Well, maybe not insane, but a bit weird.

I take the collection out now and then, but I haven't played checkers with it yet.
I know a guy close by who has a complete set of autofocus pentax, maybe I can play my manual focus against his?

I don't use the k1000 that much anymore btw.
I've become a bit lazy, so mostly I use either the K2 or the LX on automatic.

How much to Pay for a LX?

I bought a LX a month ago for 175 E, but it has all the problems you can expect: Sticky mirror, desintegrated foam and smudges on the ground glass.
I expect to spend at least as much for repair.
I hope it will be ready in a few weeks.
So 330 $ sounds like a good deal if the repairs aren't to expensive.

Black MX on eekbay

I paid 150 Euro's for mine last year.

It's been touched up a bit with black paint and two weeks ago the the winder lever fell off when I was a doing a few quick shots.
But... I love it. I've been shooting an average of a roll of illford every two weeks, alternating with my chrome MX which I load with color.

The dust specks and unwanted lines are of course due to my ineptitude with my scanner and photo editor.

Best thread I've read in a while.

Indeed why not make it compatible with the LX finders? I'm thinking waist-level.

Hi,

Great picture, like the color.

I just got me an LX, only it has all the problems I was hoping to avoid.
Sticky mirror, desintegrated rubbers and smudges on the ground glass.
Probably repairs will set me back as much as the selling price, but I got it at last.
Also the guy threw in a smc 135mm f2.5(I didn't even know it existed), a smc 70-200mm and a Rolleicord TLR.

About the handling.
Just yesterday got my new Winder, almost fully functional, only the rewind unlock won't work.
Feels very solid, not sure if it's useful when doing a little candid street photo's. Otherwise a good addition to the collection.

Only I just spoke to a professional artist who was very upset about polaroid film being discontinued.
He says he can't make his large format portraits without the polaroid shot in advance.

No contest. I just saw a 1983 BBC documentary about Ansel Adams, in which he is very excited about the possibilities of digital photography.
What would he be using today?

I see that my obsession with film SLR's is not only shared but dwarfed by many here.
I'm bidding on a LX, btw. Nice to see the Praktica users, the BC1 was my first real camera, I sold it :-(

I own:

Pentax:
MX(2), one black, these I use daily.
K2
K1000
ME
MV1 (It's basically a point and shoot with your favourite lenses)

And:
Agfa optima 335
Zorki 4

Maybe the amateurs will keep film alive.
There are of course different kinds of professionals, I like to think that real art is still made with a film camera.

Thanks Peter,
If I do an action shot of food cooking on my Big Green Egg or under the lamp in a restaurant, which are the hardest, I can't use indirect flash, the pictures don't come out right. If I use direct flash it comes out passable, but some food items get too shiny.
I did some wikipedia searching after your message, those softboxes aren't that expensive on ebay either.
Did you you mean you put your food in a softbox tent or did you use a softbox flash?
I could try and put my BGE in a tent ;)

Hello there,

Just logged in for the third time.

I own a batch of classic Pentax camera's and quite a few prime lenses.

I'm a Freelance Chef, working out of Rotterdam.
This means I get a little time walking around most of the country with my two MX's.
I mostly do portraits, buildings, kitchen staff in action and restaurant interiors on my tripod.
I want to learn about capturing food, it's pretty difficult. Almost as difficult as preparing it ;-)

Just started using B&W film and doing a 15 day course in a local Photoschool.
Pretty excited about that.

I'm also contemplating the K20d, but I might wait a bit longer.

Groeten,
Jeroen

Ahem.. I had the same problem and it was the voltage of my batteries, I used two 1,4 V where you should use the 1,55 V varta or at least a 1,5 V.
Stupid, I know, but it might help you

I actually sold my nikon FE to buy my black (second) MX.
It makes sense with the wealth of K-mount lenses I have..
