Exactly! Around the house I am a bit protective of the 55-300, hence the siggy gets bashed whenever I see a rosella or something. I think the sigma is a bit duller. Pleased to meet you, fellow Canberra Pentaxian!

Thanks. I should have used the HD 55-300. Here are a couple with HD 55-300 PLM.

Few of the backyard animals and birds. All the photos were taken using a Sigma 70-300 DG mounted on a Pentax k-r.

DA-L 18-55 vs FA 35-80 (and a few others) for large insect photography

I am only coming to terms with my LBA after amassing more than 30 mostly manual lenses.
This weekend I just stepped out into the courtyard and found this beautiful katydid on the window. I managed to photograph it using a few lenses and despite all the favourable reviews 18-55 performed the worst.
The lenses used were:
DA-L 18-55
FA 35-80
Sigma 70-300 DG
Industar 50/2.8

Of course the industar was the best but I was surprised to find FA 35-80 did very well. Because of photos like these it's becoming my go to lens. Cheap and cheerful, much better than DAL 18-55 in my opinion.

I've started by buying a Smc-a 50\1.4, Helios 58mm on K mount and an Industar 50/2.8 (Helios and Industar are on order) in addition to the 18-55 and 50-200 kit lenses.

Hi everyone,
Just joined the forum after my recent purchase of a K-r. By the way I was a prolific user of a K1000 between 1990 and 1995 (when the thing was stolen). I'm sure I'll be able to pick up a lot of information on this forum.
Regards,
Krishna
