Now I know what it means to have "too many" lenses (at least when travelling)

For two years I have only brought my 40XS on trips. To be honest I have had it on my K5 since I got it two years ago. I use it for everything, sometimes it's to narrow, then I use my feet or just skip the picture, I do not mind.

I have many lenses, mainly MF. But I often just like a quick one-hand snap of my kids when we are on the go. And the short focus travel is also great for video. I simply love this lens and when I see other turists with heavy zooms I grin.

Maybe it's a legacy from my film era days, with my Contax and 50mm.

I have had this lens for a year and it has been mounted on my K5 90% for the time. I enjoy the pancake. Sometimes it is to wide and sometimes to long. Maybe I should try the 20-40 Limited. I leave the cap at home, never use them.

Here is a sample.

How many 50mm lenses do you own? Favorite? What have you let go?

Two:

A 50mm 1.7 and Carl Zeiss 1.4/50

I like the A setting on the Pentax but the CZ takes the prize. I use Metal Hood 5 on it and it looks fantastic.

Love the edge of the leaf.

In a few days I will receive my 40XS. It is going with me on my trip to Sardinia next week. The XS on my K5 only... Can't wait to post some results on this thread.
Thank you for the inspiration.

Super Wide II, canīt handle f2.8

I am sure that there is a defect, not big though.
A very competent member of the forum ran some test and found the fault.

I would like to sell it, how will this fault affect the price? Big, small or non?

Thank all great feedback.

Maybe I was not clear enough. When the lens is on A setting I can select f2.8 and the lens is fully open. It is the exposure time in Av mode that does not change.
Hence "camera can't handle f2.8".

Somehow the camera does not recognize f2.8, there is no change between f2.8 and f3.5.

The contacts are clean but when I opened the lens to have a look (very carefully and gently) I discovered that a piece of clear tape was placed on the contact between the print plate side and lens! I took it off, but with no change of behavior from the lens.

Hi, I have a Sigma Super Wide II AF. The thing is that I have had this for some time and used it a bit. I would like to sell it and nearly did to a fellow member some time ago.

He kindly returned it with the message that the camera can't handle f2.8, it reads it though.

The lens is in pristine condition and it is a pity, that it is on the shelf most of the time.

Do any of you know of this problem and would it be interesting to have a lens with this problem?

Thanks

My daughter is very protective but she would love a fancy strap or bag. I have seen loads of accessories for the Q.

This looks like a great deal, but I don't think they will ship to Denmark. :-(

Yes I was thinking something like that, would suit her.

My thoughts, with the Q-K adapter she can have access to my K mount lenses and I to her Q. Sneaky father.

So now I am on the hunt for a Q and thanks for your tips.

My daughter has her 11th birthday in May and she really wants to pick up photography. So I was thinking giving her a Q and invite her to the Pentax family. I have seen them on the Marketplace here.

Is the Q suitable for her? And what lens would be good?

Thanks

You may be right but I am not interested in the rareness of lenses, only 35mm and A 35mm in particular, preferably f2.8.

The A 35mm f2.8 I saw here in the marketplace, was for sale for $160. Sadly it's been sold.

On the lens reviews there is no F 35mm and the FA is far more expensive than the A I'v been looking at.

You are both right, but I like MF and dislike plastic mount.

I recently bought the M35/2.8 and the focal length is perfect for me, coming from film with standard lens.

Lens Hood Question

My guess is, that your hood would work fine. But try to look when in 35 mm and keep a finger on the side of the hood, just to see how much clearance there is. (if you can see your fingertip through the viewfinder)

Yes, always use a hood, all my lenses have their own hood.

Thanks Old Bayrunner, I have formatted the card in the camera a while ago, but there was no difference. Maybe I should try the Software you suggest.
