Both of these lenses are only about $130 on Amazon, and both seem to be well reviewed there. Anyone have any reason I might prefer one over the other?

K100D Super and Battery Life

If you already bought fully charged rechargeables, then that is what everyone is recommending to you. I had the same problem, and after buying several sets of Kodak pre-charged recharegables, I get great battery life out of them (hundreds of shots). I still get the battery indicator showing half life, etc, but it just keeps going, and after turning it off for a minute, it will usually show full again.

The precharged/low discharge type like the Eneloop, Kodak, Rayovac, etc just have a more stable characteristic than the older rechargeable types do.

I originally had problems with batteries, but I've purchased several sets of the Kodak precharged/low discharge type rechargeable and they have excellent characteristics in the k100d.

Where to get service

The warranty says return to the place of purchase, but I wonder if i could take it to any Pentax retailer. I bought mine from an online sight, and it would be simpler for me to take it to Ritz or somewhere like that if possible. Anyone have any idea about this?

Thanks

Nikon flash on Pentax

My daughter was taking pictures of a band, and when a friend saw she was using the cameras built in flash, he gave her his Nikon flash. It worked. I thought you had to use a Pentax specific flash for it to work. Whats the deal?

Opinion/experience with cheap flash

I need a flash for a k100d super. It's my daughters. I have the k100d. I would be happy with the Pentax 360 flash, but my daughter likes to turn the camera for portraits, and the 360 doesn't swivel side to side. The 540 fits the bill, but is too expensive. Im wondering how good these ones on ebay are that sell for little over $100. They are called "digital." They swivel in bother directions, but are they a waste of money?

Another question, I saw a 540 on ebay. What is the life expectancy of a flash gun? Is it too risky to buy one used?

Thanks for any replies!

K100d- Not Taking Pictures

I'm not sure if the camera is defective, or if Im doing something wrong, so I thought I'd run it by the forum before I contact Pentax. I bought this right before Christmas, and as of yet, it still has very little use. But lately, when I turn it on, it will focus and flash, and do everything it supposed to do when taking a picture. But then nothing shows up on the the lcd screen, and when I go to review pictures, there is blank spaces where there should be pictures. In other words, it will show that I have 5-10- or 20 pictures, but it's all just black screen.

Funny thing is, after trying to reset everything, I finally came across the lens cleaning function (this is not the Super, it's not supposed to be there). When I opt for this in the menu, turn the camera off and on again, it starts taking pictures properly. Weird, huh? But if I turn it off and on a second time, I'm back to getting blank screens for shots. Any ideas?

Precharged Rechargeables?

Some of these batteries are being bundled with chargers, but they are the same chargers as they bundled with their other batteries. By all accounts that I have read, any charger will do, even the 15 minute ones.

Thank you for the responses (and for the welcomes earlier in the thread). Yes these are the hybrid type. I was interested in eneloops, but in other places on the web, people are saying the difference in performance between the various brands of this new type of battery is negligible. So, that makes the Kodaks at 7.88 a pack a real value, especially since most places online want $10 a pack plus shipping.

These kodaks are encoded "7H".

My two chargers are opposite ends of the spectrum. One is a 15 minute Eveready crash and burn affair that rejects most batteries. The other is an older Rayovac, that although very slow, actually appears to be a "smart" charger in that it charges cells individually, their designated LED lights going off at different times.

I wanted the Lacrosse charger, but at $40, plus the four packs of batteries I just picked up, it was too much for now. Why do I always seem to find so many great things to buy for myself during the Christmas season? I struggle with what to get others, and have to restrain from spending on myself!

Precharged Rechargeables?

Well, at the recommendation of some here, and several at other forums, I went out and bought four sets of Kodak 2100 LSD batteries.
I just put them into my K100d and after one shot, the battery indicator went to half, and after playing with the focus a few minutes, before firing a second shot, the camera turned off; "battery depleted."
This is really frustrating. Now if I leave it set a minute or so, I can fire off a couple shots. I measured the voltage on these before loading them. all four batteries measured 1.3 volts.
I put them into a slow charger for now, and I will check how they work later.

This tells me two things; 1. The K100d is WAY too picky, and 2. The precharged nature of this style battery isn't worth much, at least not to Pentax users.

Anyone try the new precharged rechargeable batteries from Sanyo or any of the others in a k100d? So far, I've just been using some Energizer NIMH batteries (2500's and 2200's) to try out the camera, and they seem not last long at all.
I am interested in any battery recommendations!

Thanks

Memory Card Speed Advantage?

Will the k100d, or the k100d super take advantage of a faster memory card? I thought I saw a posting somewhere that said it didn't matter. There are a lot of sales on medium speed chips, but I would hold out for a faster chip if it made a difference, particularly in the time it takes to upload to the computer.
