Some with the 135 f2.5. Look at the sign on the taxi in the image at the bottom. I bet he doesn't get many customers!

I had this experience with the Da* 200. The first new copy I bought I was, from the very first shot, gobsmacked by the image quality. Sharp, contrasty, great rendering and this was wide open. Unfortunately after only a week there was a fault and instead of getting it repaired under guarantee, I did not want to wait 3 or more weeks, I exchanged it at the shop. It was a big mistake because the copy they gave me did not have the same image quality. I took it to Pentax they agreed about the difference but said it was in spec but would try to find one as good as the first. Six months later I had used 6 copies and all were slightly different but none were as good as the first copy. One would pf more than the other or be softer than the other. Interestingly this includes two copies that were lent to me by Pentax. One copy was a little soft wide open but had little to no purple fringing. The other loaner copy just had too much PF. I never did find one as good as the first copy but the one I have is good enough.
The thing that disappointed me was that the star lenses are supposed to be the best lenses in Pentax's range and yet there was such a variation in quality.
So this experience taught me what the phrase ‘it’s a keeper’ really means. My very first copy was an exceptional copy ‘a keeper’ only I did not realize it at the time and exchanged it. Damn!
So now when I see postings with stunning images waxing lyrical about the new lens they have just bought I wonder do all copies perform the same or have they got a ‘keeper’?

The images on this thread are amazing. I was out with my ranynox 150 and 135mm taking some close ups of small flowers when I noticed a bug hanging around being very co operative so I decided to take some snaps. I realize now after looking through this thread that I really should use a difuser when using flash but I have noticed that in strong sunlight without flash there are still light reflections/flares on hairs of bugs. How do I prevent this. Is there a filter I can use? Also i have attached images of the bug I have taken and there seems to be some false colour. Any ideas what is causing that? Any advice would be much appreciated.

The Da*200 seems to have few posts compared to the other stars so I thought I would post a few recent images.

Funny how this thread should pop up when I was just about to post something similar. Last weekend I took my daughter to the beach in Enoshima, Japan and from a previous visit I new that there would be an opportunity to shoot a bird known as Tombi in Japan which translates to Black-eared Kite. This birds hover above the beach and frequently swoop down to steal food. So I decided to take my DA"200 my longest tele and get some pics.
Not a birder I had my camera set up for what I normally shoot and realised after my first few shots that center point, afs would not cut it plus the images were just black blobs against a white sky. Even though it was slightly overcast shooting against the sky I had to dial in +2 comp.
I wasn't getting focus so I change the settings to 9 point af on my k5ii and afc hoping this would improve my hit rate but still I struggled. I would see a Tombi flying toward me in the distance and raise my camera to my eye half press the button to focus and discover that my lens was at the wrong focus point to focus quickly enough on the bird. I even struggled to get a sharp image when they were just hovering above.
I suppose I can get around the slowness of the lens by prefocussing with quick shift and the diopter adjustment should cover my failing eyesight. After my first try at shooting birds I now appreciate how difficult it is to get the shot. Below is one image of the bird I was trying to shoot.

This lens was the first manual lens I bought and I was surprised how easy it was to get accurate focus. My lens has a few cleaning marks but still is sharp enough from wide open with good contrast and color. As has already been pointed out it gives best result in gentle light.
You should also try the catch in focus setting.
1. Custom Menu 5 option 35 set to 2 (this for the K7 I am not sure which menu for the k30)
2. Camera set for AF-S
3. Manual lens (M,K, A) on the camera.
4. Point camera towards object, press the shutter release completely, and turn the focus ring. When the camera detects focus, it will take the picture.

Can I join. I recently got a Raynox 150 to use with my k135. Really struggled with my first attempts. Apart from some close up abstractish flower petal/stamen shots this is about the best I could get handheld in bright sunlight. From the short time of use I get the impression that flash is a must to get the best detail which is something I avoid using normally because when I have used (very rarely) the pop up flash in the past the resulting image has been flat and over exposed.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Last friday I bought the K01 body mainly as it was being offered at a good price thinking that if I didn't like it I could return it. Well with the lenses I use autofocus is useless unless photographing stationary objects. My mistake was assuming that the returns policies in Japan were the same as in my home country because even though I only had it a week and was attempting to exchange for a k30 they refused. They would only do it if the camera had a fault. I pointed out that they would be doubling their money but they still refused. oops!!
So is are there any particular settings that could be turned off that would make the camera autofocus faster.
