@jamarley - I agree with you (and others) that Pentax needs to do a better job of marketing and getting their cameras in the brick and mortar stores. Before purchasing my K-5, I called around to all the local camera stores within 60 miles of where I live and could not find a single one who carried Pentax cameras. The nearest store I could find was 107 miles away. Fortunately, I was willing to purchase my K-5 on-line without having seen one in person. Additionally, as a Pentax owner, I would like to have a local camera shop that was familiar with Pentax.

I too upgraded from a K-r to K-5 and it is very similar but has a lot more features. I am so glad I upgraded. This K-5 is such an improvement over my K-r. I am still learning about all that it can do. I put a Pentax SMC DA 18-135mm F/3.5-5.6 ED AL (IF) DC WR Lens to start with and to learn the ins and outs of the camera and I love it. I also have several other lenses that I will be trying out as well once I familiarize myself with the camera. I am thinking about buying the book Magic Lantern Guide for K-7 (they don't have one for the K-5) because I have read that the K-7 was similar enough to be helpful to people new to K-5.

I previously owned a K-x and then a K-r and recently purchased the K-5. I have to admit that when I was doing my research prior to buying the K-5, everything pointed to the clear decision that the K-5 was the best choice (not to mention the fact that I had acquired a few lenses that would be compatible). However, the few times when I have taken my K-x or K-r with me to weddings or other places where there would be professional photographers, they would look quizzically at my camera and say something like "Pentax? I've never heard of them." or "Pentax? I didn't think they made those anymore." I admit that this caused me to feel the pressure to conform by jumping on board with the Canon folks. I wavered a little, but I am so glad that I did not go over to the dark side and I stuck with Pentax. I LOVE my new K-5 and it has exceeded my expectations. Just yesterday I ran into a couple of film students who initially looked at my camera with interest. One says, "Oh, whose camera is that?" Before I could answer the other said, "It's a Pentax. I didn't even think they made those anymore."
I don't care what they think, I LOVE MY PENTAX! :D

Actually, once I found out that this is a common problem (design flaw), I felt better about my new camera. I was just originally worried that I had one that was somehow defective. Overall, so far, I am loving this camera.

I just got my new K5 today and noticed that the card was extremely hard to remove. I have had a Kx and Kr and neither one has ever given me any problem like that. I have to admit, it has shaken my confidence a little. I may end up exchanging it if it does not get smoother/easier to remove over the next week or so of using it.

I really appreciate having this site to come to for research and information on lenses and cameras. I wish I had discovered this before I purchased my lenses. I look forward to learning even more.
