I respectfully disagree. Throwing out a broken camera in favor of buying another working used camera for the same basic price is wasteful. A little more junk in the world, a little less useful in the world. That is a lose-lose proposition.
Besides, what guarantees that the new old camera will not go belly up tomorrow? A repair done with the right firm will last for years to come and will pretty much guarantee no issues. You Tube |

You mentioned the LX-5. It's a pretty serious little camera, and the price you quoted is I think a little high. Been seeing it lower in my travels. Last Thanksgiving season Amazon ran a 269.00 deal on it. look for it to hit that level again this season. In addition to providing me with a micro-DSLR and mini-Micro 4/3 like experience, it has become my production video camera for activities like skiing and other things where I want to get the shot but lugging the gear is not feasible. |

Among the uses already pointed out, you can use the articulated screen while looking through the evf to choose your focus point with your finger. It's a touch screen (obviously) so it becomes a nice adjunct to the control buttons. And the camera has an eye sensor that will switch between EVF and LCD when you approach/withdraw from the vicinity of the evf.
The bar has been raised, and I think you'll see this technology increasingly make it into the DSLR segment (even as mirrorless eats away at the segment). Canon 60D has had an articulating screen for some time...
Of that dpreview said:
"However this increased reliance on the rear screen hints that the 60D is trying to stretch beyond the classic DSLR use pattern. And for video shooters the large, detailed and articulated LCD will more than outweigh the tweaks made to viewfinder shooting. Sadly the contrast detection autofocus is still slow enough to reduce the usefulness of the articulated screen for handheld stills shooting, but tripod users and shooters of static subjects should appreciate it."
The GH3 has extremely fast AF... a rumored Sony sensor... and a magnesium alloy body that promises to be quite a bit nicer than the build on the GH2...
At the end of the day this is just an example of where this is showing up. How the market has and will respond seems pretty clear...

Tamron Adaptall-2 24mm F/2.5 Model 01B with M42 Adaptal mount Asking Price 65.00 Shipped Item Location
Connecticut USA (United States) Item Description
Excellent Tamron Adaptall-2 24mm F/2.5 Model 01B. Comes with case, original Tamron cap. Also comes with an M42 Adaptal 2 mount with generic M42 cap.
I've used this to good effect on my Spotmatic and liked it on my K10D as well. No issues with glass or with cosmetics, overall it looks pretty unused. The M42 mount is very clean as well and includes the auto pin so that this lens will behave like a Super Takumar.

I have been a contributing member here since 2007.
I started one of the longest threads here, and donated a camera that has been sent literally around the world to scores of people so that they could use a vintage Pentax film camera.
Today I came to find that my membership has been reduced to that of a non-contributing member.
I guess I understand. I have not been around much lately. Financial difficulties occasioned sale of much of my gear and frankly I was coming back to sell a little more to help pay bills.
I am only writing this on the off chance that there is some error. If not I will consider re-upping.... thanks in advance for confirming what happened here. Please feel free to PM me instead of answering publicly. I am already a bit humiliated.
Respectfully,
Seaain

Paypal fees reflected in pricing. Shipping included as well. Shipping will be via Priority Mail, Insured. I will ship international, but international shipping is very expensive and I am neither marking it as gift nor understating value. Additionally, I will not ship to locations where I cannot insure or track shipments. Kirk L-Plate for K-5 and K-7. SOLD Excellent Condition. 95.00 shipped. See photos below. That's where I landed too.
K-5 with
DA15
FA50 1.7 (and I'm thinking I don't use this enough)
F28 2.8 (if this was not so compact and sharp it would be gone too)
Tamron 28-75mm 2.8
DA 55-300mm
The rest is gone including my K10D which I ** loved. **
I acquired an Olympus E-PL3 and E-PL2 with 14-42mm, 9-18mm, and 40-140mm. next up is a Panny 20mm f/1.7
