How do I convert a Vivitar 70-210 seiries 1 to K mount

A good photographer friend told me if I had the chance to get a vivitar series 1 lens, buy it. Well I found a vivitar 70-210 series 1, Macro focusing Auto Zoom 67mm lens. With the letters "0/0M" on the side. I got the lens for about $20. There was another one that was mounted to a pentax camera, but I didn't want the camera too... guess I should of bought that one. (both were on a on line auction house, not Ebay).

 So I have found that the lens wont fit my Pentax K5.

I found a conversion kit from the UK, but the price was around $110  plus shipping.

The other conversions I found on line are for Leica lenses. There is another possibility on fleebay: Olympus OM lens to Micro 4/3 m4/3 for E-P1 E-P2, for about $15.

I guess I'm camera lens illiterate. :o

I do have some lenses that I can take apart if I need to make a usable mount. But when it comes to drilling and tapping holes, most of the stuff I have are for Big holes and taps about 3/8" or larger.

Any suggestions?

sigma 70-300DL Macro Super, focus problems

Manacho, I did what you suggested. I set up my K-5 on a tripod and had the Sigma 70-300 set at 70. Had it aimed at a contrasty image, a red and white sign board from a gas station. F-8, First I used live focus, then switched off the Live view and watched if the focus ring turned. It did, from behind the camera, it move a lot to the left. So I looked at the Fine adjustment setting and it was set at -10. I moved it to 0, and checked it again. it still moved but not as much. I moved the setting to +10 and checked it again. It moved slightly, vast difference then where it was. But still it moved. But I can't go any higher. I mentioned about a program that one of our members made or has that you can boost the fine focus settings past the -10/+10. I thought I had that program, but can't seem to find it.
If you know who that may be, I'd sure like to try it again with this lens.
Unfortunately taking the lens back to where I bought it is not an option. It's been longer than 10 months since I bought it. Would it be feasible to send it in to sigma and have then look at it or some other repair place? Do I need to send my K-5 with it?
Problem with buying something on fleebay or goodwill, is your taking a chance. My wife is sympathetic with me, bless her heart. She asked me the other day, "how many lenses do you need?" I said.. all of them! "oh okay".

Anybody have any other suggestions?

I bought a used Sigma 70-300DL Macro Super, but it looked like it had never been used. Clean, no buffs or scratches, lens clear etc. :) I use it on a Pentax K-5. But it seem almost every shot I take with it, they are oof. Very frustrating, concerning the reviews and rating for this lens.

I have been using the AF and the live view, the picture looks sharp everytime. Even live view on manual focus, looks sharp. Using the eyepiece or the screen same results. Now I will say that my eyes are not what they used to be, but even with my glasses I should end up with more that what I've been getting. When I up load the pictures to the computer and look at them, so many are just plain out of Focus. I swear that they were in focus at time of shot. :(

I have tried shooting at smaller Fstops and faster shutter speeds. It doesn't matter, pictures still are out of focus. It is hard to tell if it is focusing short or long. The K-5 has the ability to adjust the focus in camera. I've done that both ways up and down, didn't help. Somewhere on the forum, there is a program that you can boost the adjustments 90 plus both ways, I even tried that and that didn't seem to do much.

I've tried shoot on manual, even then it seems to come out oof. I can't believe that I just bought a lemon. There isn't any marks where someone may of dropped it. I just don't know. I have shot 100's of images through this lens.

My other lenses I don't have any problems with them. Not like this. I use a tripod almost all the time, its sturdy and heavy. Plus I hang something from the center under neath just to help. I'm almost always using the 2 second delay for each shot. I have a UV lens and a C-PL with a hood. I think I'm doing everything right.

So my question is, what do I do? I'm not ready for a float test.. yet. :o

Yes, switching it to M mode, works fine.

 I just picked up my camera and discovered that it has an Aperture ring.... who would of thought :o And guess what I just found... Auto mode, huh, I locked it in to "A" on the aperture and now everything works like it suppose to. The TV, SV, AV, TAV it all works. Wow that was a relief!!! The ring is small, I didn't even see it when I was looking over the lens. Now I feel like a complete NOOB. :o

K-5 lens, Sigma DL 70-300, settings

I have a new Pentax K-5 and I just bought a used Sigma 70-300 1:4-5.6 DL Super macro lens for it. The camera is set up for auto metering and AF,S mode.

I put it on the camera and then turn it on, but I can only use it in AV mode. I have tried other modes as well, but the screen still shows that it is AV mode. I tried TV and SV mode and still shows AV on the LED Screen. I tried pushing the green button but that didn't do anything. I takes great pictures in AV mode, so I guess I can live with that. In my settings menu, on the fourth section (c) I have the option #27 set to "permitted" because I have a couple of Manual lenses. But I even tried with it set to "Prohibitive" and that didn't solve anything, so I just left it on permitted.

Is this a problem with this lens or is this all it will work in? I hope I didn't buy a lemon.

I wasn't able to try it out before I bought. I purchased it on line from an auction house.

When I first introduced myself, my budget was close to a Pentax K-r, but in the last day or two, some things have happened, and now my budget has increased. If I want, I can get the K-5. But what I need is help in deciding if this is the right decision or not. The K-r is a really good camera(from what I have read, I don't own one yet) but is the K-5 that much better for the cost? I plan to be more than just a hobbyist and living in the Northwest, we don't always have lots of dry weather. Which is one of the features the K-5 has that the K-r doesn't have, weather sealing. So can someone help me out here a little bit? I've gone to dpreviews and snapshot, the pro's and cons of each. I guess if I'm going to spend the extra money on the K-5, I just want to justify the cost.

Yikes, I have been bitten, and I don't even own a Pentax...Yet. I'm already scanning ebay for future lenses, and I almost tried to buy one yesterday. But my wife is calming me down, there will always be tomorrow... but but you don't understand, this lens, someone else got my lens! (she just rolled her eyes and patted me on the back) Ya gotta love her.
I do practice restraint and don't fly off and buy the first one that pops up.
The one on ebay was: PENTAX ASAHI JAPAN SUPER TAKUMAR 1:3.5/135 200MM W/CASE AND LENS HOOD.
I'm not sure if that was a good lens or a so so one. I'm still learning.
I have to get my camera first before I start accumulating lenses.
Thankyou RioRico for the link to buying a lens, that was great.

RioRico, thankyou for the clarifying the acronyms. As I mentioned above, I am, and very soon going to accire a Pentax K-r. There is someone in the classified area selling a Kr with lens options. I understand your thinking process of having more than one tool. I, in a former time was a carpenter and yes, I had several of every tool, shape and size. Some tools just felt better than other tools even though they were the same one.
The type of photography I am interested in is: wildlife, landscapes, macro or Micro and black and white. What is your web site on Ebay?
What should I look for in an old pentax lens? I know pawn shops have pentax lenses by the box full, most are really cheap.
Some how I feel a fever coming on, I hope my wife doesn't find out, she is a master at finding things.

Hello, my user name is Gander, but really my name is Jan.

I don't own a Pentax currently, but I am very interested in getting the K-r. I have done all kinds of research on it and believe I am making the right choice. I participate in several photo clubs in our area using a Panasonic Lumix camera. I think I have out grown it and ready to move up. Way back in the 70's, back in my High school days, I was on the year book staff as a photographer. My camera back then was a Pentax, my first love. My club leader is Pro-Nikon, when I told him I was going to buy a Pentax, he about fell dead away. Another good friend uses exclusively Canon, they about fainted when I told them I was going with Pentax. But after the they both got their breath back, and I showed them the stats on the K-r, they were both interested and excited that I'm going to buy a great camera. I look forward to being a regular poster here on the forums.
