The near complete lack of chroma noise in the ISO3200 100% crop is impressive.

Sure makes for a great headline: "Pentax introduces 20fps 14.6 MP DSLR ... for $1300"
(However misleading that may be.)

I was thinking maybe coupled with the reported phenomenal high ISO performance performance, this would make for so nice candid night shots ... but the low-light AF is still below par.
Anyway, who am I kidding, I'd love to get my hands on one just to look at the IQ (not going to happen on a poor grad student's stipend, but I do love my K100D).
Sure the burst mode is a gimmick, but it's not being overly emphasized and, if you think about it, it is pretty darn cool.

Even if you accepted the relatively low framerate, it'll only be good for 5.5 second clips, and no sound.
(I realize, of course, that you were being facetious.)

http://www.pentaximaging.com/footer/news_media_article?ArticleId=10507458 FTA:
"When switched to the new high-speed advance mode, the user may capture up to approximately 115 images at the speed of approximately 21 images per second.*
* The image size is fixed at 1.6 megapixels in the Burst Shooting mode."
A bit disappointing to those where were expecting to vary the fps:MP ratio dynamically to something more useful.
Thoughts on where 1.6MP images shot at 20 fps might come in handy?

YES!
Only 1.6 MP JPGs, it seems, but YES!
If I were a sports photographer for a newspaper (where resolution isn't all that important), this, coupled with the new fast telephotos, would really make me rethink my Canikons.

Is that a "Burst Mode" with 20fps in the German press release?

Hm, that last comment was interesting. So at the same focal length and aperture, the Sigma (apparently) lets in less light?

I'll second the vote for the Sears 135mm f/2.8. I picked it up on eBay for $25 (incl. shipping) and, though it's my first manual lens, the results have been nothing short of outstanding from day one. Couple with a cheap set of macro extender tubes, and you've got a decent setup for less than $50. (For an even higher mag. ratio, there are some cheap 80-200mm f/4 lenses floating around on eBay with pseudo-macro modes that, when coupled with the extension tubes, give very high magnification ratios and focal distances less than four inches).

Thanks BrianK, that really helped.
Can I put you on the spot and ask which one you'd choosr between the 70-300 and the Pentax 50-200, especially for low light?

Thanks for the reply dkittle, I appreciate it.
I think the optical compromises + price that come with the 18-250 maybe be a bit too much to pay for the convenience.
AF performance was actually one of the pros I had listed for the 50-200 - I'm glad you told me they're not immune to problems either.
The price sure is right for the Tamron 70-300, and the 1:2 mag ratio looks quite tempting. Then again I do like macros with dark backgrounds and silhouettes, so still worried about the purple fringing.
If only the Pentax had an aperture ring, I wouldn't have to think so much!
Any opinions on the two sigma 28-200s?
