Good review. I haven’t pulled the trigger yet because I’m one of those folks who was waiting for them to come out with a camera like this but I was also soooo looking forward to it having a movable lcd for how I like to use it. But at this price, I’m still on the fence as a result of it not having one.

This is my big issue - no flippy/tilty screen - it's the thing I've been wanting for a few years on a flagship APS-C from Pentax for the low shots and novel perspectives where a fixed screen is a real impediment (and I don't want to have to buy another camera just to have that -- too bad it can't be implemented with a firmware upgrade!)....but all the other upgrades might be too compelling even without it...

...it looks like they got a lot right or dramatically improved vis-a-vis prior Pentaxes, but is there anything you feel they really missed the mark on that surprised you? Just curious.

I don't know if people are going to look at it that way - it's an APS-C and people don't expect APS-C cameras to be in the $2K range.

Just wondering for those who have extensively used both the K3 and KP, if you could only have one, which would it be?

Let the show begin!

Will this mean even less third party lenses for Pentax?

I'm wondering if the move to mirrorless by most camera manufacturers will leave Pentax even further out in the wilderness as new lenses get developed by third party manufacturers. I know that they are already kind of frozen out, but I think it will be even harder since the designs will be for mirrorless, and that probably will even make it more difficult to rebrand lenses.

OK, I suspected it wasn't there in the menu. It is for the K3, but it looks like I just have to have the remote shutter depressed as long as I want the exposure for - there's no menu option to press once to open and once again to close.

I wonder if they haven't made the formal announcement yet about the new flagship because they got pummeled for the fixed LCD and are back redesigning it so that everybody is satisfied? (OK, I'm sure some of you won't find any humor in that...)

Cleaning aperture blades

So, called Phototronic.biz and they seem like a pretty decent place. I took the lens out yesterday and it worked great...so sharp and no issues. The guy I spoke to at Phototronic.biz just said to put it on F16 with a shutter speed of 1000 and see if there are any exposure issues, namely, that it stops down properly. It worked fine, no issues - he said if it doesn't show up under these conditions then it's fine and there's no reason to do anything further. So, it appears to be in good shape. It's really a hell of a lens!

Thanks for your feedback!

Hi - There doesn't seem to be a place for K20D questions any more (I still use it for some reason). Unlike my K3, I can't seem to find a setting for when I'm in bulb mode so that I can press the shutter once to open it and a second time to close it. Are there any K20D users who know if that is available on the camera?

Thanks

I'm going to quote myself on this one "And, please no suggestions that I do it - I might as well just throw out the lens before I start because that's the condition it will wind up in."

I expect that that's the case, but it's in really good shape, took it out last night and it produces really nice images, so part of me feels like I'd like to preserve a really nice piece of glass.....that's a judgement call I realize....but of course, I might not need to do this since it's very close to being snappy, just not as snappy as the best ones I have.

Hi folks,

Just picked up a Vivitar Series 1 (Komine) 28-90mm F2.8-3.5 Lens Reviews - Vivitar Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database

It's in great shape but I'd like the aperture blades to be snappy (they're pretty decent, not really slow, just not quite snap-to-it snappy). I contacted Eric, but he said he can't clean and re-oil the blades. Wondering if there is someone else out there who does this kind of thing who's reliable and is in the Eric price-range, (And, please no suggestions that I do it - I might as well just throw out the lens before I start because that's the condition it will wind up in.)

Thanks!

Steve

Wonder if much more of the frame will covered with AF points rather than clustering them in the center.

I would think an articulating or flippy screen is tablestakes for any flagship at this point. It’s hard to imagine one without it would have broad appeal. It almost seems like selling a car without Apple CarPlay in 2020.

You mean when more and more surprisingly affordable full frame sensor cams are coming out, Pentax is going to price an APS-C cam higher? Hard to imagine that that's a good strategy to increase market share.
