On a K-3 the 20-35 is basically a full frame 28-50 equivalent…light weight, excellent color and resolution. I like using it in manual.

I still have an FA 20-35 that I use regularly. The DA 20-40 has tempted me greatly. An addition to my 4 Limited lenses I now own (15,20,35,70).

My film equipment is: two rangefinders from the 50's....a Nikon S3 and a Nikon SP with 2.8cm f/3.5, 3.5cm f/1.8, 5.0cm f/1.4, 13.5cm f/4.0. I have owned Leica in the past and the old Nikon rangefinders (both bodies and lenses) are every bit as good as Leica M-3 etc. The 3.5 f/1.8 is legendary.
Next?...I want a K-3 Monochrome and DA Limited 20-40...very tempting combo for street photography.

I only wish I could use my vintage Nikon rangefinder lenses on my Pentax body. Still, I love my “old” K-3, my 4 Limited lenses (15,20,35,70) and 2 zooms (FA 20-35 as nd DA18-135). I’m yearning for a monochrome. I’ve owned Spotmatic, KM, MX,LX. Over 50 years of Pentax

I’m in Austin too. K3 w/ a FA30-35, DA18-135, 4 Limiteds, 15,20,35,70.
I also use vintage Nikon rangefinder S3 and SP. I guess I’m unusual.

I use vintage Gitzo and Bogen legs. Been good servants since early 80’s. My favorite “tripod” though is a Leitz mini- pod with their large ball head. Great for night time street shots. You can brace it on your chest, a wall or any solid surface.

Have you noticed how there is big interest in adapters for vintage lenses…Nikon, Contax, Leica, and Canon rangefinder lenses can now be used on Sony, Fuji, Nikon, etc mirrorless bodies. Vintage lenses can still be used on the newest mirrorless bodies. Many videographers explore the look vintage glass provides

Don’t make large prints, 24mp is plenty… true for me. My K-3 w/ DA 18-135, FA 20-35, and Limiteds 15, 21, 35 macro, & 70 is all I will ever need. In my 55 years of photography I have had many film cameras everything from 35mm to 8x10. Home darkroom closed now except for developing and scanning the occasional roll of b&w taken with my 66 y/o Nikon S3 and SP. a fully manual film camera is still a great tool for great pictures. Nothing is truly obsolete. Heck, there are still artists out there making tintypes, albumen prints etc.

The DA 15 Limited seems to be the equivalent lens for the K3. The perspective, color, sharpness etc is excellent.

Is a new film camera still on the horizon? Nikon revived interest in their S3 and SP in early 2000s but failed to continue. My first SLR was a K- mount Mamiyaflex in 1969.. a K-mount. Next was a Spotmatic. A modern film body would be a great encore to the K-3 iii Monochrome.

Perhaps one of my most used lenses on my K3 is a FA 20-35. Great walk-around lens.

I love all the LTD’s…I have a 15, 21, 35, & 70. I also have a 20-35 FA that is one of my walking around choices. I keep thinking I should replace with a 20-40 Ltd, but the FA can be used all manual on my K3.

People make a big mistake buying a “lightweight” tripod. I also remind young photographers that 90% of all the photos you will take can be done one one. Currently I own a Gitzo, a Leitz and a Bogen (heaviest at about 14 lbs). ---------- Post added 07-18-23 at 08:23 PM ---------- A Leitz table-top with their large ball head makes for a fabulous set to rest on your chest.

I just finished my set: 15, 21, 35 macro, 70. All are SMC green rings. My other lenses are my 18-135 an FA 20-35 which has been a favorite walk around since film days. I’ve never been a long telephoto guy.

My K3 is near 10 years old with less than 10K shutter count. Does everything I need with the fine SMC Limited lenses and even a 20-35 that works great on ASP-C. Right now I am looking at a Leica Q2 or even a new Q3...Still use my 65 y/o Nikon S3 for b&w film.
I was in my favorite camera store (Precision Camera and Video in Austin TX) and they said the Ricoh rep was just in showing the new K3 iii Monochrome. First time they have seen the rep in a while, perhaps because the store no longer stocks Ricoh/Pentax. Their reps haven't given the attention they get from Nikon/Canon/Fuji in a very long time.

Looks like a 15mm will be coming my way. One thing I like about the Limited series is they all take 49mm filter. I can carry the three small Limiteds, camera body and accessories in my small F-10 Domke bag. I got used to a compact kit when I used Leicas. I still have and use a Nikon S3 rangefinder with three lenses for when I feel like shooting a roll of film.

So true. I actually have SMC Limiteds. Yes, I am leaning towards the 15. Might as well get the green ring SMC version and make it a trio.

I have two Limited lenses at present, a 70 and a 35 macro. I have an FA 20-35 which works well as a walk-around. I also have my DA 18-135 that came with my K3. I have been thinking about adding either a 21 or 15 then I could have three possible kits (18-135 by its self, 20-35 and 70 together, or 70/35/with a 21 or 15. I am thinking the 15 as it would pair with the 20-35 better. I do everything but sports.

Reminds me of a pro photographer who went on an African safari and took nothing larger than a 105 mm lens and 100asa film and got far better photographs than all those wielding 300’s and longer with “fast” film.

Give us the right tool for the job and an operator trained to use it. I wouldn’t bring out my 8x10 night time candids on the streets, though I do know of someone who has done it… hand held at that.
