Organising through OCAU = easiest. Running two threads is going to cause some grief.

Oh hallo. :D

How to fix some chips and cracks on an AF540GZ?

Well it's nothing serious, but I can see some hairline fractures along the case, and the business end of the unit has a chipped corner which makes mounting the Stofen diffuser rather difficult. What can I use to "rebuild" the corner and maybe even strengthen the casing of the flash unit? Modelling putty? Anything else I should be aware of? Perhaps I should get some electrical tape around the head to support it and keep it all together? I don't mind doing that if it's a viable option.

I'm not too good with plastics so I want to make sure that I'm doing the right thing before I dick around with a unit that costs too much to think about.

DA*50-135 any reason not to buy?

When DA 60-250 comes out , I wouldn't part with my 50-135. Even with the 77mm, I find at the 50-135 is just so simply outstanding that I can't look past it.

If I sell my kit, definitely one the last ones I'd part with.

Sounds like a pretty good idea, encouraging a sense of community like that. Good time of the year to be shooting as long as it stays dry as well.

G'day folks, glad to meet you all. I'm based in Bondi/Randwick in Sydney, working for a software company here. My K10D is my first SLR and I love it to bits. Really don't take as many photos as I probably should, and my attempts to address this was one of my key resolutions for the new year.

Shame I missed the meet, it would have been great to meet some of the characters from here, but I'm sure we'll see a few more events in the coming months.

How do you clean your lens?

Isopropyl is a good call, I'll get that and some good quality tissues and dab with cotton balls/buds for the more stubborn stains.

Thanks for the heads up.

Last 20 games in the season were exciting for the Oilers, some key RFA signings with potential. After the high of 05-06, I'm looking forward to 08-09 for Edmonton.

Don't ask how I became an Edmonton fan. I don't even remember myself.

Look at the serial number on it, one of the lowest I've seen in an excellent condition like that. Mine's 0004769. I almost converted my Canon shooting cousin to Pentax with this lens.

Almost.. :)

Great price for an excellent lens! Good luck!

Ok, let's be frank, two things:

a) Do you ship to Australia
b) Is there any reason why I shouldn't take this lens? I just bought a 35 f/2 but this lens gets me weak at the knees.

FWIW, I just bought one from a user here for a very similar price and in excellent condition. You have a very sharp price considering how new it is. If you look at it like a 31mm Ltd "lite", like I am, then it's a great pickup with consistently good reviews.

Sure it lacks a few extra blades that give the 31mm its trademark buttery bokeh, but the 35mm was an easy decision for me at the price.

Depends what we're looking to shoot. From a walkabout perspective, the city offers the best options, such as the Rocks, Darling Harbour, Milson's point, George St, Martin Place, etc.

I'm definitely keen for something though. I'm based in Bondi but mobile with a car so I can get about.

Up in the Hawkesbury area, not quite sure what our options are to be honest, anything you could suggest that would be alright? I've got friends and family in the Hills district and so I'm reasonably familiar with the place, but you're a fair way further up. :)

This has been my most recent purchase, and had it bolted onto my K10D during my recent trip to Whistler.

An absolute revelation, and the pictures are worth every cent spent on this beautifully crafted lens.

Metz 58 AF-1 & 48 AF-1 differences, plus other P-TTL guns

The AF540FGZ manual says 1/1 power is ~1/1200 sec (approx 3.5MB):

http://www.pentaxslr.com/files/scms_docs//AF540FGZ_web.pdf (page 91)

For the Metz (approx 1.8MB):

http://www.metz.de/en/service_support/service/bedienungsanleitungen/download.195.pdf (page 180)

For me personally, it's not a question of power, but more of a question of using fill flash during the day, with faster shutter speeds. It's rare that I'll use 1/1, but I have a great preference for indirect lighting through bounce and diffusion, and being limited to 1/125, no matter how rare that might be, is a big deal.

Compared to other flagship flashlights, Nikon SB800 being the benchmark (imho) which does 1/1050, the Metz just cannot compete:

http://www.nikonusa.com/pdf/manuals/Speedlights/SB-800.pdf (page 128)

Now. This has been mentioned as a "feature" in some corners, as the ability to smash out that sort of light (58GN!) for a whole 1/125 is quite a feat. And the build quality apparently leaves ANY other Pentax TTL compatible flash out there for dead.

So now, the question still remains, what flash to get? :)

That's actually not a bad looking setup.

What's the guide number for the unit? Considering the shortcomings of the alternatives when it comes to flash, you've definitely piqued my interest! Especially for $15.
