I'm sure its available throughout Europe - the manufacturer is in Ireland.
I've read that the name Sugru comes from Irish word for "Play".

You're so very welcome!
It's quite a versatile material which is waterproof, dishwasher proof and heat resistant up to 180°C (356°F). Earlier I fixed a knob handle on a saucepan lid that came loose and after it cures I could throw it in the dishwasher.
Most of all it's fun working on repair ideas.

DIY Sync Port Cover

Hi

The K20D I purchased was missing a sync port cover. I know its not a big deal but thought I could make one with Sugru.
Sugru is a mouldable glue / clay which cures into a hard rubber in 24 hours. I was working on another mend project and
had left over Sugru so I applied it on Pentax. You don't want it to adhere to the sync port permanently so you need
to paint the area with liquid soap (I use dish washing liquid) - Sugru does not stick to surface with soap on it.

Made a small ball and pushed it into the port - you can't make a thread so it will just be held with friction. Yeah, it will most likely
fall out in time but could make another if this one gets lost.

Originally was working to repair a tear in the grip of my Fujifilm Bridge camera.
This one I want it to be permanent so didn't paint liquid soap. The Sugru will turn into
hard rubber in 24 hours. I should have use a black Sugru but I could live with Red accent.

Sigma 50mm f2.8 macro manual focus lens turned Sticky

I was eyeing the Sigma UC 70-210 because they are autofocus & quite affordable now. Knowing now its surface may turn into like an asphalt on a hot day I will skip it.
I have an old manual focus Tokina SD 70-210 which I'm currently using (its one of those Push/Pull varifocal zoom - where you focus while zooming. It had the Ricoh pin which I removed and now the aperture ring is stuck on "A" setting - can't move it into other apertures. Still works in "A" so I can live with that.
There are so many vintage lenses out there for Pentax K mount at low prices its fun trying them out.

Thank you for your comment. Yes, I hope the manufacturers learned and stop using this plastic / rubber material in current products. If there are vintage camera museums - I could imagine seeing a blob (what used to be a camera & lens) sitting in a display.

I found this image on the web - this is also Sigma lens with rubberized Zen Finish.

That's a cool image. What is it? Is that a wine glass? It reminds me of the show I was watching "The secrets of the Universe" where they visually explained the bending
of Space & Time:)

Yes, I like the Sigma 50 macro - it has an "A" setting so it works in all Auto modes with my Pentax. Plus, its a pretty sharp normal 50mm great for portraits and walkaround lens.

Hi

I haven't used this lens in a while and when I took it out the barrel turned into Tar. I used denatured alcohol & paper towel to get most of the sticky surface removed and ended up removing distance marker as well. Seems like whatever rubber like material Sigma used in their old lenses all turn sticky at some point.

Thank you so much for your comment, barondla . It was nostalgic to see them - growing up playing pinball at youth centers. Nowadays kids are on their smartphones and at arcades playing electronic games - they probably don't know or some may never have seen pinball machines. Just like cameras - they'll ask "What is Film?".

Thank you so much pjv. Now I know that it was an option in Japan. I recently purchased one with the indented grip and noticed when setting time zone it was set to Tokyo time zone so it was a Japan model.

Curious if anyone knows why there are some K20D (and I've seen the same on K10D) the finger grip design is different - if the ones with indentation was an early production or for a certain market (Europe & Asia perhaps) . Majority have the straight grip area. Pictures below.

One with indentation on the grip.

Most have this straight grip area.

The K-30 Black frame possible FIX!

Sorry to hear what you are going thru. You said your K30 has 4,500 shutter actuation - to me that's practically new. They already have your 20€ just to look at it so I'd go for the 90€ replacement on the diaphragm control block might as well. Pentax/Ricoh ought to bite the bullet and come forward with a Recall and fix affected K30/K50 free of charge. But they are sweeping the problem under a rug and keeping quiet. Grrrr! Hope you get your camera back and running quick.

I know exactly how you feel Richard.

Unfortunately I doubt there ever will be a recall as in Takata Automobile Airbag which affected multiple automakers.

Our problem will be swept under the rug while looking the other away.

For all of us who sent our camera in for repair - we don't know if the part they replaced is the same type and will eventually fail again...
They must know that the design of the diaphragm control block is the culprit. This same assembly units caused many K30s & K50s to fail.

Very nice and sharp. Are you using Lensbaby aperture disks to stop down the lens? I realize that Pentax 110 lenses are all f2.8 and 110 camera's leaf shutter controlled the aperture. Or is there an adapter with built in aperture control lever. Anyway, excellent shot.
