Counterfeit old Pentax lenses? SMC 18/f2.8

I live in Phoenix and saw the CL listing. I had no clue that was a counterfeit. It was a lot of money so I would not have looked at it. Had no idea I needed to be on the lookout for counterfeit lenses. Counterfeit Cuban cigars, Rolex's etc.....now lenses....wow

They actually wrote used lens on the declaration. I thought the used part was just to get it in without duty. So imagine my surprise when I find a lens in a bag with only the front cap on it. Not impressed.

So I did not do any research before purchasing from rugift.com.

Ordered a Jupiter 9.

Jupiter-9 85mm F2 Lens for M42 / Rugift.com

No where does it say the lens is used or vintage so I thought I was getting a deal on a NOS lens.

I picked up a MIR 20 3.5/20 for $126 shipped from Lomography, its normally about a $200+ lens but prices vary drastically by seller but obviously there are deals to be had.

I could have bought off ebay if I wanted a used lens.

Just a FYI, with this seller do not make assumptions. Also seller has poor communication as I asked for the tracking number and never heard anything back. Hopefully I can save someone else the hassle.....

Thanks guys. I am looking forward to being pain and med free. I have a few Russian lenses on the way I am looking forward to using. A MIR 20 "Fish eye", a Jupiter 9 from 1957 that looks like it is new, a few Hellos 44 58mm, one of which is a old 13 blade that is restored and looks new. Pretty excited for them to get here......plan on going to Sedona soon and taking a lot of pics.

In late 2011 I picked up a K5 and various lenses......was having fun with the camera when I blew out my back and the meds left me pretty goofy and not real good with the camera anymore. I will be going in for nerve ablasion next week and hope I can get off the meds. Going back to school at ASU and plan on taking some photography courses. So I am back and looking forward to picking up where I left off.

I picked this lens up last week, forgot to check aperture function and of course its stuck. Picked up a can of brake parts cleaner and the screw drivers last night. I have this torn down and did not lose the ball bearing or any other screw I read about. I have it torn down to the point where I cant see any more screw to remove. I think I am close to the aperture ring but cant get it torn down further anyone know where I need to go from here? I will say this is easier than watch repair. They are a real pain, and a lot cleaner than Harleys. But I cant find any manuals on line and dont really want to bother a repair shop just yet. I will post a pic of where I am at in a sec.

After the product ships appx 15 days later the points will be applied to your acount, so it is not a direct 10% off this purches its good for your next one, lens etc. Must click on the link on top toward the right, 10x rakuten points, then click I think again another link they show in the middle of the page. Must check out through buy.com, google check out or amazon etc wont apply the points. I think that is all the fine print. I have another week to get $70 in credit. You can use the credit I think on anything, not much in the way of redtrictios, a pretty good deal I think

Got it on the CIF, will get the pentax adaptor. Picked up the sigma 24mm superwide II for $25, and it looks new, its not but has been taken care of. I also grabbed the Sigma 28-70 UC Zoom multi coated, 3.5-4.5. It was $35, is auto focus, looks like a cheaper lens then the superwide. Will the 28-70 be a good alternative to the kit lens? or is the 18-55 kit lens a lot better? Thanks again for answering my questions.

Prodigital2000 is Carmens Fotosource out of Toronto, I am not worried about this. They are a authorized dealer and stated send to them and they take care of it in the 2nd yr. So either Amex or PD2K and I am covered on a product I should not have any problems with anyway

I ordered through buy.com, fulfilled by PD2K. PD2K told me I have a 1 yr international warranty, and if there is a problem in the 2nd yr to send back to them and they will handle through Pentax Canada. I bought with Amex, does this mean Amex will not add the extra yr of warranty on it?

A manual lens or adapter that is shiny metal will safely short all the pins. A lens or adapter with a painted base won't short the necessary pin. Thus the need for paint-scraping or metal tape. CIF can make many manual lenses more usable. DSLRS FOR DUMMIES might not mention catch-in-focus or trap-focus. Who's the dummy then? ;)

I was going to get the Pentax made adaptor, read not to buy a aftermarket version, its all metal, so I will be good to go then. Thank you for explaining. Will be interesting to see how much is in the book as these forums are quite informative. Again thank you for taking the time to help a NOOB.

I think the reasoning behind buying older lenses was discussed fairly well in above replies. But I decided to find what I have read are good optics for the money. Will pick up the kit lense next week. Anything more than that will require waiting til wifey has digested how much money was just spent on camera equipment LOL.

I picked up a screw mount Super-Takumar 1:1.4/50, looks really nice for a old lense, has a Hoya filter on it. 2, 50mm SMC Pentax M 1:2, both are perfect. A Sears 1:2.8 135 mm lens with Vivitar 2x tele converter, all K mounts and various filters. Picking up a Sigma 24mm 2.8 today.

K5 or Sony A77, or??

When I saw this post was not sure if it was a question I had asked and had forgot I asked (drinking too much beer and posting on forums LOL). I had this exact same question, Canon T3i, D60, 7D, Sony A65, A77 and K5. I read and read everything I could find. On paper the Sony specs were impressive. The reviews left a little to be desired. Once I found the K5 and read about it I knew I found my camera. Nikons, I just did not care for how they look. With Nikon and Canon having 90% of the market I thought if you are going to compete you need to do it better so I looked at the others. The K5 won out, and I like Canon products, the 60d was what I kept going back to. Monday my K5 shows up hopefully it lives up to expectations.

"But not on your K5", picked up some lenses today, passed on this deal as I found some others on CL. But the no old flashes on the K5 may have saved me. I think you should keep throwing that one out there to all the NOOBs. The guy selling the lenses had flashes as well. He would not have steered me wrong unless he just was'nt paying attention. When I mentioned the flashes not being for the K5 he said yes they are not. But if I had not said anything he may not have thought about it. This is a very NOOB friendly forum. I do a lot of searches before asking questions but if you dont even know the question to ask............anyway thank all of you for taking the time to steer me in the right direction.

Picked up the screw mount Super-Takumar 1:1.4/50, looks really nice for a old lense, couple specs of dust inside I hope does not affect it, seller said it did not. That was $25, has a Hoya filter on it.

For another $40 through a different seller got 2 50mm SMC Pentax M 1:2, both are perfect. A Sears 1:2.8 135 mm lens with Vivitar 2x tele converter, all K mounts. A Nikon filter polar filter, Quantaray filter, another Hoya, a Vivitar, Hoya Skylight 1B, a Tiffin +2 and Tiffin +4, a leather filter case, a lens case and a camera backpack with various padded compartments made by Lowepro. I think this will keep me busy for a while. I will pick up the Sigma 24 2.8 and next week get the kit lense. Thanks so much for the help. I am not really sure what you were talking about re: shorting the terminals, but have the DSLR guide for dummies coming and hopefully will get me going good. thanks again for the help.

Why isn't Pentax more popular?

I called a local shop to check on Pentax. I was told "Pentax does'nt take care of us". I googled that exact phrase and found out that Pentax demands payment upfront as others have said already. All it comes down to is money in the end. What a surprise. I as a 1st time DSLR owner found Pentax. They seemed to have the best bang for the buck, so thats who I went with. I will say thought that after reading about the Pentax "exclusivity" that is also appealing. Why get a Rolex when you can get a Patek Philippe? Patron is another example, Casa Noble is much better. I bought a Pentax because all the review ranked it the better camera in my opinion and I really thought going into this I would get a Canon 60D.

Another K5 buyer, new to DSLR, Pentax won out. Spent a lot of time, looked into the T3i, the 60D, the 7D and Alpha 65 and 77. The K5 had it together. Its been a challenge though, wifey spazzed out and cancelled the 1st order and said nothing over $1k. So it took a bit and the Buy.come $1039 and 7% back Rakuten points got it done through prodigital200. Has a 1 yr international warranty or if a problem in the 2nd yr send it back to them and they will take care of it through Pentax Canada. I bought with Amex so got the warranty doubled already, Am good for 2 yrs. Going to be a bit of a wait til the K5 shoes up Monday!!!!!

Thank you for the reply. I actually looked to try to find out if the lens was a "deal". I dont really understand all the camera nomenclature and its a bit confusing. I am now spending more time before pulling the trigger. I will be picking up a Sigma 24mm 2.8 super wide II for $25 and a 50mm 1.4 Asahi Pentax for $25. I will be getting the 18-55 kit lense soon while I figure out how to work the camera. I am wondering is there a difference in value on the Sigma?, it show appx $100 but I see a manual and auto version being discussed in the same lens discussion.
