is it worth it to try and sell an older Tamron 70-200mm lens

Thank you. My son is not interested in this lens. I will work on getting more pics up, including a close up of the front element. I am trying to get a jumping off point for listing it.

I have an older Tamron LD Di SP 70mm-200mm 2.8 (IF) lens in Pentax mount. Over the years when I was shooting Pentax it was my favorite lens and my primary money maker for doing livestock portraits.
I have since gifted everything else Pentax to my son as I know the resale value of it all, including my K5 was not worth trying to make a buck on it. he already had some Pentax gear. He lives in a rural area and I told him that if he loses interest to donate to a photography program if he could find one.
Okay, that said, I would like to know if there is still enough interest in the 70-200mm lens for me to try and sell it. And at what price point? The only flaw is a small chip in the front element. close to the edge, where a cow kicked up some gravel at me. It has never shown up in pictures.

Thank you, and the others who have responded. My only other "heavy" lens is a 70-200 2.8 and I don't walk around with that lens unless I am using a tripod.

My primary concern is the weight of the lens hanging down while walking. If I have a free hand I can reach down and support the lens. But, too many times I stop and put up my bins leaving the camera and lens hanging supported only by the camera strap. Which in turn leaves the lens supported solely by the camera's lens mount. I already have binoculars hanging from a chest harness and a belt pack on. I'd prefer not to have anything else hanging off my body except by a shoulder strap..I usually carry the camera with the strap over my shoulder rather than around my neck.

I plan on spending quite a bit of time birding this fall and taking my camera with me. During these walks my tripod will either be occupied by a spotting scope, or left at home. I will be using a K5 with the 55-300mm lens plus a 1.4TC. The problem is that the lens does not have a tripod mount and I don't want to strain my camera's lens mount by having the lens hand upside down all day. I have searched the web and so far this is the beat I have been able to find.

Other suggestions would be welcome.
Thank you.

Although I haven't moved up from my K5, yet, I also have the Tamron and don't find the focus noise to be too noisy. Neither do my chosen subjects.

Thank you

My error, it's a Tobacco Hornworm, Mancuda sexta. A caterpillar of a sphinx moth. I always get them confused.

Since I had mentioned Tomato Hornworms, here is one done with my older 100mm f/4 macro lens. Handheld at dusk. It took an iso of 3200. This picture was taken within a week of getting my "new to me" K5 and it hadn't been set up yet. When I spotted the critter I went back to the house and grabbed the camera and ran.

Went out to practice photographing birds but guess they had more sense than I did and were staying out of the sun. This guy was out though. Please be kind. I have never attempted to photograph insects before, except tomato hornworms, and these were hand held.

I was able to get my Tamron 70-200 2.8 for $500 last year at KEH. It is my favorite lens for many things, but, I can't use it without a tripod. It's too heavy for me otherwise. That said, I do find the combination of 18-135 and 55-300 to be a great go anywhere kit. I also vote for the 55-300 for what you are doing right now.

Wish the orioles around here would come to my feeders. I've given up putting them out, fruit eater specific ones. In three years of trying I had one orchard oriole come in briefly, but no Baltimore. yet I need only drive 20 minutes away from home to see both varieties. Nice shot indeed.

It was the wife who booked me but the husband who took over. Since I had blocked out the afternoon for them I saw no harm in accommodating both. That way there was no friction between them. Although the wife emailed me privately to apologize.

Pets Two People With One Heifer Equals Two Different Style Poses

Well what turned out to be an interesting fact was that the small acreage they live on had been part of the original family farm he had grown up on. The farm was sold to fund his parents retirement, except for the section where this couple live. The heifer is actually the great granddaughter of a cow that had been his 4h project. They were looking through a auction catalog, noticed her, and he traced her pedigree. She is a gold and white Holstein, not nearly as well known as the black and white ones, and that was what his family had raised.

On the other hand, she hadn't had first hand livestock experience until they married. This is the first cow she has ever had and considers her more of a pet, albeit one very special to her husband, rather than livestock.

I was asked to do a "portrait" of the family heifer by the wife in the family. When I got there her husband, who had grown up showing dairy cattle had a totally different idea of what type of pose the heifer should be in. She had want casual shots in front of the cornfield.

He wanted posed shots, show cow style, by the farm name. Unfortunately there was distracting hardscaping near the sign so I could not center it perfectly under the poor heifer. Although I could have PP'ed his arms out of the shot, he wanted them in as that was how most of the catalogs showed posed dairy cattle.

I sent them a total of 20 finished images. In some the "posing arms" were PP'ed out, in others they stayed. I preferred the more casual shots by the cornfield that had the background blurred but she liked the ones with the stalks in focus. Here are the two favorites, one of his and one of hers.

I was very lucky yesterday. It was still early morning, the sky was a bright blue and the swallow landed on a boat in the water, with a blue cover on part of it. So blue was in the air.
