*ist DL and batteries?

I have read pages and pages of complaints about the battery warning empty indicator on the istD. It seems to be a major issue on many threads in this forum. I tried everything suggested in the posts to no avail. Just when I was about to consign the camera to the trash, I set the top left mode dial to flash before switching on with the same batteries previously showing empty. The camera sprang back into life.!
Wonder how many gave up before me?

Hi thanks for the offer. I have now finished the film and the results are good. So I suppose everything else is OK just the LCD display missing from the view finder. Any ideas appreciated.

Hi, my viewfinder LCD has not (as far as I'm aware) not been damaged, nor is it blacked out. It is frosted as normal but with no LCD information unlike the top LCD. It appears to me as though the information is not reaching the LCD (ie same state as when switches off. Maybe a clue hear. I may eventually have a spare prism if it helps you.

Thanks Adam, yes tried changeing the batteries (twice), anyway the top LCD and backlight would not work if it was only the batteries. The top LCD works fully on all modes so it is only the view finder LCD that is blank.

No LCD viewfinder info on Pentax super A, but normal LCD display on top.
I am puzzled that the LCD on the top plate is working OK but there is no LCD image in the viewfinder.
Is it cureable, wil the camera still perform OK without? view finder back light buton works OK but still no LCD.

I am moveing to Digital on a very tight budget. I am thinking of a second hand K100D or *ist.
Before taking the plunge I need to know that I can make full use of my old lenses.
will my M series still work on aperture and shutter priority modes.
will my A series still work on programmed automatic.
will my Kaf autofocus still be capeable of auto focus?
regards
Chris

Pentax Super A no LCD in viewfinder but OK on top plate. Before taking the digital plunge, (looking for a DSLR at £100) I am running a film through my Pentax super A. The LCD exposure information is displayed on the top plate and appears to function OK, but there is no LCD exposure information at the bottom of the view finder. I am assuming the camera is otherwise working OK without this info but hope I may be able to find a quick fix.

Yes, cameras too! just managed to breath life back into my old pentax super A with mirror lock up, but no luck so far with a similar problem on my MV, but time will tell. No mention of compatability with my old flash AF280T with digital.

Hi my old MV and super A have laid dormant in the drawer since I aquired a cheap compact digital. I have now outgrown that and want to get use out of my old lenses.
I understand that all K M KA FA should work on most DSLR Pentax cameras. I presume some features will be sacrificed?
I would like to use my 35-70 with macro lens which is Autofocus as well as my other A series lenses.
Which camera body should I go for to use all the features of the mentioned lenses. Previously I preferred to use Programmed AE on my super A and use a Pentax AF280T TTL flash. I am aiming at the budget end of the market or even second user.
regards
Chris.
