I recently got the K-3 and HD 1.4 and am using them with my F*300. I am blown away with the level of detail I am getting! I want to try again with a better background, a bit of flash, and get closer. Just got the "Better Beamer" for my Sigma 530 DGS and am trying to figure out HSS (never done it before and am challenged!)
The images you guys are posting are just amazing-What an inspiration!

I lucked into an interesting event at the Old Dead Oak yesterday--the termite hatch. Actually, while the bird action seemed restricted to the tree, the hatch seemed ubiquitous: termites were streaming out of the woods by the hundreds of thousands (I'll bet the pest control companies were swamped by calls from panicked neighbors.) Interestingly, the only birds who participated in the feast were waxwings and swallows--no phoebes, gnat-catchers or woodpeckers.
Despairing of catching a feeding swallow in flight, I focused my attention on the waxwings (which are kind of exotic to my mind--I didn't see one until a couple of years ago and can't recall any mention of them by the family birders of my youth.) Besides, they're interesting birds to photograph: gorgeous in some photos, totally goony in others. And then there's the challenge of the burnished plumage....
So here's some of what I got: |

Finally got a decent shot of the Road Runner at my in-law's last weekend. This one has been sneaking around but always finds me when I don't have my camera.
I also got another glimpse of the Golden Eagle pair that hunt around their property. One day I'll get close for something good. |

A few from today. I got wet as did the camera and lens. My only issue was my glasses and the viewfinder being so foggy that I couldn't see. AF worked just fine.

Beautiful day, took out the big boy, 31A adaptall 200-500mm. On the south side of the castle is a charming bowling green, with an inlet off the main estuary.
A pair of swans reside here and this year they have 8 cygnets. They like to cruise up and down the inlet in formation.
Visiting primates take the high ground...
Oyster Catchers like it here too.... hey guys no hanky panky in front of the tourists... well really :o .
Meanwhile -OMG! cannibal gulls!. Or maybe not, looks like a dead pigeon, probably roadkill. What he really wants is some chips (fries) to go with... |

I'm always envious when checking out this thread. It's at least 80% fantastic bird shots, of gorgeous birds I doubt I'll ever see :(

With the Sigma 170-500. Great blue heron just ate a fish. by Designosophy, on Flickr
I'll post the fish-eating photos later if there's interest.
On another note, I got my hands on an FA 200 f/2.8 that I was considering using with a 2x teleconverter as a small/light/long option. It's great at close distances, but soft at long distances. Probably would be better with a better teleconverter, but I can't really afford one, and I do miss the additional 100mm the 170-500 offers.

Outstanding shots, guys!
A few days ago, walking in our local park in the evening, I found a nest. Because it is a hollow in a tree I thought at first that it belongs to woodpeckers. Today I discovered who is the real owners.
