Are you sure the batteries are low/dead, or are you just getting the indication from the camera that this is the case? If you do a little hunting here you will find other posts that once you switch to eneloops the camera will take pictures as it is intended, 500 or more. Something to do with the camera conditioning itself to a certain voltage... but eneloops are your answer.
How did you initially test it with no card? My K100D will not turn on without a card inserted. Anyhow, get a set of eneloops, you'll have a new camera.

I think you are the perfect example of a "boomer" photographer. Like you, I had my passion for it, then found it was too much trouble/not enough time/no room, to set up a darkroom. Wife, kids, etc, took priority. Then - digital came along!
I have taken more digital pix in the last 6 years than I took in all the years my 3 kids were growing up. Got the important ones, but just out of obligation and not desire.
Ain't it fun again??? Welcome!

I am currently looking at the exact same thing, and am leaning toward the Metz. It also has a USB port for updates. Might be useful if and when I upgrade to another Pentax DSLR in the future.
Hope some of the current users of these flashes can chime in to compare. After investing a great deal of money on a camera, I don't think price on an accessory should be a deciding factor, though.

I have an original 90 degree viewer from my Spotmatic, and it does not fit my K100D. I was wondering if it could be modified, but haven't fooled with it yet.
I don't know when the slot on the viewfinder changed, but was really dissapointed to see it not just slide on.

Bought my first Pentax black body at the same PX in 1970. Took a hundred rolls of slides (or so it seemed) and sent them in the prepaid mailers to Rochester to be developed and forwarded to the folks in the States. Never saw a single picture I took until I got home on leave!
You are among the most knowledgable people around, you'll have a wealth of info here.

If you have any filters mounted on the lens, remove them. Try to duplicate the same conditions again and repeat your examples. Filters and digital lenses do not always play nice.

I'm usually"talked into" doing people pictures. I understand my limitations, decide I won't do it, and then cave in. Gee, I've got all this great equiptment, I've read a hundred books and I understand the basics, what 's so hard?
Some of the greatest sports coaches never played the game, and although I know what to do, I don't know how to do it properly. You are not alone. People (posed) are the most difficult subject to do. I'm with you, my hat's off to the pros. Thank goodness for the "endless roll of film" we have.

Another vote for the grip. If you set the camera to auto select it will use the battery with the strongest charge first, then switch to the other one when necessary automatically. 2 batteries will probably give you 1000 shots or more. And you can buy a Minolta NP 400 battery (1700Mah) instead of the genuine Pentax battery for under $20.
If you use a tele, you won't want to be without the grip.

Thanks again, Ben. I have written to Eric and will let him give me an estimate first. I would prefer a pro repair. I don't know which element, more visible from front , but behind front glass.
Wildlifephotog, I'm actually in the major metropolis of Hartsgrove (gas station, bar, restaurant, road kill) so I can assume you live near-by. 3/4 mile east of the circle at 534, tan ranch, split rail fence; the old fart on the tractor cutting grass when the weather permits.
Coffee is always hot. sometimes old, but hot.

Thanks, Ben. I'll do a more complete search. I used to be a tool and die maker, so the repair might not be too difficult for me. It's the ancient eyes! I'll be sure to post a reply if the operation is successful. You can't break what doesn't work, right?
I've read about leaving it out in the sun on a hot day, but it just seems like abuse of the lens to me.

Hello, all! I have the usual collection of screwmount lenses from the 60's/70's and all are in excellent "adult driven" condition except my 135/3.5. All have had the same storage, care, etc but this one has a bloom of fugus on an internal element. Watching the fleabay auctions, it doesn't seem to command much of a price but I was more concerned about using it, cleaning it, or whatever to retain it.
I have shot a number of pictures with it on my K20D, and to these old eyes it still looks like a keeper. I'm not a pixel peeper, but the image quality will probably increase with a clean lens, so what would it take to get it cleaned? Who/where to send it?

Another "defector" says HELLO, I think you will see most of your friends here soon. I'm looking forward to more photography and less "political correctness" here, as that is why we are Pentaxians. Can't wait for old smilin' Don to join us....

Moving from a Rollei 2.8D with 120 Tri-X, to a K20D with many gigs and a newer computer. Might as well jump in with both feet. I've been a lurker for ages, but it's time to join the forum.
I understand the population of this forum might rise considerably after Sunday...
