This osprey has babies in the nest but they are not big enough to be visible. It will be interesting to know how many young has hatched. |

Hi guys,
It's been a while... It is my swan song, I guess. After lot of thinking I finally decided to move on and sell all of my APS-C gear including my beloved and very trustworthy companion of almost five years Sigma 500/4.5. There are a few shots with K-3 and Sigma, probably the last ones...

Typically at this time of the year the tree on Points of Ceders Island in the Little Assawoman Bay in DE would house about 15 to 20 nests, typically Herons. This year, due to farm run off and septic tank run off from over building the island is dying. The tree is dead. I didn't see a single GBH on the tree - certainly no nest. This was a great place to kayak or take a small boat and watch the birds grow. You could also get close since the birds protect their young.
There were a few birds still on the island including this young egret resting with its eyes closed and then waking up to song. Sadly the tree will probably collapse by next spring from rot.

A nice set. ---------- Post added 05-16-17 at 11:58 PM ----------
Love the sequence. ---------- Post added 05-17-17 at 12:03 AM ---------- A turkey vulture on a tree.
I drove by a rural road and caught this vulture resting on a tree by a river bank. After taking a sequence of pictures, I smelt something rotten. As I drove off, I noticed more vultures on trees on the opposite bank. They must be attracted by the smell. |

Boy isn't that the truth - the quality of the posts on this thread is just outstanding, kudos to all, I really enjoy seeing everyone's efforts. The migratory birds are slowly starting to show up but we had a foot as recently as this past week. However we are starting to see the return of some of our feathered friends. One from today - Killdeer
