Ok, I see, I agree, that was my understanding as well. I'm not keeping track of who I'm disagreeing with, sorry.

The part you quoted says the new rules would NOT apply, so I don't understand what you are saying. Sounds like they are grandfathering in those products, which is what I've seen reported elsewhere.

Not what I've read. You're saying all products made before this ruling sitting on shelves have to be thrown out? And also no new runs of them can be made (without changes)? Both are allowed according to what I've read, but could be wrong. Seems crazy though.

Existing products can continue to be sold as long as they don't change them otherwise.

You'll get degradation for sure. If you must use a TC, a decent quality 2x will work better than stacking 1.4xs -- probably. If you're going to be stacking a bunch of images you might get away with it but just cropping a wider image will likely work just as well.

That feature is to help you focus, it doesn't change the actual aspect ratio of the taken image. There is no "digital zoom" like you might find on a phone. (All that does is crop anyway, so you aren't losing anything by not having it other than having to crop yourself later.) There are a couple of different aspect ratios you can choose from on the Q7 (but not while you're taking the shot) -- you can choose 4:3 vs 16:9 vs 1:1, but again, they are just cropping so unless you've got a special reason to not use the native 4:3 (the others do make smaller sized images) I'd just leave it at full resolution.

Shots have to cut together and different lenses are used for different shots and those different lenses have different levels of light transmission, so if you equalize the true exposure with t-stops, its much less headache in post.

Always install the newest version -- there is always stuff in there that isn't listed (small bug fixes, etc). But use the one for the right camera!

Some of the lenses have their own firmware updates, so check on those also for whatever lenses you get for it.

...and because it is a simple screw-on hood, it is easily replaced by any cheap third-party hood with the correct diameter threads. Fantastic lens.

I don't have this lens so I don't know the typical behavior, but it is a macro lens. So while it ought to have a flat field, it is designed to be at its best with closeup pictures, not something like this. (When designing such a less, making a compromise of edge sharpness at infinity is just the sort of thing they'd do to maximize sharpness for macros.) What do the edges look like when you are focused on something only a foot away or less? And if you do stop it down more for faraway pictures, does it improve?

I think it will take Adobe a long time to get there, but with this tech it is hard to say -- it may become so easy anybody can do it. But for adobe it is just another feature, for Topaz it is all they do, and they've gotten very good at it.

It seems ok at getting rid of color noise, but not the actual grain of the noise. It definitely doesn't compare to Topaz.

The 8-16 shouldn't need it just to work. (The K-5 itself might though, can't remember.)
And yes -- you need to test an SDM/HSM lens (or this lens on a different body), i.e. not screw-drive lenses.

Also, maybe check the firmware on the K-5. If it has never been updated, there is a chance it could be that.

It should work -- I used to use that combo. You won't get the lower (widest) focal lengths showing up in the EXIF -- that's a known issue. (There are some workarounds to set it later.) However, sounds like you've got a bigger problem, it shouldn't be going crazy. I did also buy a used one that I had to send back to the seller -- can't remember the issue but maybe an inherent problem has started to manifest itself as these lenses age. But since it has happened twice, you first need to verify that it isn't your body -- try another SDM (or preferably Sigma HSM) lens and see if that works on your body, or try the Sigma on a different body.

Some older A lenses (like older Sigmas or Vivitars -- probably wouldn't happen with a Samyang/Rokinon) could get an invisible layer of oxidation or something on the main contact -- I fixed a couple of them just by scratching up the contact with a key to restore conductivity. (Just cleaning it didn't work -- have to essentially exfoliate the top layer of the contact).

Shouldn't need that on 'A' setting -- that setting is set to "no" by default to keep you from using lenses off the 'A' setting.
As far as ideas, try to wiggle the ring while still in A (obviously it should be locked on A, but just give it some play) and see if the F display comes to life ever, even just for a second. (If not try holding down the button and going in and out of A and see if anything happens.) If it is really completely dead, I'd just send it back. If it will display sometimes, probably some hope a minor repair/adjustment could get it working reliably.

Some lenses just meter differently as well. Why not just dial-in some EV compensation? That's what it's for. 1 1/2 stops seems like a lot, but it isn't unusual that I have to set some lenses to -.7 EV. And if you're center metering and the center is darker than the bright spots of course they are going to get blown out and you need to adjust for that. (Not really lens-specific though unless it is just a certain type of shot you are only taking with that lens.) You'll also get wonky exposure if you are locking-in exposure settings and then zooming in/out before hitting the shutter.

If you do a before and after with the same lens under the same conditions you'll see the difference (how much depends on how yellow it was, but yeah it isn't going to be radical, but it is noticeable). If you like them yellow, sure leave them yellow. But in this day and age where we can adjust colors to our hearts content after the fact (as well as softening, etc), I'd rather have the ability to have the greater sharpness and contrast (as designed), especially when shooting at large apertures where it is going to be a bit softer anyway.

The only real effect of using a yellowed lens on digital is that it is less sharp than if you de-yellowed it. (Yes, that makes it a bit sharper -- gets the wavelengths matched up again.) Not sure why you'd want it to remain yellow.
