expensive (along with build quality). Without the leaf shutter you'll be stuck at 1/13 or slower... with the leaf shutter you can use up to 1/1000. This, honestly makes the Q far more useful with adapted lenses, particularly long lenses. It can become rather formidable with good quality glass adapted...

For lenses that have an aperture ring, turn the adapter all the way to the L position and simply use the aperture ring on the lens OR (not recommended for accurate aperture) set the lens to the smallest aperture and adjust with the adapter.

For lenses that don't have an aperture ring, use the adapter aperture controller.

New Godox Xnano trigger, but not for Pentax?

I've never used remote TTL but in my experience, Yongnuo and Godox triggers made for Canon work on a Pentax hotshoe for manual groups (I find manual off camera flash simple and effective for portraits and studio lighting)

I got a Q7 limited set from Japan years ago "for my wife". Now she just uses her phone so guess who gets to use the Q...

Now I got a QS1 under the tree (from Japan) waiting for my daughter to open in a couple of days.

Ricoh could do a kickstarter campaign with a limited run. (Or open source the Q mount if they're not using it anymore) I'd be happy with a native Q macro lens. The other lenses are great.

Exactly... If they never recommended something in the first place, I'm not exactly concerned about their reasons for "no longer recommending". In other news, I'm sorry to say "no longer" reading Camera Jabber.

Didn't see this mentioned above (or else I missed it) but you can download HitFilm Express and use it for free. Apparently it's got all the same features as Hit Film Pro.

HitFilm Express: Free editing & VFX software - HitFilm.com

I've used Premiere and After Effects, Final Cut, iMovie, Windows Movie Maker, and a couple of others.

For the price (free) it's excellent. it's fairly intuitive and high quality.

What do you primarily shoot as subjects?
Have you looked back through your EXIF and checked your actual most used focal lengths? the answer may surprise you.

You may be using the 31 most on crop, but (as was already mentioned) on film or FF the 43 is closer to what the 31 is on APSc.

43 is a somewhat difficult FOV on crop, but i find it excellent on the Sony A7 series or on film.

If most of your shots are head and shoulders portraits, the 31 isn't well suited for that.
If most of your shots are wide-ish landscapes, the 77 isn't well suited for that.

Before someone shoots me down, YES I know there are many beautiful examples of portraits from the 31 and landscapes from the 77.

Legacy lenses on new digital FF

I think we can be pretty confident that these lenses will perform (in the middle of the frame)exactly the same as they do on crop cameras. It's not like trying legacy glass on digital is new just because an FF is coming. Obviously we'll finally get to see the performance at the edges and corners, but the center won't suddenly change.

Best lens for traveling to China?

I have lived in Beijing for almost 8 years now. Most of the places you mentioned you would do well to bring something wide. Are you doing it on your own schedule or with a tour group?

Edit: there are several great wall locations, some have vantage points where telephoto works beautifully too

I use a 16GB Class 10 Toshiba FlashAir card with my Q7 and have found it works well. (Also fine on the K10, K5iis). You may already know this but I'm pretty sure you can't transfer RAW over the wireless. I'm also not sure if it's the card or the Q7 but using RAW+ slows writing much more than my K5

Well, I've lived in China for 6 years. I know that they are capable of making high quality stuff here. The low quality stuff is sold here or to Walmart, while most of the high quality stuff is made for export (like the 08)

I'd like to know too. The optical quality and construction and feel of the 08 seem to be very good to excellent. Not your typical Made in China lens.

I tracked down a Premium Kit in Japan and had it delivered to China. It came in at about 945 USD including delivery. I'm planning on doing some reviews soon, but I thought I'd start this thread with something I find interesting. The following items came in the kit:

Q7 body...Assembled in Philippines
01 Lens...Assembled in Vietnam
01 Lens hood..Assembled in Vietnam
02 Lens...Assembled I'm Vietnam
02 Lens hood...Made in Japan
06 Lens... Made in Thailand
06 Lens hood...Made in Vietnam
08 Lens...Made in China
08 Lens hood... Made in Japan
Camera strap...China
CPL filter... Made in Japan

I'm impressed at the international effort made by Ricoh to make this kit work.

Why the AVERSION to video?

How embarrassing...despite choosing a Chinese name as my login and despite living in Beijing, I actually am a North American with English as my mother tongue. I'm hoping this isn't a language issue.
It's been a while since I've studied English, but I'm pretty sure my grammar is as accurate as most non- English majors. I can't vouch for my punctuation, though. I'm trying to get used to the updated keyboard on my phone.

As for the definitions you provided, I'd say my intended choice of wording encompasses those. I'd describe some of the comments I've read as a strong distaste toward or desire to avoid video functions on a DSLR (let alone actually using those functions). I think we can also safely say that nausea might describe the feeling when people watch a video shot with digital image stabilization (as opposed to the mechanical SR in the K5 series).....that was only half joking. (•;
As for capitalizing the word "aversion". It was for emphasis. If I were yelling I'd do the whole sentence in caps.

Steve, ignore the above if it annoys you too much and just accept my thanks for you congratulating me on my son. Children ARE a blessing and I'm blessed that he's our third. Sometimes too many blessings at once is exhausting. (3˝yr old daughter, 2yr old daughter, and now my newborn son!) It's a good exhaustion.

Mikesul, I didn't calculate or try to elicit a type of response. I was asking a genuine question. I read the forums every day and was away for two weeks because of having a baby and came back to what read to me like several posts angry about video "whiners". I didn't manage to catch the whining that brought this on.

Norm, I'm not your enemy. I read this forum a lot and you post a lot. I do enjoy many of your posts and have appreciated your photography. Really.

You're a good guy but sometimes you're a crotchity bastard. Tell you what...next time I'm in Algonquin I'll bring you 25 bucks to offset all the trouble we "whiners" have caused. I haven't been since I moved from Guelph to Beijing. You can choose cash, beer or wine.
