Gawd! The MonoChrome is a Crop Sensor body? I should have read more closely. I assumed that it used on a full frame body.

My K3 is Dropping the Date

That seems odd, in that my (slightly) older K5IIs still retains the date. I was wondering if it was an internal battery.

My K3 doesn't retain the date information when changing the battery. It wasn't always like this. It and my K5IIs would always keep up to date after swapping batteries. Now when I change the battery in the K3, I need to change the date as well.

How To: Convert SDM to ScrewDrive + Video

OMG....Thank guys so much! My 50-135mm is working again!
I did it with a Mac and a K5IIs and only using a SD card, and it took less time than it would have to dig out my Pentax USB cable. It worked with the first try.

Previously, I thought that taping over the contacts or removing the contacts all together (do not think of the movie Airplane!) would solve the problem, but it didn't. With the contacts removed, the camera still thinks it's an SDM lens.

Once again, thank you so much! I have golf shoot this weekend and I really need it for that. I had a golf shoot a month ago, and was able to slide by without it because the majority of shots were not the action shots.

This is my most expensive lens, and it's great to have it working again. It's part of a troika of lenses for my pro work, with the other two being the 17-50mm Sigma 2.8, and a 10-20mm f/4-5.6 Sigma

This is BOGUS! I bought my 50-135 in 2014. I also bought a 3-year extended warranty because I read all the reports of the AF motors falling. Mine failed with a month left on the warranty. I never used the lens much. It was special, like "the good towels".
A couple of months ago it died AGAIN.
I thought, "OH, I'll just put some tape over the AF contacts! Then it'll work with the screw drive!" Then I noticed that the contacts are easy to remove. It didn't use the screw drive after I removed the AF contacts. I'll be trying the firmware hack.

Pentax knows of the problem. They should make a firmware update for those that have the problem. The 50-135 is my most expensive lens. I paid around a $1000 for it. It sucks that Pentax does nothing to help the loyal customers.
Let's have a class action lawsuit!

AF problem with DA 50-135mm on K20D

Bought my 50-135mm in 2014. I read about the AF motor problems, so I bought a 3-year extended warranty. The AF died 2 years, 11 months after that, and it was repaired. The motors just died again. I'm planning to put tape over the AF contacts.
I never used it much. As my most expensive lens, I thought of it as, "The Good Towels", something that's used only for special occasions.

Thanks for the manual!

---------- Post added 09-30-22 at 09:17 AM ----------

The User Mode of the PZ-1p:
Easy picture taking mode only for Programmed AE mode. When the lens aperture ring is set to other than A position, only the Aperture-priority AE mode is available.
For other available functions, see page 21. However, the desired exposure modes and other functions can be set when [User Mode] function is set at this position.

The Green Mode of the PZ-1:
Green position (for easy picture taking in either Programmed AE or Aperture-Priority AE mode).

What is, how do you use the "User Mode" of the Pentax PZ-1p?
I've got the manual for the PZ-1 from the Butkus site, but the middle spot of the Off/On button on that camera is for the "Green Mode". On the PZ-1p, it's labeled "User Mode".

It's always been like this, and I bought the lens in 2014. It takes a long time for the camera to generate an image with this lens and this lens only. It might take 10 seconds to see your shot with this lens on either of my cameras. With any other lens on it and you'll only wait a second.
I've put up with it. Has anyone else experienced this?

The K-70 would be a good upgrade for the *ist DS that I currently use as my everyday camera.
I use a K5IIs and a K3 for work.

---------- Post added 12-08-21 at 09:38 PM ----------

I took this from the Laserdisc.

I guess I really don't need the camera, after reading the "Honor system" part of the rules.

That's a nice camera. I've used both the Sf10 & Sf1
I've got one of the premium models from that time, but I've never had the chance to use it.

I saw it at a Goodwill tonight. I immediately assumed that it was for a Nikon or Canon. Though the "FGZ" did remind me of model numbers for Pentax flashes, I brushed that thought aside. I have a smaller Pentax flash (320?), but it's lack of power, and cracked body keep me from using it.

I can't believe my luck.
I saw and bought a speedlight thinking that it must be for a Canon or Nikon (but I could use it in "Manual").....
BUT IT'S FOR A PETAX!!!!!

how rare is it to find Pentax gear in the wild?

"Shy" Aperture lever ~*FIXED!!!*~

This is a push-pull lens. Doesn't that action suck in dust? This lens doesn't have much dust in it. I wonder if this has been used at all due to the problem, which might have come from the factory.

---------- Post added 11-21-21 at 04:48 AM ----------

This lens looks pretty good, and the reviews agree. I can't wait to fully try it out tomorrow.

"Shy" Aperture lever ~*FIXED!!!*~

I FIXED IT! YAY!
I'm usually afraid of opening a lens (once I tried and springs popped out when I opened one).
So, being very careful, I opened it up, making sure that the area would prevent screws from rolling away.
After looking at it, and seeing how the parts worked and fit together, I noticed something really strange.
The circular piece that has the external Aperture lever, and the interior Aperture lever fits into the inside of the chrome mount similar to how the lens fits onto the camera body. It couldn't go on because a pin that prevents the piece from coming off, prevented it from being put back on. The pin is also an anchor point for Aperture lever spring. Unscrewing and removing the pin allow me to put the circular piece back on.
I think this is the first time I've fixed a lens. I wonder how the lens got this way in the first place? The pin would have to be removed and replaced for this problem to be created.

"Shy" Aperture lever ~*FIXED!!!*~

I picked up two items today that had problems with the Aperture lever.
One was a Promaster Spectrum 7 MC 2X KPR ($2.50). I was able to fix that with a pair of pliers.
The other one is a Vivitar (Cosina) 28-210 Macro Focusing Zoom 3.5-5.6 ($3)
Now, with this one the lever sinks into the lens body. Hold it upside down and you can see it when it falls into place, but during normal use, it retreats into the body. This prevents the aperture from opening.
Have you run into this before?

This is an Olympus camera power supply that works with the *ist DS. I bought it today. I saw one months ago, but didn't buy it, because I had just bought a no-name 6.5 volt PS. That one didn't work though. It must not have output enough power. Taking a picture with that connected, caused the shutter to act like a machine gun.
Today I was at a thrift shop that I rarely go into, and found this power supply
