Ah, I was looking for a similar lense and decided that there wasn't a good option.
How are your images going to be used? What resolution do you need? If you are using a k5, then f2-2.8 should be great.
The (tamron?) was looking the sharpest vs dollars, but I decided to try a fast prime around 24-28mm and crop.
I used the M28/2 and it was working well and now use the sigma 30/1.4.
Provided I nail the focus (manual and needing a canon focusing screen) I can crop really tight atleast to what a fast zoom could crop. Almost all of my images are used online or in print pro-mo, so less than a few megapixels is fine.
I also use a samyang 14/2.8 If I need a superwide it can crop down heaps too as it is so super-sharp.
Good luck.

Thank you for sharing Griz57. It's always nice to see hand made equipment, specially when it has come straight from the earth.

Somewhere mentioned that typically an AA filter consists of two layers that split the light twice, once vertically, and once horizontally.
Supposedly the D800E uses two filters, one splits the light and the other converges it, both in the same plane. Essentially cancelling out the blurring effect.

I recently bought a refurb lense from ebay store. I was unsure, but this lense is in mint condition and perfectly calibrated.

Hi,
I'm looking for a lense in the 15mm range that is at least f2.8 or faster.
It should perform well wide open i.e. lenses listed.
Let's hope you have one lying around
I would like to get the lense to AUSTRALIA before the end of September.
Thanks,

Hi Meekios,
I shoot theatre, physical theatre, circus etc, as I also am a performer in these areas. Typically the productions I shoot are low/medium budget. This usually means restricted lighting design, and smaller venue.
I use a K5, and change lenses. Typically I'm shooting at ISO6400 minimum and preferably using f2 (f2.8 if I can). I will always try and use 1/100 sec as a minimum shutter speed, this will allow capture of medium fast movements, theatre or bands etc. Where 1/250 is where I can capture the faster movements more (still with blurred extremities).
The lenses I'm using right now are a Sigma 30/1.4 for my wide/group, it's the best value and performer in it's area, and it allows me to get in the whole stage for cropping composition. The 50-135 for tight crops/bigger venue (50mm seems to be wide enough for duo/trio shots in some venues). Though I am currently looking at a 15mm-ish f2.8 lense for a particular puppetry performance coming up.
Almost all of my images are used in the digital sphere or on posters, so usually 3 Megapixels will do. Some gigs I leave the 30mm on and crop for closeups/headshots (nailing focus is critical).
Speaking of focus you will need a more appropriate focus screen for manual focus (canon EE-S, EC-A). And don't expect any of the current Pentax's to nail the AF for you, I have had to use MF 100% of the time and now appreciate it as a core shooting style. Nikon can nail low light focus, Canon is also acceptable, but not as snappy/sure).
You mentioned an orchestra pit, that sounds like big theatre/production values, so you may need longer lenses (70-200 on DX) and not necessarily faster than f2.8.
Using two bodies would be optimum for me, but I would prefer them to be the same model/brand with same focus screen installed. I have used a rear-screen only camera as a second body and cannot switch between the shooting styles easily, nor can my eyes adjust to the brightness of an LCD and back quick enough.
As per which brand to use, I chose Pentax for the K5 and it's build/ergonomics (warm and fuzzies), but the AF is not capable of working for my needs (too dim.. think 1/80sec, ISO6400, f/2). Where I have shot with a D7000, and it was focusing fine (even with a slower lense on).
Ultimately I would recommend a single body to start, as I doubt you will miss $1000 worth of shots by switching lenses. For a body I would ultimately aim for a Nikon D700(D3) as it is >=The Bomb, or Nikon D7000, K5 etc etc. That being said, because I am Manual Focusing an Xpro-1 with adapted manual focus lenses would also be >= the bomb, but the fuji lenses are fly-by-wire, and the AF slow.
Lenses are: Six=Half a dozen for any brand.
Currently I am thinking of a Fuji X100 as a 2nd body / sigma 30/1.4 replacement as I am tiring of carrying the K5 everywhere as a walk-around camera and the Fuji will work for both purposes.
I recommend looking at the size of the venues, getting an idea of Exposure Values (how dim it will generally be), where you will be shooting from. (go have a shoot with something...)
Then look at your budget (I treat performance photography as an expensive hobby - it hasn't even paid for my time) and decide what's worth while/what you can use for alternative purposes.
I always prefer to shoot a Dress/Tech rehearsal, and have a quick Greet with the production pre-run. This allows me to shoot from anywhere in theatre...
Sorry for long reply... I got on a roll.

Tough one:
For work: Sigma 30/1.4 (has to be fast)
For play: 77/1.8 (could double as work horse too)

Maybe, it you are inclined, you can have a tentative go at straightening the bend (or bending the straight).
Look at the whole hood, using the lense cap as a circular guide, and visualise which bits are bent in which direction.
To bend it back into a circle:
I would suggest looking for a tin/bottle/tube that is the same or smaller diameter than the hood. It will need a strong and square edge.
You can use the cylinder as something to press the lense hood against, forming it back into shape. Now the cylinder will have to be clamped/held by something else, as it would be too dangerous for the lense if you are hand holding both of them.
Visualize what shape it needs to be, and relate that to pressing the appropriate area onto the tube. I would hold the lense body and press the lense down.
Of course all surfaces will need to be cushioned with tea towels or whatever, and the lense as covered as it can be.
The material will be aluminium, so some pressure will be required to get the material moving, but not much.
If you have a soft go, and it moves in the right direction, great. Keep on trying.
I wouldn't recommend pliers, as they are small and will only bend a little bit at a time. Which would make it worse.
So if you are feeling confident at applying some controlled force, millimeters away from a lense, go for it.

Melbourne (Australia) Item Description
For sale is my M28/2. It's a great lense, super sharp and contrasty, and in great nick.
I spent a while looking for this Gem, enjoyed it's use, and now am looking to pass it on.
The condition is really excellent, glass is pristine, the body has very minor wear. Quite a remarkable specimen for a lense of this age.
Prior to my owning this lense it was serviced by Eric, having the light seals replaced etc.
It has a great character and functions perfectly, focusing action is nice n smooth. It comes with original "SMC PENTAX 2/28" case, and original lense caps.
P.s. I'll pack it really well.

axl, I have started using the sigma 30/1.4. It doesn't scream pixi dust to me, but the specs was the only solution to my need near 28/1.4, and works well for the wide open factor.

Bobbo, sorry about the very delayed response, bus yes the EC-a will black out quite alot at f8. If you are shooting in daylight it may not be an issue.

Sure, here are 2 shots from one of the dimmest shows I have shot. Obviously manual focus - pure AF hunting territory.
1/50, f/2.8, ISO 16000
1/50, f/2.8, ISO 12800
Both have been heavily cropped I think, so there you go!

My K5 front focuses in low (warm) light. I'm using mostly in stage lights in the EV0-3 range, so it really is dim.
I've taken it to a pentax service centre, they gave it an arbitrary test and told me to get lost.
I can't rectify the problem (with AF adjust) and doubt that any service centre can. So now I have a canon EC-A screen and manual focus. I'm accepting that MF is a reality with this camera and the low light conditions and am getting quite good at it.
It feels nice to know that any focus issues are from my fingers and not an electrical system. The reality for me is that if I'm looking for decent AF in the stage conditions I shoot, I'll need a D700/D3, a 5dMkII didn't really do the job either.

I can vouch for the M28/2 (on digital), it's a stellar lense, very nice to use, sharp and great contrast.
I got mine for less than 300 (and may want to move it to someone else soon...).
