Before you take it to a repair shop you should try putting the lens in a sealed container with some packets of moisture absorbent silica gel desiccant. My fa50 fogged so I put it in a ziplock bag with some packets and left it for a couple of days and it worked like a charm. Try it. If it works it costs you next to nothing. If it is fungus then I suggest that you rethink your storage methods.
I live in a country with very humid conditions and learned the hard way that leaving lenses in draws or bags in a humid climate is asking for trouble. In my first year here 2 lenses that I didn't use turned green inside. Fortunately I did not keep those lenses with my others as they probably would have been infected with fungus also. My quick and easy solution was to buy a small dry cabinet and no problems since. If you do a search on this site or on the internet you will find lots of info about storing lenses.

Hi fs999. I have been looking through this thread with interest and envy as most of my lenses are FF compatible I look for images taken with the lenses I have to see how they perform on the K1. I have the DA*200 and have noticed that most of your images are in crop mode except for the one above which I really like by the way. I notice that there is some vignetting is that why you use crop mode or is it for the extra reach.

What you say seems to make sense. The import settings are exactly the same for both then it must be something embedded in the K30 dng.

I have set Lightroom at basic develop module setting. All the sliders are set at 0 except the sharpening settings which are at the basic 25,1,25 settings.No presets. The import settings are the same for k30 and k5iis raw files. Today I opened raw files from both cameras and the k30 files look better.

No presets on import. Raws from both cameras were imported into lightroom as dng with the same basic lightroom settings. I would have thought the images would look the same except that the images would be slightly sharper with the k5iis but surprisingly the k30 images look better as if they have more micro contrast or something. I dunno. Aren't the sensors the same except that the k30 has an thing anti alias filter and slightly less dynamic range.

I had the k30 and I liked the images. The camera developed a fault so i upgraded to the K5iis which i have been using for a few years. When I first imported the K5iis raws into lightroom I noticed that the images did not have as much pop compared to k30 raws imported at the same settings. Has anybody else noticed this? Could anyone explain why this could be because shouldn't the raw output from both cameras be almost identical. Also what adjustments can I make to the k5iis images to get similar results?

This is where I get confused. The difference in dof. I can understand that if I put my fa50 1.4 on a 1.5 apsc camera the field of view will be the same as a 75mm lens on an FF.
I cannot understand that if I put the 50mm set at f1.4 on an ff camera with the same camera to subject distance why the dof is not the same as in the image taken with the 1.5 apsc camera.

Isn't diststance from camera to subject relevant re DOF?
What is more interesting to me is what will I gain if I trade in my k5iis for an FF camera. So I read this thread. Apparently the lenses I have, according to what I have read on this thread, will perform slightly better not only in the centre but at the edges also. Is it worth the extra money for that slight gain. I suppose it depends if want to make A2 size or A1 size prints.

I had this experience with the Da* 200. The first new copy I bought I was, from the very first shot, gobsmacked by the image quality. Sharp, contrasty, great rendering and this was wide open. Unfortunately after only a week there was a fault and instead of getting it repaired under guarantee, I did not want to wait 3 or more weeks, I exchanged it at the shop. It was a big mistake because the copy they gave me did not have the same image quality. I took it to Pentax they agreed about the difference but said it was in spec but would try to find one as good as the first. Six months later I had used 6 copies and all were slightly different but none were as good as the first copy. One would pf more than the other or be softer than the other. Interestingly this includes two copies that were lent to me by Pentax. One copy was a little soft wide open but had little to no purple fringing. The other loaner copy just had too much PF. I never did find one as good as the first copy but the one I have is good enough.
The thing that disappointed me was that the star lenses are supposed to be the best lenses in Pentax's range and yet there was such a variation in quality.
So this experience taught me what the phrase ‘it’s a keeper’ really means. My very first copy was an exceptional copy ‘a keeper’ only I did not realize it at the time and exchanged it. Damn!
So now when I see postings with stunning images waxing lyrical about the new lens they have just bought I wonder do all copies perform the same or have they got a ‘keeper’?

The images on this thread are amazing. I was out with my ranynox 150 and 135mm taking some close ups of small flowers when I noticed a bug hanging around being very co operative so I decided to take some snaps. I realize now after looking through this thread that I really should use a difuser when using flash but I have noticed that in strong sunlight without flash there are still light reflections/flares on hairs of bugs. How do I prevent this. Is there a filter I can use? Also i have attached images of the bug I have taken and there seems to be some false colour. Any ideas what is causing that? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Effect me too. These were taken hand held in the field. I am not sure what the aperture was for that image but definitely not wide open. f5.6 or more. The depth of field is so small when the raynox 150 which is 4 diopters is combined with the k135 and gives a magnification of about 0.8 that even at f16 that effect can be achieved at small apertures therefore aberrations are not an issue.
Note: I am not sure that 0.8 is the magnification as I haven't got a clue how to work it out.

Actually at first I was taking some shots with my raynox 150 attached to the 135 and decided take some backlit without the raynox. I did not do so well with the raynox but Ilike this shot. Regarding the fringing. If you look at the the edge of the lower white flowers you can see an outline left after removing the fringing in lightroom.

I was being a bit of a devils advocate when I started this thread as the FF camera will be way out of my budget but the above line made it all worth it. I laughed till I cried. Thank you.

Regarding the DA*200 and PF/CA there is one member of this and the other forum that swears blind that his copy does not suffer from this at all. I myself had a problem with my DA* 200 over a period of 6 months and in that time used several copies 2 of which were lent to me by Pentax service one if which had pronounced pf but the other hardly had any PF and could only be seen at extreme pixel peeping. The variation between the lenses re PF was quite disappointing really. My own copy exhibits a little PF/CA in high contrast situations but is easily removable besides I really like the focal length and the quality of the images so I can live with it.
Just one more things re PF my DA70 ltd and 15 ltd both suffered from PF so this problem is not just limited to old designs.

Your statement is correct regarding using the best part of the lens but lets take the fa" 85 lens as an example. This lens was designed to excel as a portrait lens on FF. When used on a crop sensor the magnification is the same but the field of view is smaller which means to get the same view as on FF, take a portrait, the photographer has to step back. Move further from the subject thus effecting sharpness, color, micro contrast. rendering and dof of the image. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for all the replies. All things considered I suppose it was a silly question really because the answer is quite simple. Lenses designed to give optimum image qualities on ff cameras should give a better quality of image on FF than on a crop sensor purely because they were designed for FF.

Having only ever used apsc I am wondering what the difference is between an image taken on FF and an image taken on apsc. My lenses are all FF compatible. Maybe there is a question mark about my DA" 200 although I remember that when it came out some complained that it was not a new design but only an FA" with new coatings and if that is the case then it should be FF compatible.
Would I be correct in thinking that on FF the field of view would be wider, edges would be softer and that there would be more vignetting? My 200mm lens have the same magnification but would it have the field of view of a 135mm on FF? How much better will the 77ltd or Fa" 85 be for portraits.

Unfortunately I do not have a K3. I still use the lowly k5iis with the 200 and unfortunately if I shoot something coming towards me at anything more than walking pace then it will be oof more times than not. Maybe I should upgrade.:)

Shooting events such as soccer would be a challenge for any autofocus system I think. I know the autofocus is slow with the da* 200 as I have one and I am aware there are lenses that focus faster but wouldn't good use of quick shift on the 200 overcome the slow autofocus speed of the lens? I am guessing that prefocus and good anticipation have always been a part of good sports photography manual or autofocus. Do you use quick shift?

I find that quick way to check for focus accuracy is to compare cdaf images with pdaf images. Of course make sure it is good light.
