Lens trade

from what I can remember the 02 lens was metal and I bought everything Q related like a week or two after it's launch and payed launch prices for it, I even own a sonnetar which is going bye bye soon just like the rest of my Q stuff. The 02 was def metal I remember because the lens hood was plastic and I thought to myself at the time why they couldnt make it all metal like the 01. I wouldn't doubt that they changed materials to cut cost. they are selling black 01s on evil bay right now, I wonder if those are plastic or aluminum lenses...

Pop-Up DSLR Flash Diffuser for K-01

I own that exact one and used it on my K-01 for a little, all it did was soften the flash, but not even in a good way, as if you just lowered the flash power in camera so in the end it's kind of useless regardless of what camera you use it on.

K-01 Shutter Curtain Always Open

sounds like it might be stuck open, also just might be a setting keeping it open, but I think you can only keep it open to clean the sensor with the "clean sensor" option in the menu. so I'm guessing yours is stuck open, but if it's stuck open wouldnt it be causing problems with setting shutter speeds also?

Possible Sensor Issues?

I can't find the post, but I'm pretty positive that you can cover the contacts to bypass the lever staying open, all K-mount lenses have an aperture lever, just the old ones M and down were are not chipped for the A mount cameras. I know for a fact someone on this forum knows what I'm talking about, they posted images on how to do it and everything.

dont remove it, I also forgot someone on the forum showed it before, some tape over the contacts on the mount will do the trick, you'll still have to set the aperture by itself but you dont have to worry about about it being stuck wide open and having to use the green button to meter.

why bother, most people who use a flash are gonna trigger it anyways, a flash trigger on top of the Q is a very tiny portrait package.

with m lenses you have to set the aperture manually and than you can use the green button to get your exposure. you have to use it in manual mode also. I find M lenses a hassle, I prefer the takumars since your able to use aperture priority.

doubt its your sensor, do you have it on manual mode? did you check your f-stop, and is it on something like f22 or f18. something tells me your just not familiar shooting in all manual mode. try the green button with your lens mounted, make sure the f-stop is turned all the way open, well at least to something like f8, and snap a pic and see if the green button picked up the right exposure, if it did you jus thave to learn to shoot in manual mode.

manual focus on the 01 lens - is it usually "stiff" ?

yeah thats all they are, heres a link showing them http://www.thephoblographer.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Toy-Lens-11mm-14Q-680x510.jpg I was even thinking at a time using those smaller fat colored rubber bands you see in office supply sections. But I have so many of these things in different colors

EDIT: heres a better image, I posted this a while ago and I found it on bing https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/attachments/pentax-q/122442d1332901562-si...-slrmagic3.jpg

its not that its sticky, it's that it's so thin your fingers rub and cause it to be sticky. I put these focus band grip thingys that came with the SLR Magic Q mount lens and they extend it out and help with manual focusing so much. But I have no clue where to buy them other than with that specific SLR Magic lens, they give a whole bag with a ton of them in tons of colors.

Doubt that, I only have 6 lenses and they are all pristine. Black spots bombarded my sensor and nothing would remove them no choice but a wet cleaning method. The same spots are also on my Q, but I cant clean the sensor because it has that weird plastic guard covering the sensor.

I get the slanted problem with my sonnetar, it only happens with moving subjects, they could be walking at a slow pace and it'll happen, at any shutter speed. The downfall of an electronic shutter really. My sonnetar is still photography only. I never get that problem with the 01.

heres the link Amazon.com: Digital Survival KIT - Sensor Swab Type 2 (w/Eclipse): Camera & Photo , I bought that one, I don't know the difference between type 1, 2, or 3. I just know the type 2 pack specifically states pentax k-5 and comes with a little bit of everything, so I figured same sensor in K-01, should be good. This is one of the best products I have used for sensor cleaning. I also used the pentax stick and just made things a whole lot worse.

just got my survival kit pack today, came with some lens cleaning clothes, sensor cleaning sticks and the solvent. The stuff works miracles, my sensor was pretty gnarly, was pissing me off no way in hell macro shots were going to happen (how I found out my sensor was so dirty). Sensor is like brand new now, no single spot or spec. This is my new go to sensor cleaning kit.

haha, I liked florida when I lived there, just the weather was insane, that humidity is no joke. And I lived in florida when it went below zero in the winter. Coming from northern california I didnt think I was going to survive, and I dont think a Q could either, I had problems with humidity when I went camping with it at mt. tamalpais which is nothing compared to florida. I dont think the Q can handle harsh weather at all, wasnt meant for it.

from someone who lived in florida for 4 years with the military I can say I wouldnt own anything other than a weather proof camera, it's like jungle weather out there. Extremely hot and extremely humid, for people who havent been to florida, sunglasses, reading glasses, and contact lenses immediately fog up when going outside and you have temporary blindness till the fog clears. Never could understand florida, people moved there for the weather but yet it was the worst weather year around I have ever saw. Probably just florida sun frying your camera, I would keep ip in a camera bag at all times when not actually using it.

Cleaning the yellow rubber?

I've used baby wipes, but I usually just use a little hot water and a napkin and it cleans up the rubber real nice, the mention of vinyl cleaner would probably work even better. I like the fact the grip is rubber, it makes it easy to clean.

Haven't pulled my Q out in a long while due to all the film shooting and noticed tons more spots on my K-01 sensor when I pulled it out, so it's time to clean it. So I pulled the little guy out to play with. Shot with the sonnetar and a slave flash with soft box.

Why is Instagram so popular?

I love instagram, but not really why everyone else does, I use instagram to follow a lot of different artist, blogs, social groups and what not, good way to keep updated with em, example I'm following the Trailer Park Boys and they post images live to instagram of them behind the scenes filming the new movie. I uploaded a couple images and got bombarded with BOTs liking my images, annoying. I just downloaded the new OGGL app which is way better than instagram for photographers but it's hipstamtic exclusive, luckily thats the only program I shoot with on my iPhone and the filters are all the same.

Picked up one of Barton 1972s yin yang straps for my precious. I didnt expect this strap to be so soft and forgiving on the neck, has lots stretch relieving lots of stress and looks extremely classy at the same time. Hipstamatic shot...

still dont understand this viewfinder debate. when not using a viewfinder you are not fixed to eye level shots, reason why shooting from the hip became so popular in the hey days of photography. oh look we have live view now, no more wasting film for a few hopeful waist level shots, no more having to buy an expensive right angle view finder (which are worse than looking through a view finder). I have 20/20 vision and I still get dizzy looking through my MX viewfinder for too long (my main film camera I use for photography school), so your gonna tell me the little view finders you find on DSLRs are an advantage over live view? I honestly believe internet photographers are more in love with the equipment and the act of taking a photo than actually taking photographs, hence the lifting to the eye, you fill incomplete without it and can't comprehend the advantages of live view over the view finder. Like most people who use the K-01 say, they tend to shoot lower to the ground instead of eye level and tend to experiment with composition and angles a lot more. I like to take long exposures on film, sometimes if I have my K-01 on me I'll shoot the image first to see how it looks, I had to buy one of those insanely priced pentax-a right angle finders so I would be able to recreate the compistions and angles I can hit using the K-01's live view, now live view with a tilting screen is a whole other story.

what he said... some film has more grain than others, even if it is a 100 speed film, it all really depends on the film you use and your processing and scanning methods. I notice that my scans are a lot more sharper than my hand printed work, but even that has to do with the fact I'm better at post processing on the computer than I am with chemicals. Film is an art form and a science beyond that of digital photography, experiment with different films and find and use the ones that suits you best.

oh wow, those images look awfully a lot like what comes out of the current line of pentax dslr's and the k-01. IQ is absolutely amazing for that tiny camera and that lens and bokeh, it is def a proper recreation of the old 35mm GR's.
