Should i get a 8-bit or 10-bit (wide gamut) monitor?

Sorry to say this but bitrate is not connected to gamut.
Gamut tells you the greenest green and bluest blue it can show and the bitrate is about the accuracy, it's the amount of shades it can display.

Harsh Red Light at Concerts = less detail

I can write it down slightl simpler.

of the K5 sensor with 16 mega pixels.
4 mega pixels are red
8 mp are green
4 mp are blue

So if you shoot an image which is mostly red then the red pixels will do most of the work, the quality won't be like a 16mp photo but closer to a 4mp photo.

As for metering use manual.
Stage lighting can change quite rapidly and dramitcly so you metering can easily be fooled.
Some use spot metering on the faces for example but for those wide angle shots that isn't an option at all.
What i do is zoom in on the face or clothing take a metering by pressing the "green button" you will get an exposure that should be pretty close. You might want to adjust about a stop or so to get a perfect and then everytime the lighting change a lot (different song?) you start over again. You can get fast with this and get a good exposure within 5 seconds on manual mode.

K5II or K5IIS?

With photos for a lookbook we ran into problems with the first version of the K5 and the Canon 5D mkII, it can hit hard if you aren't careful in some situations. Also it very much depends on the sharpness of the lens and the photo itself.
If the lens is not sharp (difraction), the subject moves, the camera moves (< So for those that boost they shot 1,000,000 photos with the S version (or any camera for that matter) and never saw anymore moire, they most likely aren't making the sharpest of photo to begin with.
Most benefit will come from tripod or flash photography, with handheld types of photography the gain will be less or maybe non.
If i put slightly better quality strings on a guitar, it won't do anything for the music if i can't play guitar, beside that everything around it also matters like the guitar, pickups, amp and the speakers for example.
It's the same with the S version, you photos will not magically be 8% or so sharper, you will need to put effort into that and the closer you are of getting all you can out of the camera and lens the greater the benefit will be.

They lowered the price of the normal version to 2k and that includes software worth almost 1k so that is almost a steal...

Ontop of the pixels in the sensor there is a colour pattern of Red, green and blue because of that pixel density is different per colour.
White light for example will use most if not all of the pixels but red light will primarely use red pixels and blue the blue ones.
per set so to say there are 4 pixels, 1 is red, 2 are green and 1 is blue, so with only red or blue light you will only use about 1/4th of the pixels.

This is not fully the problem though but it would be a part of it.

There is no way you can spot the difference unless they put up a heavyly cropped one.
It depends on how you present your images and what kind of images you take and the care you spend on them.

to get your feed on the ground, for a print regardless the size you've enough with 6mp at normal viewing distance and the k5 has 16mp, so you already have 10mp headroom.
For normal use there is no benefit, sure when you zoom fully in or look very close to a large print you see a differnce but you do no look at images in such a way ;)

Beside that you need to have a good lens and get a sharp photo to begin with so that mostly means tripod use.
The 18-135 is very decent but not very sharp though so it will do very little to benefit the S version.

It's trully the panel, those EIZO's you are talking about for example have 16bit LUT and 10 bit panel.

As for the graphics card, you need a workstation one for the support.

HDR Efex or Photomatrix for a complete novice

This a plus for HDR effex actually because you can also use photoshop to merge the images into a 32bit file and HDR effex makes it into 16 bit. So you've several options.

It's all quite confusing.

The bits in the file and bits of the monitor are things you can see as 2 different things.

With lightroom it most likely work with 16bit files or atleast it handles them like that but most likely it will show 8bit colours.
It works in higher bits as not to pull apart or destroy the information of the file/pixels.

With photoshop you can indeed indicate that you are working with a 10bit monitor and it should then output 10bit colours.

Goodbye Photoshop CS, Hello Photoshop CC

You're not force to update and you can revert/download older versions.
So if you're working on a project you can freeze the state of the program so it wouldn't update.

There is no fundemental difference between CS6 and CC, the only difference is that new features are added over time instead of a new release every 2 years. Since changes are made gradually i would suspect it would be more stable then a first version release.

The major change is indeed the interface, if you like it or not is a personal thing but i'm very curious to hear exampels on how it breaks the workflow to make what you're saying a bit more heavy. From what i experience is that people are making it a problem only because it looks different even though it function almost preciesly the same.
They are going to bring back the start button again with the upcoming service pack, funny enough you can click on the left lower corner and go to start already. So basically they are putting an icon there and that's it and people are happy about that, this what i mean with simply a visual change. Just shows how simple people sometimes are :(

The gain with windows 8 is unity (in workflow somewhat) and compatibility across devices, if you like it or not is a different story but surely you can see some value in that right.

Ah intersting, the springs are made to be compressed so they should be okay.
If it was a problem then your car will also be lower every time or your ballpen will stop working.

Most likely there is no spring inside, they are air cushend. There should be a little screw somewhere so you can change the amount of air inside.

So far as i know you can full compress them.

The basis is still the same like you say.
The biggest new feature is the clone tool and that instead of graduated effect you can now also do them circle like.

btw if you want an up to date book you will have to wait, the upcoming 5,2 update will bring new features.

Panning using slow shutter

There are two situaions i can tink off.
SR also compensate for left and right movement so if you pan it can steady the shot at first as static subject and then when it hits it's limit pan with the camera, so you need to activate the SR and pan before hitting the shutter.

The other is when the camera is perfectly steady like on a good tripod, the SR can get into a sort of feedbackloop where it will correct it's own correction, you can get blurry images that way. But normally it's not a problem but if you get a blurry image while on a tripod you know where to look.

The vertical motion is of the subject itself, with a car or motor you would have a sharp image.
You need to timw the photo perfectly at the point the vertical movement is small and you need to adjust the shuttterspeed accordingly.

Well no, because the price of smaller sensors will even drop more and sensors will get better and better so the reason to go larger gets less important over time.

Also with electronics we see that smaller is better so...

anyway i think with the release of m4/3 to EOS speedbooster will help m4/3 quite a bit also with the support of blackmagic.
