This could have been an early Marc Newson design effort that was ultimately perfected in the production K-01.

How to push the Pentax Full-Frame Idea and get that FF out faster...

Adam,

I'm not saying that it wouldn't be nice for the Pentax image, if they we're to come out with a full-frame DSLR. In view of the fact that they are searching for ways to become a more viable
market option (price restructering with the hope that this will lead to Pentax products being stocked by the avearge camera store), a FF could become a reality in the not-too-distant future.
Whether it makes economic sense is open to speculation. While a FF might be good for the corporate image, is it a viable option? With the current state of development of the APS-C sensor,
is a FF really needed? Contributors to this and similar forums can talk until they're blue in the face about how they want Pentax to come out with a FF. I would venture to say that the numbers
of those making the transition might be relatively small. I for one, don't anticipate ever making the move. I've been a Pentax owner since the summer of 1970 when I purchased the Spotmatic
in the Exchange aboard the carrier Saratoga (my only other option at the time was the Nikon F). I've owned nothing but Pentax cameras since then. I've purchased Pentax point & shoots for
my wife and two granddaughters. The oldest granddaughter, 14 years old, recently became a proud owner of my first DSLR, the ist D. I now have the K-10D and K-5, along with a total of
seven lenses for them. With the money invested in my present equipment, at my age (I'm nearly 72), I couldn't justify essentially starting over purchasing FF equipment. In any case, I think
the need for a FF camera that many voice, is a perceived need, more than a real one. Nevertheless, if Pentax thinks that financially they can pull it off, I say go for it. I'll remain happy with my
APS-C equipment.

Jolo32,

On the "home page" of this, the Pentax Camera Accessories section, scroll down to the letter
from Lepy titled "Non-Pentax flash on K10D." Click on it and then scroll down to letter #7 and
you'll see my letter to him, in part relating to my personal experience in using the AF-330 FTZ
on my K10D.

Cheers,
Al

Slide Film Processing and mounting

Jeff,

I was curious about processing slide film, so I checked the PhotoWorks.com web site.
They process E-6 & K-14 (Kodachrome) slides only; no prints, scanning services or pictures on
disk.
After going to PhotoWorks.com, click on Help in top right corner and then in the search box,
just type in "slide processing" and you'll come up with all of the info.
They ship to all over the world.

Cheers,
Al

Slide Film Processing and mounting

Jeff,

In the late 50s to early 60s, my 35mm shooting was with b/w film processed into prints.
Around 1962 I made the switch to Ektachrome and slides, still using my original 35mm camera,
a Petri, the model of which I no longer remember.
When I made the move to Ektachrome slides, I sent all of my film to the then Seattle
Filmworks in Seattle, WA. Excellent service.
In 1970, I became a Pentax devotee when I purchased my first Pentax, the Spotmatic.
This served me well, but was finally replaced by the ZX-7 about 6-7 years ago.
In recent years, in an effort to have a company name more in keeping with photo trends,
they changed their name to PhotoWorks.com.
At the time, Seattle Filmworks was offering their own replacement 35mm film. It was
modified (I think professional 16mm, or whatever the industry uses) professional movie film
and required special processing that your typical 1-hr mini-lab doesn't provide. A few years
ago (the now PhotoWorks.com) they switched to regular C-41 process 35mm made in Italy.
Although not a professional grade film, it is a good all-around general purpose film. The
last time I bought film from them was about 18 months ago (for one of my granddaughters).
They were offering only ISOs 200 and 400 in both 24 and 36 exposure rolls. The price was
the same for both exposures. I believe they offer a 4-pack and a 10-pack. I ordered a 10-
pack of 36 exposure at a cost of $12.95 postpaid!
To have slides made, you don't have to exclusively use Ektachrome. Any print film will do.
I always used their film and for many years only had slides produced. In later years, I got
prints in addition to the slides.
When you send your film to them, if you provide them with your email address, they will
notify you when your photos are ready to be viewed (before they're printed). You can
select only the ones you want printed. If you're doing slides, I don't know if you can select
certain images, or if you have to do the entire roll.
At one time, they used to list the availability of film on their website, PhotoWorks.com,
but now you have to get their 800 number from the web site and then call them to see what
is available.
Another nice service is they'll archive your photos on their computer where you can access
them at any time.
You can also upload digitals images to them for processing. Their website is worth having
a look at.
I would continue to utilize them for my digital needs but for the fact that I'm a Fuji-trained
mini-lab technician now working parttime in a Target store 1-hr mini-lab. I'm twice-retired and
look at my current "career" a most-enjoyable hobby and not work! In any event, I do all of
my digital photo processing at work where I receive the typical employee discount.
You might check with PhotoWorks.com and see if they have a mail-in depository in the
Vancouver, BC area. I don't know how much of a hassle it would be to mail your film to them
in Seattle.

Cheers,
Al

Non-Pentax flash on K10D

Lepy,
The base of your old flash would have to fit the hot shoe of your K10D. Even if you're able to
mount it on the K10D, I doubt if the results would be to your satisfaction. An excellent source
for information on the topic of flashes for the K10D is the Magic Lantern Guide book for the
K10D. In the section of the book covering flash photography, the author states that older
Pentax flash units designed for the 35mm cameras will only work with the K10D in a limited
capacity. The camera will trigger the flash, but will not necessarily provide a correct exposure.
Before I acquired this book and read the information, I had tried to use my Pentax AF330FTZ
on my K10D. At longer distances, the results were generally acceptable. At medium to closer
distances, the flash generally "washed-out" or over-exposed the subject. Quite recently, I
was considering the purchase of either the Pentax AF540FGZ or one of two Metz models. I
have finally decided to go with the Metz 58 AF-1 PS. Like the 540, the 58 AF-1 PS has tilt/
bounce capability, but the Metz also has a secondary flash below the power head flash, that
can be used for fill-flash when the power head is in the tilt mode. The Magic Lantern Guide on
the K10D lists for $19.95 USD, but I got mine from Amazon.com for $13.95 plus shipping. The
Pentax owner's handbooks cover all facets of camera operation, but the Magic Lantern Guides
go a step further and tell you what you can expect to ACHIEVE with the various controls on
the camera. I also have one for my older ZX-7 film camera. I highly recommend them.
