Pentax 77 mm Limited lens with extras Asking Price
500.00 USD Item Location
Saskatchewan (Canada) Item Description

I joined Pentax Forums to raise money to buy this lens buy haven't used it very much. Selling to buy a better computer for photo editing.

I had the same stuck pin problem with a 3rd party grip. No LCD problems fortunately, so maybe they are unrelated in your case (i.e. just a coincidence).

Really? Isn't live view done with the lens wide open? If so then any lens that has a focus shift when stopping down (e.g. spherical abberation) will have some change of focus point when you take the photo.

B&H uses Purolater to Canada. That allows them to show the exact total cost as you check out. Not sure if Purolater is a good solution for individuals shipping.

Thanks for the link. I thought there were more than one. Makes it easy to select the hi-precision one I guess.
I dont think f2.8 sensors have to be in the center. I'm pretty sure Canon or Nikon have more than one on their high end cameras.

So, do we know which of the AF sensors are the f2.8 ones?
If you let the camera choose which AF sensor to use will it alway use the f2.8 ones if you have a fast lens mounted, or will it use any of them?
Thanks - Greg

Very interesting. They say:
Does the ii really have a larger buffer? Hadn't heard that.
Also hadn't heard of an improvement in the "low light stabilization system". Is that a typo and they are talking about the AF system?

I just got my new Pentax K-5 II. Yippie!! :)
My old iPhoto 09 doesn't recognize the raw format. Boooo. :(
Can I update my iPhoto to be able to convert the K5ii files or do I have to buy the latest version?
Thanks - Greg

I would say it would have the same chance of moire as a camera with an anti-alias filter shooting (fairly) wide open. If the anti-aliased camera is shooting at f8 or f9.8 it will effectively have two filters and thus less moire than the IIs at f9.5.

Looks amazing. I wish they had the K20 in their database so I could compare side by side.

At slow shutter speeds it's probably theoretically possible to move the sensor in a small circle to mimic the AA filter. At fast shutter speeds (where the shutter acts like a moving slit) the sensor couldn't move fast enough to blur in both the vertical and horizontal directions before the slit moves past.

Great thread since I'm considering upgrading from the K20D also. Too bad the K5 ii is 50% more than the K5. I'm not sure it's a 50% bigger improvement over the K20 versus the old K5.

The AA filter is not related to that issue. From what I understand the little lenses over/on the AF sensor aren't achromatic, so they give slightly different focus depending on the redness or blueness of the light.

You need to quadruple the ISO to get double the distance. Because of the square law you need 4 times as much light to reach twice as far. So you either quadruple the amount of light from the flash or quadruple the ISO you are using.

One of the LX finders is greater than 1x magnification. The downside is reduced eye relief so people wearing glasses (and maybe people without) have to move their eyes around to see the edges of the frame.

Interesting. So it doesn't prevent picture taking for most people (everyone)?

True. It just seems (from my limited understanding) that this problem can make the camera unusable which makes it a bigger issue than some others that DSLRs have.

Thanks Eulogy. I just wish it was more well defined. Maybe I'll just have to wait until (no) reports from the K5 II come in.

i.e. If I buy a K5 after a certain serial number it won't develop the problem? Or if I buy a repaired K5 the problem won't reoccur?
Thanks - Greg
