Thanks usn ret and HoutHans. I am happy with this shot showing where the elephant is at. A crop would have shown the radio tracker collar which is a bit distracting.

135 mm not supposed to be perfect for wildlife, but hey, you can get some surroundings in as well. And it is spectacular. Desert adapted elephant in the Hoanib river

Check the autofocus contact points on the lens. Two little tabs and it seems that the DA*300 can have a problem with those. One broke off on my lens and it could not focus manual or autofocus. There is a few threads about that

It is a special place and with the rare water even more so. You do need to be very early before the wind starts and it is about a forty mile drive and then 20 minute walk through the dunes, but very much worth it

Usually it is actually is just sand and rocks. Fist rain in about ten years that was enough for the place to start blooming, but even with just sand and rocks it is still something to behold

Usually a sandy, bumpy road across a desolate valley. A rare rain shower transformed the Namib into green frenzy

There are places here that you just need to point and shoot, and it will show something beautiful Could have posted under KP or landscapes, but 18-135 always shines

Both with the KP and DA*300 F4
The first one of a Himba kraal. The Himba's are a pastoral tribe in Namibia's North Western corner, very much a desert, but they are making a living there for centuries and still do.
The second black and white shot is in the same area of a very upmarket lodge, using local culture and architecture
