I guess you would call this a low profile camera for street shooting ... at a color run!

With my K-r, it was when I bought a fast lens (FA50 f/1.4) and started using it near wide-open in low light that I noticed the camera was front focusing, and was outside the range of the AF adjustment. On testing, the front focus also showed up when I used the kit lenses on this camera, but it was rarely a problem with the slower lenses due to their greater DOF.
The DOF gets much narrower at f/1.4 or f/2.0 than at f/2.8 or smaller, so assuming the AF errors are at all related to calibration of the AF sensor vs image sensor, you might find it hard to make use of the extra speed without AF errors becoming more of a problem than with your F/2.8.

C'mon Bossa, really? A-series Pentax lenses, New Order, Molly Ringwald movies; ... Not everything in the 80s sucked.

I got the same setup, minus flash and French manual, for twenty bucks last year! Sometimes ugly and old can really work for you.

I couldn't resist this one on a visit to the botanic gardens.
The bush looks fine, it's the blown sky through the fence I'm worried about.

Snap. No landscapes yet, but I found a few willing models at home for some tests of perspective. This is WIIIIIDE for me so it will take some getting used to! |

DA15 for me ... Still waiting for it to make the long trip from NY to Melbourne (Black Friday splurge).
This is not just my first DA Ltd, I realised today that it's also the first time I have bought any lens brand new.

I started with a K-r about a year ago, and bought a used K200d as a backup body when one showed up cheap. Now I find myself using the K200d most of the time - I prefer its handling, quiet shutter, and its ability to take a battery grip. I dont' use live view so for me, low light performance is the only real downside of the K200. I also realised that for a hobby I don't really need two bodies. I could sell both and go for a k-5 now that the price is lower, but I don't feel any urgency to move up.

Welcome, InHouse and congrats on getting it at a great price. I've got a K200d and it is a great body to work with and learn on. I actually prefer it to my main body (K-r).
You should remember though that the weather-resistant body needs to be teamed up with a WR lens for wet weather use; otherwise your in-the-rain shooting sessions will become expensive! Apart from the current WR version of the 18-55mm, WR lenses don't come cheap.
Also, there are heaps of 50mm f1.4 or f1.7 lenses around in M, A, F and FA flavours, so don't think you need to buy the first one you see.

Yeah, the FA31. I will probably get the Sigma 30 f1.4 sometime this year, and see if that is enough. (HA!)

The theory held up! I picked up the kit today. A good condition F35-70 and what looks like a barely used F70-210 for $70 aussie dollars. With a SFX body (untested) thrown in to boot. Worth looking out for.

The other way to find the F35-70 is to look for one stuck to a Pentax SFX film SLR body or a similar model. These bodies were released at about the same time as th F series lenses. If you are lucky you will find someone selling grandpa's old, carefully stored SLR kit and they have no idea that the lenses are usable on todays cameras, or that the lenses are each worth more than the 40 bucks they want for the whole kit.
At least that's the theory; I'll find out if it works when I pick up my SFX + F35-70 + F70-210 tomorrow morning!
