Thanks I believe the problem might be solved. I have reset the menu and it was also turning the statis screen off and turning on display time.I think these three might solve my confusion.

OK I hope I am explaining this right. I lent out my k-r to a friend. When I got it back I realized that I can only see the imagine that I want to take a picture from live view. Meaning when live view is not turned on. I only see my settings. What buttons did he either turn on or off. I cannot figure it out.

Ok I need to know is it worth it to get the $20 warranty on my recent purchase of a k-r? I have had it now for about 6 weeks. The reason why i am asking is for the one year follow up to see if the camera is working fine and for the repair company (pentax?) to make any adjustment to the camera if something is wrong?

Of course it's another $20 you need to send in to pay for return shipping. Has anyone done this with their camera? I guess what it really would cost is $40 for the whole thing. $20 for the maint. contract and $20 for return shipping.

I was told that the cost would be over $100 if I did not get the maint. agreement should I wanted pentax to take a general look see at the camera and figure out if anything needed adjustment.

Ok as one of those female singers sang NO NO NO (lol) light meter. I have gone to my local library and taken the exposure book out maybe 1st edition and will read that. And I will be looking on the net about the histogramo too! Cool just needed some thoughts, probably will not be taken studio photos either.

Ok I have moved up to dslr and got the k-r and have been taking pictures both auto mode, p mode, and manual. Manual is where I want to learn more. Most pictures have come out ok, I have taken the bad and really bad pictures in all modes. So I have looked around on the internet and thought for the least amount of money do I need to get a light meter now?

I probably would spend no more than $40 looking for used ones. Is this worth spending the money on for this amount? I figure if I get one it will help me take pictures quicker and not make as many mistakes when in manual mode. Yes I do believe that mistakes help you learn and with digital you can easily delete the picture. I probably would look for a ambient model. Or just save my money for maybe a year from now a really good lens.

I got the same thing and got mine thru B&H sounds like same description, green pouch. I probably paid way more then you. I was trying to figure out was mine a geniue pentax one or knock off. In any event it works well. Since saw a post of people having a problem with the knock offs and went to pentax store site and saw that they were on back order. I then called b&H.

My recent lens purchase

Ok have a new k-r camera and recently purchased this used lens on the net. Super-Takumar (Pentax ) 28mm 1:3.5 Lens w/case and caps, M42 mount.

I heard that these old lens can be good. I cannot figure out if I need to get a adaptor for it. I believe I have to, and have not yet attempted to install on camera.

There is a long pin sticking out on the back. O ya I am new to photography so not yet down with all the tech names or description. If you need a picture I can take picture and repost.

So if I need a adaptor what do I ask for? A pentax adaptor or did I go with offbrand name one and how much can I expect to pay. Plus will the camera store guy know what I am talking about if I give description over the phone and said store is a pentax dealer?

I got mine online about a month ago and the retailer raised the price about $100 which made it above $700. I got the normal lens and the 50-200mm together. I also have since the price drop with other online retailers. The lowest I saw maybe last week was around $530-560.

I have had small problem. I got the chinese charger too are not they all made in china. So got rayovac platinum and had to give them a charge after first putting them in.

If you want the enloops just go to the sanyo site and get them. You can order them from sanyo. No store by me had them and it seems they came out with a new verison.

I will use the rayos until they die or unhappy with them.

Another question if I see a pentax older lens on ebay and the seller described it as having a k mount. Will I need an adaptor to put on my k-r? What if it is a old sears pentax lens or seller said it will work on a pentax camera and describe as having a k mount? Are sears lens any good?

Ok thanks for info. I think I will have to read about the green button more. But you do not think I will have to worry or take a pin out. I went to another tutorial here and saw some guy with a power hacksaw sawing his lens loose lol. It appears that it worked but saw a post to about the richo pin removal too. It seems I should be ok if I get this lens.

I recently saw advertised a Asahi Smc Pentax M 1:3.5 135 mm lens on the internet. The ad said used and I asked the guy if it would work on my K-r. He said he did not know since he does not have a dslr but if I have a pentax it should work on it.

So my question is I tired to look in my manual and I believe it should work right? I think I have to make a adjustment in the custom menu since it is a manual lens. The cost is below $50 for the lens.

Since it is a older lens will it come on and off correctly on my camera? Are there any things I should know about before attaching it to my camera. I saw a lens on ebay where it was older and the ad there mention that you might have to take a pin out so the lens does not get stuck on the camera.

What do people think about this lens?

Need to worry about magnetic device

OK, where I work everyone has to go thru one of those magnetic devices to check for metal on your person or backpacks. They also have those metal wands. So will my memory card or digital camera be harmed by this machine. I want to think not but then again who knows. I have read that people have to put them thru x ray machine in airports but I think the two machines might be alittle different? I am just double checking.
thanks

factors to use in k-r camera bag

Thanks for info everyone. I realized after posting message I might be able to use my timbuk2 bag. I do not have alot of equipment as of now. But am thinking about a insert?

I will see if I can find a camera store, these seem rare where I live and try out inserts if they carry them.

Ya it might be a waste of money but for now it might be a cheap way to go. I might look for a collaspeable insert if they are made.

OOOOOO my God. Such great advice from all those involved today. Thank you very much, much for me to learn but information gather today will keep me busy learning.

But I thought maybe the yellow blinking was telling me the area was too dark, but had to be sure and yes will turn off dark area on camera for now and play with that button. I get Steve's remark probably with most of the metering. Will be rereading all of that. Probably will look at books too. People have probably photograph longer than me or do or know and will know alot more than i will. Knowledge is information we can all learn from.

I am glad i got a pentax and glad to know people are here to give information and help others.
Thanks all

Ok am I doing wrong when you take a indoor picture or night picture and when you go to view it after taking it. You see yellow specks around dark areas. For example on a black cushion on wooden chair there were yellow specks blinking, does it mean the exposure should have been changed?

I have new K-R camera. Has anyone put the invisible shield on the monitor of your camera to protect against scratching? I can be rough on things. This is the plastic covering that might be used on your mp3 or to protect your phone glass.

Or do not use it cause it might take away from clearly see the picture when on the monitor?

EV bar and new to dslr

Ok to both answers thanks. Yes I will probably just do what both have answered. I think I will look at the book. Yes I have to say that more people will know more about picture taking I believe for now than I might ever get to know.

I just did not want to stay on auto all the time and started to look at av mode. I say this and ask questions that might be too difficult for me to understand. Since you read the manual they refer you to other sections or pages when you are in one section. Thus I go to the other section and start thinking well might not know how to do something at the present time but want to learn about it.

I think these manuals can be written in a different way. It seems you are always jumping from one section to another before you get a grasp of the current section of the manual.
appreciated
