Adaptall 2 job-lot...any opinions?

Yeh, I actually had a little wander in the garden today and took a few quick close shots, came out nice and crisp, with great colour. I love this big zoom already! And a question Rico, what do you mean exactly about modding the FD adapters? I'm a big fan of doing such things, but would I not need a sacrificial pentax lense? Would be pretty great if I could somehow put together a homemade PK/A adapter...

So, I've got the lenses and had a play - so far, pretty impressed! Not in the best condition, and one of the aperture adjusters is split at one point so twisting it runs smooth rather than through a sequence of clicks...still works though. The 80-200 seems to give pretty good image quality, which suprised me considering they go for so cheap on ebay. But yeh, it seems like it could work okay for macro shots...am I wrong in thinking this..?

Also, the lot came with 2 Canon FD Adaptall mounts. Any ideas if these are worth anything?

So I bought the lenses, 32 quid for the three. No adapters but I'd already bought one on ebay a week before in preparation ;o) I only paid 15 for it, its an original Tamron model but it didnt actually say exactly what version it was...fingers crossed for the PK-A! I'll be getting hold of all the stuff in a week, so I'll get back to you on condition and performance. Should be fun!

Evening all

I'm thinking of buying a lot of 3 Adaptall 2 lenses: 80-210/3.8-4, 35-135/3.5-4.5, and a 35-70/3.5-4.5. Alot of old manual zooms. Would really like to get my hands on em and have a play, but has anyone else used them, and have any opinions on how good/bad the optics, build quality etc are?

Anything would be good! Also, I plan on paying around 30-40 pounds for all three...that might influence the decision :p

Cheers!!

Yeh, all the night shots I took, including those shown were shot very low ISO, and all fully manual. I actually enjoy going fully manual, so I think I'll avoid auto-modes. It's less fun if you let the camera so all of the work...

Yeh, I was going for the over-exposed shot. Later realised that all the photos I shot that day were at ISO 3200 though, the majority are really too grainy. Thought that one had a nice feel to it though.

As for number 4, thanks! I was amazed at the road detail actually, considering it was on a 30sec shutter speed. I'm rather impressed with this K-7 so far...

Hi all

I've recently move to Pentax DSLR photography, away from Canon 35mm SLR. My first shots with the K7. Let me know what you think, anywhere you think I should look to improve. Thanks, and enjoy!

Affordable macro shots?

So, after a bit of research I rekon I'm going to invest in an old wide angle 28mm or 50mm, depending on the best deal, at F1.8 or so, as I hear these tend to be good fast lenses for night shots. Then I can just pick up a reverse mount adapter for a few quid and my fast 50 will double as a macro.

I shant take the credit for this ofcourse, the inspiration came from the various posts and blogs mentioned above. Considering I knew nothing about all this yesterday morning, I think you've all done yourselves proud! Cheers to all

Pretty sweet looking setup you've got yourself there. Have you attempted any out 'n' about shots with it? i.e. involving hoiking all the kit about with you? Some serious magnifigation though, very impressive!

joe.penn, my budget would pretty much be the cheapest effective option. Ofcourse, I'm not expecting amazing results having given such a comment, but would just like to get some good close shots.

In that respect, I think RioRico has given a pretty perfect answer! I didn't realise there were so many low-cost options. Had a quick google on using the teleconverter tubes as extensions, can't seem to find anything...but I'll read the above article for some more inspiration.

Thanks for the help!

Looking for macro-closeness, but really cannot afford splashing out on a lens (unless there is an uber affordable lens option....suggestions?). I see there are glass attachments out there, for capping the lens to give a magnified effect. Has anyone experience in these? I fear they would be a bit crappy but I'm hoping my intuitions are wrong on this occasion.

I'm (soon to be) shooting with a K7, with my Pentax 18-55 AL2 lens.

Any help is much appreciated!

Yeh, I've read that the AL 2 was a better/less plastic build than its predecessor. But really, I have nothing to compare the al 2 with. I guess Ill get myself a camera and yest out the lens for a while before investing in anything else.

Thanks for all the help though. Great to know there are so many enthusiastic and helpful folks out there.

Cheers

Using Pentax 18-55 AL II with K7

Hi all

A soon-to-be pentax user looking to get a K20D, but also considering a K7 if the price is right. Already inherited a Pentax 18-55 AL II lens, will this do the job with a K7 or would I need to invest in a 'meatier' lens so to speak?

Any advice is well received!
