Chinon 55mm 1.4 M42 Asking Price
£30 Item Location
London (UK) Item Description
Chinon 55mm 1.4 lens in M42 fit. Condition is good optically, but aperture ring is a little stiff.
A great lens for bokeh, and surprisingly sharp. I'll chuck in an m42 to K adaptor, but it's just a cheapy one so I cannot guarantee infinity focus with that adaptor. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

Pentax 50mm A 1.7 Asking Price
£30 Item Location
London (UK) Item Description
A Pentax A 50mm 1.7 lens, condition is pretty good, aperture ring is not smooth, but I always used it on the A setting anyway for better integration with a modern DSLR. Optically is very good, a bit of dust, but no fungus or anything, takes good sharp images. Comes with lens cap, but cannot find mount cap. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

Pentax 15mm DA Limited in UK Asking Price
£320 Item Location
London (UK) Item Description
A Pentax 15mm DA Limited lens, condition is perfect, I've examined the lens and can't see a single mark on it. It's complete with screw-on lens cap, mount cap, pouch, box and instructions, basically, as one would but it new.
It's a fantastic lens, I'm just moving away from digital back to film photography. The build quality is lovely to behold, and I'll be sad to see it go!
A UK buyer is preferred, and payment by PayPal is required. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

Got my shims! If you are in the UK, or maybe even the rest europe, try the service department of Johnsons photopia (JPSS), they were able to get the full selection of washers/shims.
Installed the 0.2 one as advised, and it seems to have done the job! I managed to bend the shim taking it out the plastic bag, they are very delicate, but they bend back, so no biggie. Installation is unpleasant, but if you have steady hands, it's possible for the layman like myself.
Results are promising, close up, wide open at 1.7, focus is nailed, at distance, im not sure, it could be my eyes, it could be a couple of inches front focussing, but, I suspect a magnifying eyepiece might fix this, a lifetime in front of a computer has left me with suboptimal eyesight.
Thanks for all the help here!
Cheers

Really lovely, I like the moon in the picture, tiny detail, but important I think.

I use the 15mm, and it's a lovely little lens, but I doubt it would be hugely sharper the the 16-45 when both stopped down, the 15mm is great, but I think one buys it for it's build quality, it's size/weight, rather than it's optical qualities (if you already have a wide option that is, if you didn't then it's a fantastic buy.)

I'm using the DA 15mm, and although I've not really compared it to other lenses, it does seems very good stopped down, and slightly soft wide open. The greatest things about the DA 15 is it's size, it's tiny, well built and a pleasure to behold. I used to use a Sigma 10-20mm, a great lens, but a pain to lug around with me.

OK, for anyone who is still interested, I've ordered the full set of shims from jpss.co.uk, the Pentax UK repair people, delivery should be 10-14 days, so fingers crossed!

Similar problem in the UK, I've contacted a couple of possible shim suppliers, but no luck so far.

I've contacted the official Pentax service people in the UK, so I'll see if they have them. If not, then I may give up, I just want to take photos really, fiddling with cameras isn't really my thing.

Hi JohnBee and DogLover,
Thanks for the suggestions, I think a 0.2 sounds about right, if it's front focussing with the stock (0.4?) and back focussing with no shim at all, the somewhere in the middle makes sense.
I'd like to send to KatzEye, but as a UK resident, it's not really practical, so I think the best way would be to source a 0.2 shim in the UK, any ideas where I can get one from?
I've popped the screen in and out a couple of times, and I'm OK with doing it, the shim seems more fiddly, but i guess it's less fragile, so I don't really mind.
Cheers!

Hmm, turns out I was mistaken, the stock shim IS there, it just wasn't what I thought it was. I removed the shim, and now it's back focussing rather than front. I'm starting to think a good solution would be to just buy an AF lens, and it's not worth the hassle!
Cheers

I think the stock shim may be the problem, there wasn't one. I bought the K7 used (from this forum incidentally), and there wasn't a shim in it when I replaced the stock focussing screen. The previous owner used a 3rd party screen, so I guess it must have gone missing then.
Will need to track down a shim in the UK i guess.

Hi,
I've just installed a KatzEye on my K7, the installation was fairly easy, and the viewfinder image is clear. However, when I focus on something using the split prism, the resulting photo isn't in focus, in fact, it's quite a bit off, even when I stop down my lens to say 5.6, it's not right.
I'm using a Pentax A 50mm 1.7, when close focusing, I'd say it's front-focusing by about an inch, but at distance, say 30ft, it's way, way off.
Can I buy shims (I'd rather not buy from KatzEye, as I'm based in the UK, not US)?
Is it normal for it to be quite a bit off before shimming?
Thanks for any advice.
