Yes, that's why they took the update offline.

600mm and 10 seconds, superb. When they get the interval shooting fixed it'll save a lot of faffing and we'll be able to shoot a handful of images at a time :)

That's correct, however, when I use the Sigma Art 35mm (a FF lens I believe) the camera is "seeing" it as APSC. It displays APSC on the live view screen when an APSC lens is attached and nothing when a FF lens is attached. With the Art 35 it displays APSC and no matter what I try, Type 3 and that lens produce trails, but it doesn't on the K3iii (APSC camera).

It works perfectly with my A 35mm f2.8 and on my A*200mm f4 macro.

Internal, the same as with the K3iii, sadly it doesn't work and now the update has been suspended due to this error and a few other minor issues. ---------- Post added 12-16-23 at 12:29 PM ----------
Pretty much, yes, but only single shots. You cannot use the internal interval shooting option. This has now been acknowledged by Ricoh and they have withdrawn the update.

Update! Update! Update!
It appears it does work (partially) I used an APSC DA*300 lens for testing in FF mode and this produced trails, tonight a fellow pentaxian, Ali Zendagui, showed me an image he had shot using a 200mm APSC lens with no trails. So I popped on the DA*300 and put the camera to FF, a one minute shot got trails, then I put it to Auto, APSC is displayed on the screen and it did one minute without trails. I then tested my DFA*70-200 in FF and got no trails. I then tested my Sigma Art and no matter where I set that I get varying length trails. Popped on the DA*55 in Auto and no trails.
So I have concluded that it only works with Pentax lenses and only in the mode they are meant to be.
Huge slice of humble pie for me.
The bad news is that regardless of the settings no data is saved when Astrotracer is used in conjunction with interval shooting.

Type 1 still works so hang in there until a patch is released. Type 3 on the K3iii is simply superb, so only a matter of time until a fix is found.

Be warned, the Astrotracer type 3 function does not work. I have used it at 35mm (1 minute) and 300mm (1 minute also 30 seconds) and unfortunately it produces trails. I have a vast amount of experience using the Astrotracer on K5iis, K3, 2 x K1iis and K3iii so know what I am doing. Type 3 on the K3iii can easily produce 1 minute images consistently at 300mm without trails but the K1ii with the update is producing trails. The sensor is not moving at the correct rate to prevent trails. Possibly not taking into account FF instead of APSC (only a guess)
Issues found so far with the update ...
1. It produces trails in single shots when using type 3 Astrotracer
2. If type 3 is used in conjunction with interval shooting no data is saved to the SD card
3. (A minor niggle) In normal shooting when using liveview the small arrow indicators on the top LCD screen that point to the card slot numbers do not stop flashing

While out tutoring a beginner a sudden gust of wind blew my tripod over with K3iii and Sigma Art 18-35 attached, luckily it landed face first and the lens hood took the hit.
Always, always, always use a hood! Luckily camera and lens are perfectly fine, but a new lens hood is on its way ... cheaper than a lens :D

This is simply lack of use, the capacitor has drained and needs a recharge. Put it on your camera, press and hold the AF button and after a while it will burst back to life, I do it regularly with my DA*55 and have in the past with both the DA*16-50 and DA*50-135. Not an issue and certainly not worth butchering a perfectly good lens over.

The best storm for more than 50 years. I was confined to the house as I had to print for the following day's market so couldn't get to a better location.

If you haven't used this function yet then you must give it a go. The Astrotracer is simply superb. It's ease of setup, portability and convenience simply cannot be overstated. This is a stacked image of 40 light shots and 10 darks each with the following settings 60 seconds @ ISO1600 f5.6 300mm. Kit Pentax K1ii & DA*300mm on a normal Benro tripod. No mount was used in the making of this image. Simply the easiest way to obtain high quality Astro images :) |

You have to be of an age to "get " the title, for those that don't look up "The Streak" by Ray Stevens on YouTube.
To ensure both flies are focussed I have taken two images one with each fly in focus and merged them. |
