So these were shot at "First Friday" which is an even held in downtown Lakeland the first Friday of every month. This month's theme was, of course, Halloween.
They did a reinactment of MJ's thriller. Thought these were some cool pics to share since we are approaching Halloween. Hope you enjoy!
BTW, feedback is welcomed.. I'm learning so I appreciate any tips you may have.

My neighbor and Michael... they are best buds! :o)

Thriller zombies:

Isn't this the cutest little zombie ever?!? This is my favorite picture.. I like the angle.

More zombies..

Anyway, Happy Halloween All!!

I never thought about avoiding knees but now that you say that, when I look at the pics all I see now are awkward knees! Great tip! Thanks so much! Will definitely remember that for future photos. :)

Excellent feedback, thank you! I never thought about moving the subject away from the background but I like the idea of that and I will definitely try it. I think maybe thats why I like the 2nd pic, because there is more of a distance, I just couldnt explain why I did. lol

I just read up on "rule of thirds" and had never heard of it until you mentioned it, so thank you. I will try and take some shots using those points next time and see how they come out.

Thanks again! You Rock!! :)

I agree 100% with the over-processing... Some beautiful photos but a lot of them were made beautiful after the fact. To me (and Im new so my opinion probably doesnt matter anyway), especially given to focus (trees aka natural), the best images are those that are untouched (well sort of) and natural themselves.

But I still give kudos to all those who know how to do such cool, artsy stuff PP (Im still learning all that, too).

Okay really its just my next door neighbor's daughter who let me do an impromptu shoot. But its my first ever "shoot" with a person. What do you think? The pictures were taken outside about 30 minutes before sunset in a shaded area.

All feedback is appreciated since I really am, how do you say, still clueless. :)

Great photos!! You may have mentioned this in the post somewhere so sorry if I am asking a repeat question but, what software do you use to edit your photos?
I just love some of the cool editing you did. :)

Which laptop has the best true-to-life coloring?

I experienced this same issue this past weekend. Thought it would be a good idea to bring my laptop with me while waiting to get my car serviced at the local shop and couldn't see a damn thing except reflections from every light, window, etc.
I know they make anti glare films u can put on the monitors for laptops, I am thinking it would be cheaper than swapping the monitor out itself, but not sure if that would work and still present true to life color or if it would distort the colors a little. May look into it and report back.

So I was playing around last night on my Lonovo and found that it has a color calibration tool built into it. I lessened the blue tint and now it seems to be better. I know you used the external calibrator but just thought I'd share :)

Hmmmm...

I never thought about having an external monitor.. will have to look into that. The only issue I see is that I need the mobility as I work from home so sometimes Im editing in my office at my work desk and sometimes while on the couch watchin tv.

As far as the Lonovo, I feel the same way... Way too much of a bluish tint. Since my Lonovo is fairly new, think I will check out that color calibration you mention.

I have a hgh-end HP multi-media computer but mine, too, is outdated.

SO how do I know if a screen is RGB?

So I am new at this (forums, photography, etc) and I need more advice please..
So I am using LightRoom for PP editing and I've noticed that my HP and Lonovo laptops are off colored... what I mean is, what I see on the screen is not what I see when I print the picture and/or when I view it from my work computer (which is a basic Dell desktop).

Am I crazy or is this an issue that others have?

I am in the market for a new laptop anyway, so does anyone have any suggestions on which laptop would be the best for using LightRoom (both in size capacity and more importantly to me, in true to life color on the screen)?

Any suggestions would be appreciated...

BTW, my laptop budget is around/under $1,000 so anything that falls in that range is better. :o))))

Awesome feedback, thank you!
And I love how dramatic yours looks compared to mine!!!
I just downloaded a trial of Lightroom (hence why the same pic is blue in my avatar) and I am hoping to learn more about post-picture editing (probably not what its technically called).

Thanks so much for explaining how you edited it. I am going to test it out myself and see if I can figure out how to do it!

I also wasnt sure if I should have edited it before posting on this forum so is it okay to do that vs. just the unaltered pic like I have? Because I could use the feedback with that, too. :)

Thanks again!!

I just got my first SLR camera and this is one of my very first pictures. Well at least one of the first that I thought out and really tried to capture the moment.
(We were at the beach and the sun was bright but clouds were rolling in behind us. The wind started to pick up and the pressure dropped.. just a cool scene)

Please critique it for me. I am totally new at this and at photography in general. So don't worry, I wont feel bad if you say it totally blows!

But I would really like feedback as to what I am doing so any comments are appreciated,

PS - the camera was a wedding gift and I took this on our honeymoon. That tells you how new I am at it. :o)

Thanks!

So far Lightroom seems amazing.. a little complex but I made 3 crappy photos looks fantastic in a short period of time so I think I am going to play with it and will touchbase again on the outcome.

Not a fan of Picasso and havent tried PhotoShop Elements yet.

Wow! So much useful information-thank you all so much!! I think I am definitely going to start filling my bag with the essentials RioRico mentioned and slow down a little bit. Sounds like there is so much more for me to learn and you all are right... I need to PRACTICE and really learn my camera before I get way ahead of myself. You guys are so awesome! Thanks again! I am sure i will have PLENTY of questions in the future so it's nice to know there are so many helpful experts out there. :-)

Other than the Understanding Exposure book and all the wonderful information on this forum, any other good books or sites I should check out?

Thanks again!

WOW you guys rock! Thank you so much for the warm welcome and all the good info!

Good news... I found my lens cover (in my carry on)! Love maxfield photo's idea of the pocket shirt - definitely going to start doing this. :)

As far as the program, I did download a free trial of Lightroom. Going to test that out and go from there. May also look into PhotoShop as Aperture is out (I have a Windows based computer system).

For the close-ups... I would love one for portraits (even though it seems my camera is full with macros of flowers)... I am going to research all the lense suggestions every one gave.

I do have a couple more questions please (if you dont mind)...
I've noticed online that there are off-brand lenses that are considerably cheaper than the name-brand Pentax ones. I am assuming its kind of like sunglasses.. my Keanon and Costas are far greater quality than the ones you buy at Target.
Has anyone ever used a lense brand other than Pentax? If so, how did it compare? What brands, etc.

Also, I have a UV filter on my camera already but read about other filters such as polarizer, one for flourescent light, etc. Any experience with these? Should I add them all to my collection? :)

Thanks again everyone for all the awesome info! Its very much appreciated!!
