Wonderful capture. I've not yet had the pleasure of photographing a Northern Flicker, but it's surely on my short list.(Relatively common in Minnesota where I live)

For an f3.5 ultra wide-angle lens, you have managed to coax out the Bokeh on the fencepost image. Considering you shoot with an APS-C camera, this is even more impressive. (And the Bokeh doesn't look half bad) Am enjoying your photography showcasing the DOF characteristics of many Pentax and Third-Party lenses. Now if I can only convince my wife that an SMC-DA 55mm f1.4 should be adopted into the lens stable. (To my eye, excepting the new SMC-DFA 50mm f1.4, the DA 55mm is the Bokeh king)

One of the first images I captured with this wonderful lense. I initially didn't think much of this image, but then I went in for a pixel-peep. Holy Buckets, Batman.
Unexpectedly awesome resolving power. Replaces the venerable Sigma EX Macro 105mm f2.8 in the lens stable. Definitely a keeper, this one.

"Gone to seed" - I was experimenting with large aperture close ups, and rather like the resulting bokeh. Handheld, no filters.

Hope you enjoy these. This spring's been very productive for birding. All images w/KP, DA* 300mm f4.0, & HD Pentax-DA 1.4x AW AF Rear Converter. Very happy with this combo for now.

Stopped off on the way to the wildlife refuge and found a great location for sunrise photos. Was excited to see the sky perfectly reflected in the lake's surface. Enjoy.

A fun outing with the KP this weekend. Spring is finally starting to show up in the Northland.

The weather was abysmal, so I decided to experiment with some intentional lens movement (handheld).I got lucky and captured this on the second try. The next 25 tries were junk.

A few images from earlier this winter (in January before the bottom dropped out and Minnesota's climate resembled Antartica). No filters used, shot with the SMC-FA 20-35mm f4.0 or Sigma EX 10-20 f3.5.
The KP works well in colder temps, as long as you keep the batteries warm and pop them in when you're ready to shoot. I've been working on my PP flow, hope these appear more natural. Stay warm, my friends.

A few shots from Saturday, taken with the KP and FA 20-35mm f4.0. I wish Raw Therapee had a profile for this lens, but I made do with the SMC-DA16-45mm f4.0 profile. This lens paired with the KP is a potent combo. X-posted.

Shot on the Pentax KP and Sigma EX 50mm f2.8 Macro @ f11.0. I've had this lens going on 22 years, and it still amazes. I cropped it square, because I liked the composition better. Enjoy.

Woke up on January 2nd to a winter wonderland here in MN. All pics taken with the KP and SMC-FA 20-35mm f4.0. I found that using
Auto WB in these conditions will require more work in PP, but it's easy enough to correct in Raw Therapee. That's my dog, Blu in the last image. (He loves hunting bunnies and squirrels on the fairgrounds) As usual, the KP makes me look like a better photographer than I am. Although it was quite chilly (-25C), keeping a spare battery in a warm inner pocket worked like a charm.

Found this image tonight and re-edited for your viewing pleasure. Bokeh courtesy of the venerable SMC-Takumar 50mm f1.4 shot wide open on the KP. Definitely have to use this one more often. May not be as sharp WO as a modern nifty fifty, but it works for me.

I grabbed this image yesterday morning at the Minnesota River. After I brought it up in PaintShop Pro, it was screaming out for B&W, so I gave it the Silver Efex treatment, and then an additional pink toning in Topaz adjust, which helped to highlight the duck's eye. Shot with the KP and DA* 300mm f4.0 at f4.5. The eye could have been in sharper focus, (should have stopped down a bit) but I still like how this turned out. Cross-posted to the 300mm Plus Lens Club thread.

Landscape Moose Lake Midday Magic

I spotted the Lily Pads growing just off the side of a fishing pier, and knew this image had potential. The challenge here was with dynamic range and getting enough detail in the trees across the lake during midday. I used a 3-stop GND & CP filter to help control the harsh light reflecting off the
lake surface, and then carefully post-processed in Raw Therapee/PaintShop Pro/Nik Color Efex to try to achieve a natural balance. Comments?

Decided I needed some fresh air, so I headed to the nearby Minnesota River to hunt for Trumpeter Swans, but only came across
a flock of ducks. Fortunately, the early morning light was favorable for a few nice captures of these mallards. Shot with the KP and
DA* 300mm f4.0. I used a Kenko 1.5x SHQ Tele-convertor on the shot with the mallard pair. Although it only support MF with this lens,
for relatively static subjects such as these ducks, it works rather well. (At least until I can spring for the DA* 1.4x TC)I really like how
light this combo is, and with the KP, I really don't feel like I need any additional resolution. Please click on the images to view the full size
jpegs on FLICKR.

I needed to travel light, as I had my dog & spouse along with, so the DA 16-45 got the call. IMHO, this lens is still able to keep up with the APS-C sensor on the KP. Just look at the detail in the trees along the far coastline in the second image. It's a sleeper.

A few images from this years fall colors trip to the North Shore of Lake Superior. The resolving capability of this lens when paired with the KP does not disappoint, providing there is enough contrast in the image. It may not possess good AF performance (legacy screw drive) but as a landscape lens, due to it's light weight and utility, still finds a place in my bag.
