This is terribly bad news for the photography world. With Amazon scheduled to delete the site in April, all that accumulated knowledge will simply vanish - tips, reviews, databases, personal recommendations, photographs will all disappear. This is disasterous from every aspect, and I caution against celebrating the deletion of 25 years of accumulated wisdom and data. I am very disappointed in Amazon.

The DA* 60-250 optical qualities on APS-C are excellent. It's the best DA lens I own and has given me some of my best land- and seascape photos. I'm really sorry to see Pentax discontinue it.

I have no doubt that Ricoh know exactly why they made the design choices they did. As far as I remember, a flippy screen was omitted to leave more horizontal distance between the screen surface and the outer edge of the eyecup. The goal was to make the experience of using the new larger optical viewfinder as pleasant as possible. A flippy screen would have been too thick for the comfort that the designers were looking for in using the viewfinder.

It's the reason I didn't buy the K-3 III and chose to stick with the KP in the Pentax world.
Being a keen hiker, and having several Olympus weather sealed lenses, I used the money to buy an Olympus EM1 III instead (for it's portability, IBIS, weathersealing, burst rate, accurate focusing, and... fully articulated screen). I'm neutral regarding EVF/OVF.
That said, I don't think I'd ever sell my K-5II or old Pentax lenses. But the K-3 III without an articulating screen just wasn't compelling enough at $2000.

Still using XP at work - great operating system, esp. for legacy accounting programs, the contemporary versions of which you now have to rent to use. Usually nothing beats Windows for backwards compatibility, but there are some programs that just won't run on Windows 10.

Photographs are normally viewed as snapshots caught in time - each a combination of subject and photographer being in the right spot at the right time, with the photographer having the skills and equipment to capture the photo. There's some hypocracy in photographing a drugged subject without stating the fact. It's a mider form of the type of manipulation that some natural history photographers have gotten into trouble before when using stuffed animals in posed shots without declaring the fact. One isn't able to visually distinguish between a drugged or non-drugged subject usually. Drugging your subject without saying that's what you've done is lying by omission, in my view. In any event, to me, photos of animals (including insects) being their undrugged natural selves are far better than staged photos using drugged animals.

I've been disappointed by the lack of good quality Pentax logos and artwork out there on the Net. So beginning today, I'm working up a portfolio of vector artwork that is highly scalable and compatible across computer programs and platforms.
First off... a set of artwork for the Asahi Pentax K series. The artwork is my gift to the Pentax community -- feel free to use it as you wish, but please credit your source.
Comments and criticisms are welcome.

added Pentax 645Z and Ricoh logos

Two questions for actual K-3III owners...
It appears that the K-3III's AF points light up dark grey when in focus, not the bright red found in previous K-7/5/3 series models.
When using the viewfinder -
1. How difficult are the focus points to see against a dark background and in the dark?
2. Is it possible to change the AF point colour?
See this video, in which the AF points light up okay against a light background, but are nothing like those bright red AF points found in the KP and K-5, for example. Youtu.be |

Excellent lens. Highly recommended.
I use internal clip series ND filters, which work a treat with this or any lens.

Hi Everyone
I guess this is years overdue, but here is a link to a file of vector graphics of the K-1 series badges, which are scalable and useful for your own signature files.
There are several other vector files of classic Pentax cameras in the thread, as well as the digital K-7, 5 and 3 series. Thread link (with the download link) |

Oh, sorry,I didn't realise they made you sign up to download :( - I think the requirement was introduced after I joined Deviantart many years ago.
Thanks for letting me know.
So, I've made this and the other vector files available for download from my website - no signup required.
Just follow the link to download the K-1 file and the others. ---------- Post added 16-04-21 at 04:53 PM ----------
Thanks so much. I suppose I ought to try and complete the whole set of K-mount cameras. Just my way of giving something back to the Pentax community.

I want it but don't need it. So, probably not at $2000.
It would be the perfect APS-C camera if it had a shift-tilt screen. It's got everything else I need. But I think I will wait and see.

Hello all you medium formatters...
Just to let you know I've published some vector artwork for all Pentax's MF cameras, from the 6x7 to the 645D. The artwork is editable in almost all modern graphic editing programs, e.g. Adobe Illustrator, and is part of a continued project of mine to compile vector artwork for Pentax products. |

At US$1,500 Ricoh will hit a home run IMO. Excellent price, excellent features, excellent value, to entice existing K5/3 users to buy the camera.
