Interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing some of you images. Might sell me the idea of trying some digiscoping with my K-01

I liked the chair shot the most. Her skins looks more real, not overly smooth as some of the others. Anyways there are some great shots in this thread, keep sharing more!

Wow seems the new price for the K-01 really hit the sweet spot for a lot of folks. It's a great camera and I'm glad more folks are finding out about it. Maybe this shows that there is a space for this type of camera in the Pentax product line and newer models will follow up (with better initial prices) to succeeded the K-01.

Need is a strong word, the question is will you actually use it? Do you see scenarios were you just want to take a smaller camera + a limited? If yes go ahead! The K-01 is more then worth it's price.

The K-01 and the K-30 on CDAF are practically the same, but on PDAF the K-30 is faster and more reliable. The lastest firmware did a big improvement on the K-01 AF. It depends on your needs.

First thing is to ask yourself, do you really need a second body? The K-01 can really complement a K-5 (or the K-30 in my case) in term of use and size. With a nice limited it can be more pocketable (In my case, my wife's purse) and the type of camera you can take for all events, not when you just go out to shoot photos (which was my case with the K-r and later the K-30). Focus Peaking is also great for MF fun, and the lack of viewfinder didn't bother me so much (and I live in a place with a lot of sun), and it was also less intimidating when I hand the camera to someone else to take a picture. OVF is something strange for most folks nowadays.
Also the K-01 can take great pictures. The sensor is good and while the AF can leave you hanging at night, Focus Peaking saves the day. MF can be very fast with it.
I love my K-01 + my 21mm. Great shots, multi purpose focal length and I don't get stuck with crappy cel phone shots. Also when me and my wife go out shooting we each have a camera, so no more needing to wait your turn :) Same mount should mean you save money, but LBA can turn that around. Focus Peaking can also play a great part on MF LBA.

The part about the K-01 freezing up several times makes me think you got a bad copy. I had mine for several months and haven't had problems like those. I use it mostly for stills, but the videos I shot with it never crashed also. I use the video with manual settings so I can't comment on the program mode. I the blades to make noise. if you change it often. An option for that is to use an external mic.

My 21mm AF works very well with the K-01. It only hunts when I'm in low light situations. Focus Peaking made this be an non issue. Oh yeah, you said something about focus peaking now showing as much as you would like, have you trying using it together with the Screen Zoom? For thin DOF it's a wonderful thing. My 50mm f1.2 got a new life after I started using it with these options.

I think the K-30 is a better bang for you buck than the K-5 II/s, and a the K-01 is a great second camera. But I agree that you should wait for the reviews first. 5-10 days of waiting, shouldn't kill you :)

I have a K-01 and had a K-r, so I can also say you get better IQ and less noise on the K-01. The 40XS fits the K-r just fine (just looks a little bit funny the K-r with such a tiny lens). Also you really use more MF with it. Focus Peaking is great, and it will really make you use the AF less and less. It can really make you start looking to buy those wonderful old MF lens.
Never had a problem with the LCD, (and I live in Brazil, a very sunny place), SR is the same as the K-r, but I think that putting the palm of your left hand bellow it and you fingers on the lens you can make it more stable and slow down a bit you f speed if needed.
Oh yeah, the K-01 goes great with small limited primes. Those keep the overall size small and with great IQ to boot.

I second sahale's advice. The store should restock on the K-30 + 18-135mm kit shortly (it's probably the one that sells more I think), and it's better place to start. And even as you evolve in photography and dip your fingers in primes (it's a wonderful journey :)) a 18-135 will always be useful as a travel lens. Sometimes you and only bring one lens and a good zoom is very nice in these situations.

These shots were taken of a museum's roof using a K-01 with the 21mm limited and the camera's flash. They have such a different look to then that I though were worth posting. These are jpegs converted from raw with just some crop, no other PP. Desenho por lppires, no Flickr Luz e Sombra por lppires, no Flickr

Great shots! I also think the K-01 is great for handheld ground level shooting.
