I'm not complaining about the original moderation although how you and the mod are reading it is wrong, but whatever. I talking about the stupidity of the mod after that. The childish docking of points? Come on, I didn't even know that existed. That it exists is just so far over the line, it is beyond words. Especially the way it was used. Talk about small ***** syndrome. I'm pretty much done with this site after finding out that you have this system in place. I just can't take this site seriously anymore.

Appeal? I think people should know this stupidity goes on. I also think it is a technical problem because if this is an example of the moderation, it clearly isn't working. After all, why are you deleting my posts unless you are ashamed of the behavior being demonstrated by the mod?

Thank you

GPS Tracking Devices

My thing about having a GPS specifically for photos is that if I am actually using a GPS to get around, I don't want to use that GPS for something trivial like tracks. I know most people want a track to backtrack on, but I personally prefer to carry a map and really just want a GPS to tell me where I am when I need it. I can figure out the rest. A navagation GPS goes on for a couple of minutes and then off until needed again.

I understand what people are saying about dual use and in most cases that's pretty smart, but when I actually need a GPS instead of it being merely a convenience, I want to play it safe.

Nikkei rankings of "beginner" cameras in Japan

I thought the list about ranking what is the best product for the application, people moving up from a P&S, not by what has the most sales? I also think none of the features that make a camera good for someone moving up from a P&S has anything to do with the country of origin. If you are right, the list posted seems to be only good for lining the bird cage or training the puppy,

Will superglue or epoxy fix the flash mount?

Buy a Sigma 530 Super or the new Sigma 630 Super to use while the Metz is being repaired. When you get the Metz back, you'll have a two flash system, where the Sigma can be master/controller to the Metz slave. This will get you wireless HSS, plus a two flash setup with the on board as master/controller.

Help picking a carrier for iPhone

LTE is the next next technology that all carriers are going to. Unless Apple is deploying its own network, I think it will march along with everyone else.

I'm not sure what the appeal of the iPhone over Android is at this point however. For people invested in other Apple products, it probably has integration features, but for usability, I don't see much difference, pluses and minuses for choosing either. I would just go with whatever carrier has the better network where you will be using your phone most. This rule of thumb hasn't changed since 1995, except when the blackberry and the iphone changed how people used the networks. It pretty much has reached equilibrium again, IMO and now is more about how much is it going to cost.

shoot-through camera bag

I wonder if it would make a good blimp? It would need something on the lens to act as a sound break and close off the bottom. I'm think a piece of 6mm foamie cut to the shape of the bag with a hole cut for the lens. Attaching it to the lens would allow zoom use as it would slide in an out with the lens. Maybe line the bag around the lens and the top flap with some extra sound absorbing material. Probably would need to cut hole in the top flap to be able to use the finder with the flap closed.

Not an answer, but one of the better ideas I've heard lately is to download pdf manuals to your smart phone. When you think about manuals for your camera, flash, intervalometer, GPS, ...

Wireless remote control

I went with the RF-602 for a combination of radio flash trigger and use as a remote shutter. I probably would go with the Meike MK-RC7 today if I was buying. They just weren't around when I bought the RF-602.

Edit: I didn't see the date of the first post was posted, nor did I see that you were replying to your own post. Please ignore my post as you don't care at this point.

wireless and corded shutter release solutions help

The wireless remotes that mount in the hot shoe do so only for convenience of use. They use the remote shutter port to actually activate the shutter and don't require the any communication with the pins on the hot shoe. You can thus remove them from the hot shoe and as long as you have another way to control their movement so that they don't become disconnected, will work fine.

Most of my lenses require a +10 AF adjustment when shooting in Tungsten light. You might want to try the testing outside to see if the issue is light dependent.

The K10D can write jpegs until the card was full. It is only when shooting RAW that the buffer fills. You should only get 14 or so RAW files before the buffer fills. It is after that that the speed of the card becomes visible. Simply shoot enough to capture 10 RAW files after the buffer fills and then compare the difference between the time stamps in the EXIF data between the two cards.

Personally I think Pentax should get the RS1000 into advertising for other companies. They should have a "Your Company Name Here" vert for the thing. Buy 10,000 for a bulk price of 10% over cost.

Wireless flash vs extension cord

It will at least leave SR active as wireless disables it. It will allow for AF assist on the 360FGZ instead of the vrrrrtt vrrrrt of the on board. The performance you can judge for yourself. If the performance seems better with the flash in the camera's hotshoe, then it will be the same on a cable.

No issues with vignetting with the holder except if you are trying to follow an angle in the scene with the horizon on a GND, more important with a hard filter I guess.

Why not just buy a 18-55mm WR lens and use the gasket out of it for the camera mount end of the TC. The gasket on the 300mm should seal the TC at that end. The only thing left would be to cover the lens lock on the TC with a bit of waterproof tape.

Businesses operate under different rules and there is no way to separate the business from the individual in this case. I'm not kicking, just commenting on what the OP may not see or realize. We often are most blind to our own actions.
