I know this is a long time after you posted this, but it was about the same day we had a wood duck baby wander into our yard by himself. No sign of family and he was alone. We adopted him and it changed our lives.
We raise wood ducks now, and they are an incredibly beautiful animal. Thanks for the picture!

This lens is so fantastic. It is the limited lens that was not. I have the F series one and it is sharp and dreamy. On FF it looks similar to FA 77 does on APS-C.

I think I understand you now. You are essentially saying this isn't the kind of thing that should require some work. If I understand you properly, I will readily admit that I don't know any 9 year old electronics that don't need some work...

I’m confused… Pentax has released 15-30, 24-70, 70-200 2.8, 70-210 4, 28-105 since 2015 or 2016.
They have released DFA primes: 21 Limited, 50, and 85. Those are all full frame lenses they have released since the k1 (or released right before). And tell me what company makes primes better than those 3? Like really?
11-18, 16-50 for APS-C.
Pentax has a far more deliberate plan than they did previously. When they release a new camera body it out performs everything else. The K3III has vastly improved AF and narrowed the gap with Canon and Nikon. When they released the KP is was a pure masterpiece and was far superior on ISO levels and using pixel shift. The K1, the 645Z, the k70 (for budget line).
The whole camera industry is trying (or has successfully) mimic the pixel shift. We may disagree at the speed of Pentax’s model, but there is nothing I’ve just posted that is untrue.

Maybe the plan isn’t to get products out to market as soon as possible. Maybe there is a deliberate process that considers a longer period of time of accomplishing newer products. As we saw they have slowed WAY down on DSLR production because of market analysis. I’m currently shooting with a K1 and have zero issues with it. I would rather have the company produce slowly and deliberately instead of rush and fail because of QC (like SDM issues on 16-50 and 50-135). They have a tiny market share and they have to hit on their products to stay in the game. I think the 70-300 needs to distinguish itself from other products available and meet the demands of the new sensors. But let’s be honest - their base zoom lenses have been top notch (newer), 55-300, 16-85, 28-105, 20-40. I expect them to do the same with this. Slowly and deliberately.

I bought both the FA 31, 77, and Sigma 150-500 last night from them. It has my payment pending. Probably will have to call when they open on Monday or Tuesday.
Thanks OP for heads up!

I really like what I saw from the M20 F4 and owners seem to like it. I picked my k20 up off the auction site in nearly perfect condition. The M20s go for about the same price I paid for the K. Can’t wait to see what I can do with it!

Thanks for sharing everyone. He definitely could cut the tensions in conversations. I always felt like if you had a problem he had a squirrel picture for it.
I have black walnut trees in my yard so I have plenty of squirrels to watch everyday. It’s funny to watch their tail start swinging when they are up to something. They are very precise when eating walnuts, how they spin the shell as they crack it. They will even throw shells at my girls if they are near the trees they are in. Squirrels are as mischievous as they look.
My favorite scene in Sword and the Stone is when they turn into squirrels.

Bro, they just released a brand new 50, 85, and 21 for FF. These were all made at the highest quality and to compete with the absolute best in the FF industry. If they want out of FF they are schizophrenic.

Bruce - I've not used it, but people swear by its portrait abilities - the Pentax FA 135 2.8. They aren't common, that gives you the longer part of the group you are looking for, it is said to have good close focusing, and rendering is in the ball park of the limiteds. Ebay $300-350. That or the SMC K135 2.5 are on my short list. 135 is a hint long on APS-C, but it would probably be a gem on your K-1. Just food for thought. Otherwise, it is short for portrait work, but I'm very impressed with the image quality of the DA 50 1.8. I have the DA 55 1.4, but I think the DA 50 1.8 is really terrific. But you say you want something special - go with the Rok 85 or the FA 135 2.8. The Rok does portraits as well as nearly anything you can buy. The FA 135 gives you AF, a Pentax prime, and they are said to be terrific at portraits.

I've used the Auto Tak 85 1.8, the SMC Tak 85 1.9, SMC Tak 85 1.8, SMC K85 1.8, SMC M85 2 - And all of them have terrific focus smoothness. However, the Rok 85 held its own to all of them in portrait quality. Pick one up used for like $180 and if you don't like it, turn and sell it like you just rented it. I feel like image quality is at least as good as all of these. (they all have their strengths though).

I have the 120-400 non OS version of the Sigma. Great lens and sharp. However, getting past 250mm the SR for Pentax isn't very good.

Lightest of all the 70-200 zooms. It is still heavy, but worth it. I don't regret paying the full $769 for it.

I didn't mention the 70-200 2.8 because it wouldn't fit the bayonet because it is 10mm larger in diameter.

Hey everyone,
I know for many years and threads it has been discussed how frustrating it is with some hoods to replace at $50 a piece. I have a DA*16-50 and DA* 50-135 and neither of them had hoods when I purchased. I could never justify the cost of the hoods so I searched. I'm not a huge fan of spending 8 bucks on a rubber three stage hood on a star lens. And I get it - your best equipment should bring top dollar for your accessories, makes sense. I tried a screw on "bayonet" hood for my 16-50 and it vignetted not because of the length of the hood itself, but because the screw on mount (to make the new bayonet) went too far out and was shown on the edges of the lens in pictures.
So, I just did simple math and looked at youtube videos on Canon lenses to see what their bayonet's looked like compared to Pentax. The videos didn't get me there, but I figured I would spend 5 bucks on a Canon 17-55 (EW-83J) - 77MM hood from a brand called MOVO on Amazon. So shipped (2 day) cost me $5.30. It came, and low and behold, the bayonet mounting is incredibly similar between the two, and quite frankly, the hood is pretty darn similar to Pentax's aside from the slot that allows CPL adjustment.
The mounting was a little tight, but the hood (MOVO EW-83J) is actually almost as good as the stock Pentax hood as far as quality. Amazon.com : Movo Photo EW-83J Lens Hood for Canon EF 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens with 2X Spirit Level & Microfiber Lens Cloth : Camera Lens Hoods : Camera & Photo
The DA 50-135 was a little harder because it is a "longer" hood for a bayonet mount at 67MM. The only thing I could find that was close was the Canon 70-200 F4 67MM. It is a full frame lens and the APSC match is really in that 50-135 range, so I figured if I had to shave anything it would be just a tiny bit. It came, and this one mounts pretty easily (there is just a little play, but it is locked and won't fall off). No vignetting at all, and I bet that it is really close to the same length as the stock Pentax 50-135 hood. Only downfall of this one - it is a cone, not a flower petal hood. There is a company that sells a white one (because the 70-200 F/4L Canon is white and black) that is a flower shaped, but I didn't want white! So I chose this one (MOVO ET-74) and it is pretty good. I immediately saw a big difference with focusing when the hood was on. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GI2JIV6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00
So for less than $11 I got "matching" hoods for my DA* that fit well and can be reversed like original bayonets. And they are pretty good quality (The ET 74 is solid). So there you go, solved the mystery for years that people have been searching for.
Truth be told - I owed it to this forum, because I've learned so much from many of you. Just paying it forward.
