what was the keeper / trash ratio in respect of the focus was good or bad?
i mean, 7 images out of 70 (0.1) is a bad ratio, 7 images out of 7 (1.0) is optimum.
thanks,
tx

hi,
as an owner of the o-fc1 wifi card: there is a linux on it, some functions are build-in the busybox command compilation, both components are GNU GPL licensed. where can we get the modified source code and will they accept source code patches?

p.s.: what's the name of the FF?

hi & welcome to the board.
you have a very fine lens which is completely manual. therefor you need to enable "Using the Aperture Ring" in the C4 menu (page 83 in the english manual).

the original is very dull, you can imagine. foggy landscape in the early morning. there was not very much structure and color in the sky, the sky was almost grey. it was not bad but now the tree really pops out in front of the sky.
as a linux user i used darktable and applied levels, highlighted shadows, increased the colour saturation and softened it a bit. and yes, a bit of parametric denoise as well.
thanks for your critique. i always try to avoid obviousness of the post production. but most of the time i'm also concerned if post production is really needed and why didn't the perfect photo come out of the camera. i always think it's my fault and others have more skills in taking nice pictures in this situations while i need to PP the images.

hi,
cool. a darktable user! why do you need shotwell? there a plenty B/W filters for darktable as well.
i like the image. the eyes are key subject. the face also is in a good contrast to the background.
but that's all a matter of taste.

hello goosey,
well, the visual motif is quite appealing. the composition could be more strict. but i really don't like the halo's surrounding the pier. thats a short critique, sorry for that.

hi,
at the pentax download pages you can find an update for the flucard O-FC1: Latest K-3 Firmware Update : Software Downloads | RICOH IMAGING
release date is some days ago but i didn't recognized any mention here in the forum. thats why i thought i will sped a post. even if this update is more important to the new 645Z users, this might be interesting to all who like to know how to update the wireless card.
it also approves, that the card runs a linux on the card (executables are ELF 32-bit LSB executable, ARM, EABI4 version 1 (SYSV), statically linked, stripped) and this could encourage some brave people to hack on it a bit. there are several experiences about the stock flucard pro in the web available, like this one: Zach's Blog by zgiles

yesterday i provided a k-3 de-noise profile to the git master.
another nice feature is the focus identification in lighttable
mode (ctrl-Z on an image in lighttable).

i just created a k-3 denoise profile for darktable. it's actually in the public git repository. for those who compile their stuff themselves
so, i use darktable with my own profile for denoising, sometimes also other plugins, depends on the image. but darktable does it all.

hello,
since this thread is about older lenses i like to show some images taking with the K-3 in combination with the Pentax-F 1.7x AF Teleconverter with and the Pentax-M 85/2.0 and Pentax-M 200/4.0 old primes. the autofocus works well in this combination.
the images got taken on the graveyard cross the street of my flat and got just decent post processing with darktable (linux). some are high iso. i hope these will work as valid examples for the usage with old equipment in combination with the 1.7x TC.
greeting,
tx0h

if they do it right, they will have an embedded http server on the flu card. that will allow you to remote control not only with any standard browser via wireless, it also allows you to use the http url's and parameters for your own purposes.

can you/anyone else confirm that this flash has an effect on images when
using HSS (FP) and shutterspeeds shorter than 1/180 (1/160)?
when i set the flash to FP (HSS) and set the shutter to about 1/250s i can't
see any effect in the image. i cross checked with my K-5 and K10d. All
settings where the same on K-3, K-5 and K10d but only the K-5 and
K10d seem to get the HSS 'right'.
camera problem? flash problem? user problem?

thats true.
i switched it off yesterday. i think i can do it much better
on the desktop. it also delays the cam.
@JinDesu: thanks for the link. i'll try to find someone
who can 'heal' one of my test shots. the example in the
link didn't look so bad (the original) but i also can't
really guess the focal length, aperture and exposure.

well, a bit off-topic but hey:
i checked the dxo website but they don't support my
operating system. as you can read here,
i run darktable with linux myself and hope i will find
some ways to solve the problems with the softness,
somehow. do you know how dxo does it? maybe you
can show me some extreme examples croped before
and after dxo?
and you all say my sample of the lens behaves like it
should. it's not better or worse than i could expect?
then i will keep it. it's my first and only sealed lens.
thanks again,

hello,
thank you so much for the constructive comments.
i just like to show that i don't shot mosaics at flat walls all the time.
again, you can click the images and take the magnifier lens to
zoom in.
but i also like to explain that shooting this mosaic wall is one of
my tests with lenses, and i think it is a valid test.
my concerns about edge and corner sharpness are, that i get
limited in composing an image. with a lens which can't deliver
good quality on the edges and corners and is 'only' sharp
in the center, i need the subject in the center which may lead
to boring center subject images with less dynamic in the
image statement. please correct me on this so i can feel
more comfortable with this handicap.
sure, i mainly use manual prime lenses and this lens will
be one of the few AF zoom lenses i use. i choose it
because it covers a long range, is WR sealed and not
that big and heavy.
greetings,
tx0h

ok, that's all a bit off-topic, but you know what?
if i pay about 590US$ for a lens then i wouldn't
call it cheap and i would expect a decent quality.
it's even not a fast lens. if it would hold F3.5
or better over the whole range i would call it a
cheap lens.
i just like to know if this specific lens is in the
'normal' range or if it is worse then normal.
in fact, i don't think it's a better version :-(
oh, and i made the same images with F8.0 but
wouldn't say they got *much* better then open.

tx0h

hello,
i've got a new 18-135 and now i have some IQ questions.
i know that the 18-135 are known for it's issues but i also
ask myself if this particular lens is in the 'normal' range or
is it worse than normal.
therefor i uploaded three images to the forum and linked
them to the original sized, out of cam images at picaza.
where you can zoom in to a 100% view.
my concerns are the edges and especial the corners.
please click on the images and judge the original sized
images at picaza (use the magnifier lens).
here are the linked test images:
135mm/F5.6
18mm/3.5
135mm/5.6
i really hope for some comments of people who've some
experience with this lens.
thank you,
tx0h

it's not only tethering whats needed,
i just like to have a documented API,
which includes an interface for tethering.
but if this is just for tethering you can
count me in anyway. +1 |
