I really don't have any experience with manual lenses (other than turning off AF when messing around) - with my wife wanting a basic "point and shoot" I don't think the manual lens route would work for this purpose. Seems like everyone is in agreement in getting a prime rather than a zoom. Right?

I just upgraded to the K5 from the K100D. My current lens lineup is:
18-55mm kit lens (came with K100D)
DA 50-200mm
FA 50 1.4
It goes without saying that I am most pleased with the FA 50. The IQ is incredible and the lens is fast. I'm planning on selling the K100D (with the kit lens). The only "problem" i have with the FA 50 is that i often-times am too close to the subject to capture the full image. So I was consider if I should get another good prime lens (maybe the DA 35 or 40) or get a good walk-around zoom lens (like the Sigma 24-70 or Tamron 28-75).
My primary focus with the new lens would be shooting while going on hikes / family & kids / etc. I'm a novice and don't have that extensive of a budget (probably $250 max for a used lens).
Would appreciate any insight. Thanks

Hey guys, thanks for the quick responses. I guess I didn't give enough info in my original post. I currently have the kit lens and the da 50-200 lens. By shutter speed I mean that the fps is slow for faster activities.
What I typically take pics of are my kid(s) and scenery.
Would it be better to get good lenses then?

Hey All,
My wife and I are having our second kid in the next couple weeks so I was thinking of upgrading my K100D to a newer model. I'm not an expert by any means in photography or equipment but have been very pleased with the camera I have. The reason I want to "upgrade" is due to the shutter speed, megapixels and low light capabilities (plus the idea of a dSLR taking video is pretty enticing). Anyway - I'm thinking I can get anywhere from $150 - $200 for the K100D with the stock lense and will have roughly $550 - $600 to spend. I don't mind buying used at all. Can you guys give some direction of which models of Pentax I should be looking at? Would it be better to spend $400 on a body and then buy a $200 lense?
Much appreciated - George

Hey Bob,
Believe it or not but we were literally the only ones walking around Fairplay this particular morning. Our boy was taking a nap so we had some time to kill before our hike - so we drove out there and snapped some pics. This part of Colorado is quite something.
Thanks for asking,
George

We recently took a trip to Colorado. I'm definitely a newbie when it comes to photography so looking for constructive feedback for better imaging. (coloring, angle, and anything else you can think of).
Thanks

It's pretty clear I have a lot of learning to do. This has probably been asked a hundred times on here - but can anybody point me to a good book/video tutorial for digital photog? Admittedly, the majority of my shots are done on Auto Scn mode. I'd like to start incorporating some more control over pictures. I have a basic understanding of aperature, shutter speed, etc but not enough to be comfortable with it. Thanks - George

you guys are all so helpful. I appreciate all the insight/advice. I guess worst case scenario if I buy a lens I don't like, I can always sell it.
Thanks again

Thanks for the info - perhaps I'll stick to the Pentax lenses. Hopefully it won't take too long to track a few down.

AWESOME!!! Thanks for the advice. Am I correct that most (if not all) the Pentax lenses fit the K100D?
I will look at the marketplace.
Thanks again - George

Hi All,
New to the forums. A few years back I picked up the K100D and the standard lens that came with the body. I've wanted to pick up some additional lenses but have no clue the direction to go. i have an 11 month old son who is definitely the focus of the majority of my photography interests...wildlife & nature would make up the balance. Yesterday I went to the Rocky Mountain National Park and realized quickly that this one lens wouldn't cut it if I wanted some good shots.
Obviously the budget is the biggest factor for which lenses to purchase so I don't mind buying used. I'd like to get a good "zoom" lens and a good low light lens.
Max I'd be able to spend right now is probably $200/lens.
Any suggestions or advice as to what I should look at?
Thanks much,
George
